Jahmal Hector-Ingram is the latest striker to be linked.

Do Exeter players not have release clauses, or is Exeter's reputation for selling on talent such now that release clauses can be over a million? I was under the impression that any player at this level under a certain age will have a release clause in their contract and it'll probably be in the 200-300k range.
Stockley had a release clause of £600k but, we don’t put release clauses in most contracts. Good job otherwise we’d have lost Watkins, Randall, Key etc for peanuts.

We don’t block young talent from moving but clubs have to meet our valuation or it’s no deal.

We tend to put release clauses in our player contracts the moment they sign one that puts them over the age of 24 when it expires. If they're signed up to a long term contract which expires when they're 23 or younger; we want our own valuation met. Hence why we won't sell Dale for less than £1 million but a £500K clause for Kirk was met and accepted.

Given they're similar to us, Exeter probably operate the same way as we do.

Wrexham and others are after Rob Hunt now. I'd imagine with Tozer going for 200k+ we'd be looking at something similar. Would mean dealing quickly to get a replacement who I suspect would be another loan player.

Huge day for us today. With our depleted squad, today may well go a long way in deciding whether or not we stay up. At the moment, with 4 defenders at the club, we need two more in minimum otherwise it will be a big struggle unless we can somehow navigate our way through to January without a single injury or suspension to those 4 defenders.
Then there’s the inevitable Callum Guy transfer, which would be another blow with little to no time to replace him.

Can't believe Exeter haven't managed to establish themselves as a staple League One club by now. Produce some absolutely fantastic players and probably one of the most consistent squads year upon year.

That's fair enough. I guess that comes from having a reputation as a club that produces talent.

We've implied when we have sold players for fees which the fans view as being peanuts that we don't have much say in the release clauses... the implications being that if players (or more accurately their agents) felt a release clause was set too high then they wouldn't sign the contract, that there are better options than ourselves even for players who have come through our own academy.

Hopefully that does start to change now with two recent academy graduates on the verge of becoming Premier League starters

Yep, this is the gripe with many of our fans. We’ve earned well over £10m in transfer income over the last few years so we HAVE to start to progress. We’ve got everything in place to be a solid L1 club but we can’t quite seem to take that leap.

This summer’s been a frustrating window and I will be pleased once it’s shut later tonight!! Brought in some good players but I can’t see us being much stronger than a play off level team. Time will tell.

I think part of the problem is that our board are far too risk averse to spend money on a Guy replacement when there's a chance Guy will still be here. Those are the sort of 'little' risks you have to take in order to get out of this division.

I say 'little' because the risk is you end up with a squad that has 'too much' strength in depth, which isn't really a bad thing and it's not money wasted if you go up or end up with extra saleable assets. It's more about spending money on contingency plans whereas I think our board are obsessed with running the club in the most extremely efficient way, with barely a penny spent on players who aren't in the first XI.

FWIW, I don't think they're corrupt and siphoning off the money from player sales, every time the club's financial situation comes up then a large section of the fans claim that money the club earns ends up in the back pockets of Jenkins and Nixon (or even Clibbens and Holsworth who are employees and thus entitled to a wage and I don't think they are involved in the holding company where the purse-strings are). I think they're old-fashioned and very risk-averse to the point where they refuse to take even those risks that are necessary and also have had the fear put up them by the fates of clubs like Darlo and Stockport and thus constantly believe the club is on the verge of insolvency... I think we're probably in better financial shape than they claim we are.

We've ploughed most of it into facilities, and we are very wary of going into the red like we did a few seasons ago. We are probably the most conservative team in the division.
Also, Taylor has spoken about his frustration about losing out to other teams due to location, despite offering better deals.

How's the fan ownership thing going. You'd think these sort of issues wouldn't arise in a fan-owned club because the board are connected with the fanbase and share their concerns... but in reality trusts (ours only owns 10% of the club) can quickly lose their connection to the fans and start behaving like the self-interested and secretive owners that the fan-ownership model is supposed to prevent.

Funny you say that right after my post, but I figure that you win on account of having made all that money from player sales and yet we're usually competing around the same level, and never seem to be a division apart for very long (never gonna get away from devonlad am I?)

What’s Gavin Holohan like Hartlepool fans?? Seems like we’ve made a late bid for him

Goal scoring centre mid, nothing spectacular but generally solid player, I'd like to keep him, he has an amazing rapport with the fans and is a fan favourite, he has a 6 figure release clause according to our press so honestly for that money I'd cash in and move on.

Football League World reckon we want Oldham captain Carl Piergianni which would be a weird one if I’m being honest.

If you’re happy to cash in that strikes me as he’s not good enough for League One then?

Errr well it's his first proper season as an EFL player and I've seen absolute zero League One footy so I couldn't tell ya to be honest, hasn't looked out of place in League Two so far, he's not a blow your socks off player, just steady away, scores some good goals, neat passer.

We're not in a position to be knocking back six figure deals for players, so I'd personally sell, not becuase he's bad it's just an okay chunk of change to have, the other lads on here might see it different?

Regarding Walsall I just looked at your forum about players you would like in from Argyle
George Cooper has just come back from injury and played in our cup match loss vs Swansea.
Niall Ennis is injured atm.
Byron Moore is a free agent having left us at the end of the season.
Byron Moore sounds the most likely any good?

Rollin has been great for us surprised you let him go out if you need a cb.

I'd sell him for a '6 figure fee' but I strongly doubt that'll be reinvested in the playing side.

He's got very good movement, works hard and a good finisher but I don't think he's great on the ball. I'd be inclined to say he's probably not L1 standard.

At Vale he was used exclusively as a winger. Not really an area I’d have thought Walsall needed to add to. Decent enough running with the ball but little to no end product. Always played well against us when he was at Crewe though.

Worth saying that the transfer window closing tonight doesn't mean that you'll then be safe from Wrexport coming in nicking your players... there is no window in non-league remember.

They have a different window than the rest of NL being Welsh, their window closes with ours tonight.

Correct but our friends Wrexham fall under the Welsh FA. Their window closes tonight aswell.
