Bastards!

How about for our upcoming game we scrap the actual result and winner is decided on which loanee has the better match rating?

In fairness your lad looks cracking, really
impressive signing that.

Or as Holdsworth refers to it as, "...my little black book of players"

I’ll never forget the days of holdsworth, it was like every home game you had 3 new players to get used to, was impossible

But why?? What the hell do they add here other than just copying the premiership model.

We all change managers every 5 minutes and go from passing to long ball at each change.

It’s hardly like we all here have long term plays and styles of play like you’d want from having a DOF.

Miss the days of a manager actually brining in players he wanted, I suppose it’s down to fact managers as such have died a death because no club gives them more than 6 months to learn.
Don't think those things are strictly part of a DoF's role anywhere. Maybe some of the big clubs have a 'way' they want to be present in everything the club does but even though a bad DoF will be seen as meddling I can't think of any that meddle to that extent.

In theory a DoF's responsibilities are identifying new managers, negotiating deals for players the manager wants to sign, relating football related concerns to the board and generally just being someone who sits on the board who knows football. Some have more oversight than others when it comes to deciding which players to sign and that's controversial.

Issac Hutchinson joins Crawley on loan from Derby? He has made first team appearances this season. Sussex lad so close to home.

FGR fans. Your honest views please.

Casey
As others have said, he made little impact for us last year but that was when the whole team was in meltdown.

Look out for a new member on your club forum who claims to know everything about what is going on behind the scenes and turns out to be his best mate or agent or someone.

Who knows, i’m quite sure any league 2 side would be willing to take the gamble. It’s hard to tell what level sides in the SPL are at, i bet mansfield and county would probably beat ross county
The Level, Well we sold players to that level last season.

But it seems just a total waste of time, I k ow I do t see Carlisle much but going off reports and forums beech was very much a direct long ball manager, we then don’t seem to aim for players that suit his style, and hey presto that didn’t work.

Then we due to complaints go for the total opposite approach of manager thinking to play a passing game……but have this hybrid average group of players not suited either for direct or passing game so it doesn’t work.

In comes January and from all accounts a large portion of signings were looked at for previous than current manager

The only one I would've kept was Hendrie but we are starting to get rid of the deadwood. Singh did say he wasn't satisfied with the recruitment this season although that is mainly his fault. At least there are signs it's being tackled but I'd hope for some decent permanent signings in the summer and not U23 cast offs and regional league standard free agents. Singh has got his men in now no excuses to not back them.
U23 cast offs, Wow.

Tranmere do not have a DoF but James Vaughan is involved in player recruitment.

Most clubs' DoF's don't do that though... just to separate criticism of David Holsworth from criticism of the idea of Carlisle having a DoF.

This summer's recruitment didn't suit Beech's style, there was a little more to it than just long and direct as it required players who could play in the final third (think we actually had more passes in the final third than anyone else in the division). Ultimately the financial restrictions we have (and have imposed upon ourselves) scuppered Curle's attempt to build a squad, then Beech's (Sheridan wasn't around long enough to build a squad as such and Pressley was just bobbins) and will no doubt also scupper Millen's.

I think what we see is the manager tells the DoF who he wants to sign, the DoF then goes and offers those players one year deals on low wages, which they reject out of hand, we end up signing very few of those players so come the end of the window the manager reluctantly says to Holsworth 'do you have any thoughts on who we can sign' and then out comes the little black book.

The season we were relegated to the NL,four of that team played for Motherwell the following season & they qualified for Europe.
That says it all about the standard up there.

Now that the transfer window has closed, i’ve been assessing our squad. Do we have enough quality to reach the play-offs, yes. Do we have a manager, who I feel can guide us there, absolutely not. Unless Derek changes his ways, mid-table is where we’ll finish.

GK’s:
Alex Bass
Richard O’Donnell

Defence:
Paudie O’Connor
Oscar Threkeld
Liam Ridehalgh
Matty Foulds
Fiacre Kelleher
Finn Cousin-Dawson
Reece Staunton
Luke Hendrie

Midfield:
Jamie Walker
Matty Daly
Charles Vernam
Callum Cooke
Yann Songo’o
Alex Gilliead
Elliot Watt
Levi Sutton
Abo Eisa (injured)
Dion Pereira
Gareth Evans

Strikers:
Andy Cook
Nathan Delfouneso
Tom Elliot
Lee Angol (injured)
Caolan Lavery
Theo Robinson

I am calling Matt Longstaff one of the best signings we’ve ever made. I’m not saying that he will be good. What I mean is that a League Two club has no right to bring in a player with that reputation. Must praise all involved with the recruitment team and management on that one whether it works out or not. He hasn’t looked out of place in the PL on the albeit limited amount I’ve watched him for Newcastle on the tele.

We pretty randomly ended up with Mark McCammon here. There were plenty of weird and random ones but, for reasons I forget, Holdsworth arranged for him to sign for Sheffield FC and then they immediately loaned him to us.

He did sign a few decent ones for us and we made a bit of money as well to be fair but his hit rate was pretty low really. His transfer policy was like an Aldi version of Steve Evans'.

I wonder if he will be as successful as Albert Scanlon who also played for Newcastle and later became a fans favourite at Field Mill ?

Barton and Nolan together...!!!!!
Joey's now putting together a pretty good squad. Hopefully if we win the games in hand ( 4 on some clubs ) we could make the play off places.

Aramide Oteh joins Crawley. Unattached striker.

Walsall, Bradford fans. What do you remember?

I would ask Salford fans but...

He is absolutely shite from memory. Quite fast but very bad at football. He’ll score against us, though, because that’s what Crawley players do.

Are you sure you've got the right Longstaff? I agree he looked better than L1, never mind L2, level in his debut season and he did score that goal. But he didn't feature (or shine) much last season and couldn't get in the Aberdeen team this season - hence the move to a "lower" level.

How can you rate him above George Maris???

Now big brother Sean has been pulling up a few more trees and getting some game time for Newcastle. He looked quite competent for 60 minutes before being pulled off when Wessi joined the fray in our FA Cup match.

He’s (just) alright, won’t be starting as a main striker every week but will chip in with the odd goal and worked fairly hard from memory.

Seen that with Rodders. Does seem to me the hierarchy at Walsall don't seem to do their due diligence very well. Saw Pomlett say a little while back they weren't aware of Monthe's FA charge. All that tells me is they don't do any basic research and it seems the same here with Rodders. Feel for your manager as it does come across he is being set up to be the front for a lot of ineptitude behind the scenes. I know DC isn't exactly popular at Walsall but it's not hard to see why he was frustrated on the face of it.

Hopefully for him he's back out on the field asap as do wish him well.

We've signed 6, 2 permanent Canavan (Bradford) and the returning John Rooney (Stockport) and 4 loanees Glennon (Burnley), Amari Holloway (Burton) and 2 academy players in Harris and Wakeling.
We've let our young 3rd choice keeper go out on loan to South Shields, Mark Ellis has joined Solihull on loan, Zanzala went to Exeter on loan, but is now out injured and having an operation this weekend. We also had loanee Festus Arthur recalled by Hull and we released Jamie Devitt (has rejoined Carlisle).
So - so far it's 6 in and 5 out - although I'm expecting Mike Jones and Dmitri Sea to be loaned out to National League clubs some time soon.

Just reading Oldham's forum and they have signed Tope Obadeyi as a free agent. Apparently he trialled with County pre-season and in a "development" friendly recently but I don't think he trained continuously with us in the meantime.

[Apologies, name misspelt.]
