Yep, the name is on our forum a and from a reputable independent source on Twitter too. His CV looks impressive but I know nothing if him besides name. Bristol Rovers and Notts County fans may have opinions of him?
Always really liked Jeff when he was with us. We paid a six-figure fee for him just a year after he signed for Palace in the Championship and he came and performed consistently well for us in the top half of League One.

He wasn't a typical winger, despite playing on the left, as he had little pace and wasn't one to beat a man and get a cross in. What he did possess, though, was superb technical ability, a good left foot and a willingness to put a shift in defensively as well. He had a good goalscoring record with us and supplied more than his fair share of assists. Worth bearing in mind this was all 4+ years ago, but he's not exactly ancient now so I'd expect you to get a similar Jeff Hughes to the one we had.

Might suggest you've dropped any interest in Jake Howells (if indeed those rumours were ever accurate) if that one goes through.

i liked Jeff good footballer. Supposedly left to be closer to home and signed for Fleetwood. Hmm....

That and the pay cut we offered him :woot:But yes, decent player.

Thanks for that, sounds good to me. Money doesn't really sign pacey wingers permanently (we've had 1 or 2 on loan in his tenure but none permanently) so how you describe him fits Money's style.

I think we're a striker and maybe a back up centre back away from being ready to go now.

Sounds like a good signing and almost certainly would mean Jake isn't going, which is a shame from our point of view.

This was exactly the type of signing when I said when this all came up first time around that surely there are better left sided players out there on a free than Jake who would require money to be spent. Potentially dodged a not inexpensive bullet there.

Jesus.... where would you rather live Nottingham or Luton... It's proper hobson's choice that. I guess you just have to pray you get hit by a bus before the deadline day.

Yeah terrible in my part of Nottingham, voted in the top 10 areas of the country for quality of life for the last three years. Scary.

Anyway, CMS would be ridiculous, given the options we already have. I actually hope we don't sign him, and spend the money on a decent CB or RB instead. An unimaginable comment just a few short weeks ago.

Loved J Hughes for us, not sure where he is at now after his leg break, but with Roberts, Berry, Corr already in the bag, Cambridge are up there as having done the best business this summer.

Hughes did a good job for us as well (the deal nearly collapsed because he was very reluctant to come over here from Ireland so young (19/20)), although he came in originally as a full back. He eventually settled on the left wing and got his move to Palace but it didn't really go well for him there.

He was another one of KA's finds and came over to us along with Gareth McAuley (now WBA and NI Captain).

We rejected a bid for Jake on Monday. Perhaps Camb had it turned down and then went through with the Hughes deal? 2 + 2 and all that

Luton have turned down a bid for Jake Howells from an unnamed club, who has put in a transfer request. Fraser Franks seems set to depart shortly so that's another player off the wage bill.

No further news on Craig Mackail-Smith but Still is hopeful.

To try and give my unbias opinion.

I've been to Luton once and wouldn't go back ever again, unless it was to be promoted/relegated.

Nottingham is a great city that I've never had a bad night, bad day or bad experience in...(so far, touch wood).

Favourite away day County, Luton the joint worst.

(Inb4, Walsall's a shithole, fortunately I don't live their).

The noises from the reliable ITK guy and posters who were at the game last night are starting to sound a lot more positive about signing CMS now. West Side Vinny basically said flat out today that there's no chance of him signing for any other League Two club, and I've never known him to be wrong about this kind of thing so far. Fingers crossed.

I'm happy with that signing. Has a good CV and looks like he scores goals.

We originally spoke with Jeff Hughes six weeks ago, so I don't think it's anything to do with having a bid for Howells rejected.

I think what is clear from our signings this season is that Money will make us difficult to beat. We conceded way too many sloppy goals last season so with Jeff Hughes coming in, I think it's as much as his defensive game as well as his attacking.

I still think we need another right side defensive player on the books and then we're probably done. I also hope Craddock can earn himself a deal and return to his old days of banging the goals in at this level.

"David Fitzpatrick – 20-year-old winger who played two games for AFC Wimbledon last season" apparently having a trial at Crawley tonight. Except he signed a new contract for us a few weeks ago, played last night and is a rising star who won't be joining any sinking ships.

I think they might mean Southport's David Fitzpatrick but who knows? Tinpot doesn't begin to cover it.

Jeff Hughes was a good League One midfielder before he broke his leg, that's a class signing if he's still as good.

We've released Fraser Franks by mutual consent, sounds like he has a new club lined up. Not sure if there will be any takers at this level, I imagine he'll drop back down to the Conference.

Sounds like Jennison Myrie-Williams has departed from his trial with us. DC must have told him he won't be offered a deal and he is set to take one of the other offers he has on the table.

You still looking at Ajala? Really hope he gets a league club - deserves a chance.

We are indeed. He's featuring in our friendly tonight and I expect we'll make a decision on him afterwards.

He didn't set the world alight when he played against Sutton at the weekend but fingers crossed he can show what he's about this evening. I recall a few of your fans saying he was pacey without any sort of end product - fair assessment mate?

Not completely without end product but quite capable of beating his man then shanking the ball into the crowd for a goal kick. But that's why he's down at League 2/Conference level. Works extremely hard and can't fault his enthusiasm which is why I think we all liked him. Never going to be a world beater but always got the feeling that he'd come alright with a good run in a league side.

He fits the bill in terms of the type of player Clarke wants in his squad and with the club looking to steer clear of overpaid journeymen, I wouldn't be surprised if we took a punt on him. He has age on his side and he could easily improve under DC's stewardship, so I wouldn't be against getting him on board.

I think Billy Bodin has done his chances of earning a contract the world of good too. He scored a hat-trick last night and can play up front or out wide, which is obviously a good thing as we won't have a massive squad in terms of senior pros.

Notts were having a follow up chat with CSM this week. No idea how it went of course, but the longer CMS stays at Luton training etc, the more likely it is he will sign imo.

Jeff Hughes was a good player. After Jordan Richards of Hartlepool broke his leg, he wasn't the same again.

It's clear he is holding out for better than Luton otherwise he'd have signed by now. If he drops to league 2 then he is most likely to sign for Luton considering he's been with them for a few weeks.

Getting bored with the CMS talk now, Luton sign him so we cant stop talking about it!
He trained with them, he know's their manager, he played 45 minutes for them, the only reason he wouldn't sign is if someone else offered him a lot more £s per week. Something I really hope we don't contemplate.

Was that because Jeff was upset about Jordan having a broken leg?
