We’ve only made 4 signings, 2 guaranteed starters Walker is better than league 2 if we’d had him all season we’d be much higher up it was fantastic to get him permanently. Matthew Platt will be first choice and sounds a talented player. The other two are most likely second choice keeper and a young lad who’ll replace Robinson on the bench which I’m happy with for obvious reasons that it’s replacing Robinson. It’s those still in contract I’m most bothered about especially crap like Threlkeld, but hopefully some can be moved on. Most City fans are happy with the signings so far, I say most…

Still a lot of comings and going’s to come, the season isn’t technically over yet. Although there will be meltdown if George Miller shows up which keeps going around on Twitter.

I can see Young getting a lot more minutes than Robinson. I can see him rotating with Angol, given Angol's glass hamstrings

True but Robinson was brought in to get more minutes, he was just to shit to get them.

As you say, it's early days yet. I think Hughes is capable of bringing in some very good loan players like Bristol Rovers and Mansfield have done. From the outside, these signings look a little uninspiring (Platt might be decent but he's been part of a defence that nearly got relegated) but at least you are doing stuff early and seemingly identifying gaps you need to fill rather than panicking like last year and bringing in dross like Robinson.

Platt was part of a defence that was mid table in terms of goals conceded. Goal scoring was our problem not defending.

With Platt by the sound of it you can compare him with Connor Hall. None of us knew who he was when he signed from Harrogate but already developed into a top defender at our level. Could easily see the same with Platt. Bradford clearly have identified some targets to fit into Hughes system/squad rather than pick a few so called big name players for the sake of it so fair play to them I reckon. It’s what we did last summer and it worked ok.

You could argue that Platt's defending was one of the reasons a team as bad as ours didn't get relegated...

People seem to be underestimating Young too - in our first season he was the best player we faced after Wes Hoolahan. Don't know what his attitude or injury record is like but he certainly has the ability.

We did warn you! Consider it evens for giving us Guthrie!
Considering we took Mills, Marshall and Jones off you I think we’re still up but I am petty like that;)

If you don’t go up, then if Wilson or Proctor fancy a move ‘South’ to Bradford then I’m sure we can accommodate ;)

But yeah our recruitment of strikers in particular last season was appalling to say the least, we took Robinson because it was him or nothing I believe.

I’m not too concerned about the fact Platt was in a struggling team, we don’t want to sign their entire team but one or two standouts can be found in teams at the bottom end, as the other Vale fan said Hall probably came in from Harrogate not the most exciting signing sometimes a player needs better players around them and a system that fits.

I’m sure PL teams won’t be put off by Tarkowski been at Burnley either.

I’ve not seen a bad word from Barrow fans and usually when a fanbase in unilateral it’s a good sign. Most signings the last few years fans have warned us they’re garbage like yourselves with Robinson and it’s turned out to be the case. If you ignore the Twitter virgins and WUMs football fans usually are quite knowledgeable so I’m happy with the signing. As I say it’s some under contract I’m move bothered about shifting, we need a new number 9 imo, Cook isn’t bad but don’t think he fits in a possession based team which Hughes has already said he wants, he was dropped as soon as Angol was about 70% fit.

Definitely seems like there is more of a structure to recruitment there and I'll guess we'll see with Platt...didn't stand out when we played them buy I guess defenders don't always stand out.

As you say, Bradford have previously gone down the 'names ' route before but unfortunately most of them came for a pay day and were well past their best.

That's where Salford struggle in my opinion. They just try and sign a load of good players on paper and hope that they form a team, rather than identifying a style of play and getting a squad together.

Stop trying to make us cry

Wilson thankfully is under contract for another season as not sure it’s even possible to replace him. Proctor is OOC though hoping we find a way to get him to stick around.

Wilson has found his home now... finally somewhere he is loved and he's producing due to that.

Remember years ago and a mate dragged me along to Hyde United to watch a United-City youth cup/reserve game. Wilson looked the absolute nuts, got a hat-trick, maybe even 4 and was convinced I'd seen one of the future England strikers. He did actually did get a few appearences at United the following season and bagged a few

I then genuinley don't really know where he went. Lost track of his career until I saw he popped up at Salford. I thought with the Class of 92 stuff, they'd just managed to pick up a gem on massive wages with their United connections who should still be rocking the Championship at the very least. But then it obviously never really happened there either for whatever reason?

I know there are many stories like this in football so at least he's contributing positivley somewhere. Wasn't he from Alsager, Congleton or one of those Cheshire towns seperating your lot from civilisation?

He’s from Biddulph so yeah it’s completely disconnected from civilisation.

His career took him up to Aberdeen and Brighton as well as Salford but he’s said himself he’s never felt at home anywhere until he came to Vale. I’m not one of them who thinks all our players are the best ever etc (or at least try not to come across like that) but his ability and intelligence is way above that you normally see in L2.

I've even found the game

Good to see he's contributing positivley somewhere. I can certainly believe his ability and intelligence is well above L2 level based on that game.

I was gutted when Proctor left us, very underrated player helped us secure a playoff spot in league one when we traded him for the useless Devante Cole. If you don’t go up would be surprised if a league one club don’t fancy a punt.

Injuries are the problem with Proccy and why he possibly would stay, he's missed a huge chunk again this season, if he was fit all the time he wouldnt be at Port Vale!

His first touch is probably the best I have seen at Vale Park in the 20 years or so I have been going, if he can stay fit he is massive for us, he has taken us by surprise though as we all assumed he was a luxury type striker but he works so hard chasing everything!

Wilson's touch and reading of the game is championship level. If he had a yard more pace and a better injury record he'd be playing there now. So much natural ability.

Danny Rose signed for Stevenage.
Fatty getting his signings in early.
Still, he will change the lot again in January when he says he is a great manager but all his players are shit.

Danny Rose whenever he’s played against us has been a right diving little bastard. Definitely looks like Stevenage reverting to their original loathsome type.

Creditable rumour with us and Tranmere apparently insterested in Ipswich midfielder Idris El Mizouni.

Fits the profile again of the sort of player we'd target to sign. We bought Aaron Drinan off them last summer who was of a similar profile, I wouldn't be suprised if we did the same with El Mizouni, we need to sign at least one central midfielder who is comfortable playing the way Wellens wants - Ideally we need to sigm two.
