Iffy Allen signed on a one year contract following his release from Barnet, he's impressed a lot of fans during his trial.

He was never really given a chance when with us and it was pretty much over for him when he broke his leg at the start of last season.

Tricky winger but lacks end product. Think he would be useful in the Conf South but L2 is a bit much for him IMO.

Who have been your opposition in these friendlies? Wouldn't read too much into it if he looked good against non-league sides. He went out on loan to several Ryman sides but didn't set the world alight there.

Has looked sharp in pre season with 2 goals already. What pleases me the most is he played 46 times for a decent Fleetwood side last season and can play as the right side of the 3 attacking midfielders.

CMS watch: not in the squad tonight despite a more or less full first team XI. Also we have two trialist strikers in the squad despite John Still suggesting on Saturday that we weren't looking to take either of them on (the implication being that they were only a back-up plan to the Mackail-Smith deal). Was due in for "a decision" yesterday...

Doesn't look overly promising on the face of it, although perhaps it's a bait-and-switch with CMS signing to be announced at half-time or something.

Are midfield really does look strong im wondering if we may play a whole team of mids lol. Completly agree about pre season friendlies he has looked really sharp, I cant wait for the season to start. I think Hollands may just go before then.

CMS is at the game tonight, in directors box with Elliott Lee, who's watching his brother Olly who's on the bench for us.

Olly Lee? Ex Birmingham Chippy?

Yeah, on loan at Plymouth last season where he was mostly hated from what I could see on their forum.

Don't think we would be likely to offer him a deal though, Still said he wasn't actively looking to add to the squad apart from CMS.

He was in the team that got us relegated. Not sure I put all the blame on him though.

Football manager greats never come good in real life. Unless Ryan Donaldson has reached his Leading star for any Premier division striker potential yet.

CMS update (again) from our local journalist/commentator extraordinaire:

Simon Pitts ‏@SimonStattoP 7m7 minutes ago
When asked John Still has replied that he'll have a good conversation with me on Saturday about CMS! Hear the interview soon via @DiverseFm

Saturday just so happens to be the 1st of August, i.e. the very first day after Brighton stop paying CMS his exorbitant current wage. The only way I can read that is that is a done deal with the announcement delayed until Saturday so he gets his last fat pay cheque from Brighton in full.

We had that lad on trial in 2011. He got taught a lesson by 2 Rainworth Miners Welfare defenders, 1 of whom I went to School with. He never got asked back.

Ha! Saw a thing on BBC the other day saying he retired. Still only 29!!

Hull local press strongly linking them with a bid for Andre Gray... Brentford apparently want £7-£8 million for him!!! That 20% sell-on clause is looking better and better... :£

That kind of extra income really would be the icing on the cake for what has been an uncharacteristically fantastic transfer window for us.

Lee Barnard and Roarie Deacon sign one year contracts at Crawley.
Bernard is a league 2 player but Deacon was hardly given game time by Stevenage last season so really not sure.
Probably means Izale McCleod is off. He will take any hope of the play offs with him.

We've just sold prolific youth team striker Daniel Agyei to Burnley. Well, not quite sold, but he refused a new contract so we were entitled to compensation. Press reckons we were holding out for £250K in negotiations. Would love to say how good he is but I never even saw him play. Probably a good move for him to go somewhere like Burnley at this stage rather than Chelsea and the like who were also interested.

In fairness, they do still have four quality defenders for that level even without Chester (Curtis Davies, Maguire, Dawson and Bruce Jnr.). Their defensive record was good last season, it was a complete lack of goals that did for them.

Steve Bruce is a joke with transfer policy though. They once signed a striker (Rowan Vine) from us for £2.5 million without even scouting him! In Vine's own words:

"I was a panic buy by Steve Bruce. He didn’t even know me, didn’t know who I was, hadn’t seen me play. I scored for Luton at St Andrew’s and 12 days later they were coming in to buy me.

I once had it out with him and said ‘You wouldn’t have even known who I was last year when you were in the Prem with Birmingham’.

He replied ‘On your day you are like Cameron Jerome’. I said ‘I have never played like Cameron Jerome in my life!’

Eric Black, his assistant, said they looked at the goal-scoring chart and I was at the top – there you are £2.5m."

Sam Clucas has gone to hull for 1.3 Million, meaning we get 260K. Not bad making 360K on a player that cost us 20K and was going to leave for free when his contract ran out.

Am sure One Call Insurance are happy to see a tiny percentage of their money back.

£8m for Chester is a joke, as is £8m for Andre Gray. Add another £4m to that and you get Jordan Rhodes.

He wasn't at that point. He was one of the most lethal strikers in the Championship. Injuries at QPR did for his career unfortunately, but while he was with us he became a very, very good player.

"Another £4m" is an extra 50% so of course you could get a more proven player for that!

Andre Gray will be a Premiership player within the next 18 months one way or another. If he continues to progress at his current rate, he'll be a decent Premiership player too. The market is horribly inflated now of course, I'm not saying he is "worth" £8 million but then why should Brentford sell for less if they don't want to? They are under no pressure to sell whatsoever, either financially or in terms of contract length.

Still cracks me up that only about 18 months ago there were numerous Wrexham and Grimsby fans on the old board who were adamant that no-one would ever pay more than £250k for him! They mocked when we said we would never sell under £500k. Now it looks like we might end up receiving £2 million+ for him all told! Good times...
