I would say that most of Brentford's moneyball b team recruits would not qualify. Nor Vale's foreign legion.

Coaching is different. Top coaches, Anceloti, Guardian and Mourinho would seem to have no problem but some of the guys Watford brought in and some ex international such as Jaap Stam may have problems because they couldn't point to a record showing they were better than a coach the club could get from the UK.

It would be interesting to see the challenge if a top club wanted to appoint a top coach who had not won a lot but still has a great reputation... Nagelsmann for example.

For someone to come to our level? I just can't see it somehow. Crawley had an Italian who had a decent reputation as a coach but how could he prove he would be a better choice than, say, Russell Slade?

Copied and pasted from the Crawley fans forum.

Clubs now have to apply for a Governing Body Endorsement (gbe). Basically the fa has given the different leagues around the world a "standing". The higher the standing, the higher the points. Fair enough, a player would get more points for playing in the Bundersliga than playing in the Sudetenland Sunday League division 5. As an aside, they have to be playing not just in the squad.

International appearances also counts towards the points. Again a tiered system. A player will earn more points playing for Spain than they would for Samoa.

Some interesting players would not have made the gbe points total when they transferred to the UK including Riyad Marhez.

Top international stars will have no problems signing for UK clubs. In fact we may see more Brazilians as it will be easier to sign them. The place it will affect the most is the academies and the championship.

Watch for angry managers complaining they can't sign the next greatest thing from some far forsaken land because he doesn't have enough gbe points.

Interesting link but most of the details you will have to pay for.

Will Josh Wright join his brother Mark at Crawley?

I would say yes but we have a policy of signing younger players (Tony Craig aside) so a 30+ midfielder would have to bring something different to the club. I'm not sure Josh Wright does.

There again, I'm definitely not in the know and Yems has more football nous than me so I could be wrong.

Casey
Did anybody ask this? I really hope not because I like the idea of starting posts with a question like this and I might start doing it myself.

How many of Brentford's moneyball b team recruits or Vale's foreign legion under that Portuguese manager would have qualified?

Also I'd imagine it will be harder to bring in overseas managers/coaches as well?

A foreign player or coach in the EFL will become pretty rare you'd think? Good for local talent at least.
I wish they hadn’t qualified! Kjell Knopps was the only decent one of the lot, sadly he got an awful injury at Rochdale away which then got infected and nearly killed him. He was in the team photo the next season and looked awfully unwell.

The Portuguese lads were from their top flight, Benfica’s reserve keeper, Sporting Lisbon’s striker who never played for us and went home homesick and a couple from Vitoria Setabul.

Big Reg Cicilia was a Curaçao international. Looked gangly like Peter Crouch and was hilarious, he didn’t know what he was doing half the time which was great because neither did the strikers and he actually scored a few. Cult hero!

Two from Monaco, one who looked like a model )Amoros, girls loved him! De Freitas was actually alright in fairness.

Mbamba we signed from the Norway 3rd division, huge wages allegedly for the Zimbabwean... he was terrible, notable for an opening day injury time miss against Bradford when it was harder to miss than score the winner!

Then you had the Romanian Shalaj... barely played... but had played for Bucharest.

When we got the link up with Monaco we were expecting maybe Valery German... didn’t quite work that way!

In fairness they probably wouldn’t have been too bad if not all thrown in at the same time but most couldn’t do it on a cold Tuesday in Stoke. When Tavares signed who was the most high profile I thought he looked above the level (L1) the first few games when we were wining and at the top end of the division!

Carlisle already top, keeping hold of their better players and now bringing in league 1 quality strikers.

Quite rightly now 3/1 title favourites. Can see them running away with it tbh.

That's nice of you to say, yes we have the best team by miles and play the best football in the division, but im going to remain humble until we're mathematically champions, because anything can happen right?

Is it ok to ask a question then answer it yourself?

This is what politicians do all the time and if its OK for those scumbags I can do it too.

:gmc:

Casey

Ps. Hello Gregory posted that he wouldn't be surprised if he joined his brother.

Mark Wright (Towie fame etc) has signed for Crawley.

Kurtis Guthrie and krystain Pearce linked with vale. From what I know Guthrie did well at stevenage but not done much at Bradford. Pearce is a decent defender but his best years are probably behind him so may not be much better than what we already have in legge and Brisley.
Every Bantam fan would beg any club to take Guthrie off our hands. Panic buy with minutes to spare last January window. He wasnt even getting in a very poor Stevenage side when we bought him, their fans were laughing their socks at us, especially as we paid a fee for him. He is yet to score a goal for us, he is absolute dire. I believe its 15 months now since he scored a goal for anyone

Josh Wright confirmed at Crawley.

A little surprised by that. He definetly has talent but I just feel we need a more robust type of player. I also believed we had stopped signing the more experienced players and were trying to do our own little moneyball thing.

I see him as direct competition for Jack Powell and Nathan Ferguson as the ball playing midfielder in our team. It will be interesting to see which of them gets the spot.

Casey

Doesn't say what length of contract we've given him.

Vale fans wax lyrical over Guthrie largely over one performance when he tore as apart from Stevenage the year before last.

Personally I’d rather keep Robinson who has a decent scoring record and see if we get a tune if Pugh goes 2 up front.

I don’t believe strikers is a main issue for us.. it was the service, Pope can do a job but maybe too old as a lone striker now, Cullen if fit scores goals, Robinson is a 1 in 3 man in his career and Rodney is raw but looking a real big potential for us.

Maybe a young lad on loan? But bigger issues to sort... namely the back line and going forward the spine of our team that’s served us well in 900 years old so needs sorting for next year.

2 and a half years it says on your website.

As I said, good nack for popping up with goals and taking penalties and has decent long range passing.

But not the most dynamic and can drift out of games.

You have my deep sympathies. We had him for a season, the least interested footballer I've seen in a Bradford City shirt. Poseur who was only interested in keeping his hair nicely coiffed during a game

We’ve got an offer in for a winger with ‘blistering’ pace according to Bonner. Does Jorge Grant play wide with lots of pace?

If not I have no idea who it could be. Bonner also confirmed he is 100% confident Mullin won’t leave this window so maybe he’s signed a new deal because that’s a bit of an odd thing to say because league two players with 6 months left on his deal is always for sale.

no, and even if he did I’m not sure he’d fancy leaving the team currently top of league one to sign for us

Grant is not even close to a pacey winger.

I like Hiram, had a tendency to drift through some games not doing a lot but then on his day will just decide to win the game on his own.
