Ryan Taylor's a good striker IMO. I like a striker who brings others into play, occupies centre halves. His numbers possibily aren't that high but McAtee etc would have benefitted from his work keeping centre halves occupied. Much prefer strikers like that than penalty box strikers who only make selfish runs to score a goal and contribute nothing else.

You also have brought that Orsi in haven't you? He's a different type of striker to Taylor.
Yeah, Orsi is the only other striker we've brought in. Do you remember him from the COVID season at all? We don't really know a lot about him. I had a brief description forwarded to me in a Whatsapp group from someone who knows someone who worked with him at Maidenhead and it sounded promising. More of a #9 admittedly, but I think people are looking at him as a backup signing that might come good and are still expecting a more established #9 to come in.

I love Ryan Taylor, reckon he's quality. He work so well with McAtee, it's been a joy to watch them link up at times last season. And yep, he brings so much to the team however he is often too deep doing this to be able to get in the box on the end of moves. Those 34 year old legs can't quite bust the gut needed and if we'd have had someone on the edge of all the balls that rolled across our opponents boxes last season it could have been a three horse title race. The points dropped in those 0-0s and single goal defeats in our horror slump would have been much scarcer. Fitting those McAtee, Taylor and a #9 into a system is not something I have the answer for though but I'd much rather we had the option.

I wouldn’t worry, plenty of time to get deals done.

Threlkeld was primarily a defensive midfielder before his arrival here - also attempts to play RB on occasions. He’s available.

I can see Andy Cook rocking up at a club like yours anorl, y’know.
I'd have Cook here for sure. The stumbling block here would be that we had him before under Hurst and he often got dropped so there's a big question mark over whether he rates him or not. Cook has carved out a great career since us though, so who knows.

His most natural position is at CAM, he's too lightweight to be playing as more of a conventional CM and hasn't really got the engine to be box-to-box from what I've seen of him. On the ball he can really make things happen with brilliant close control and good weight of pass, it's the off the ball stuff he needs to work on.

Cheers, that sounds all good. Whether he's a starter or more of an impact player off the bench depends on the Jack Payne contract situation which should hopefully be clearer this week. (said the same last week to be honest!) Happy enough with this signing though, that should be it for midfielders now I reckon.

I remember him scoring against us at E.P. Tidy finish, can't say anything else stood out much. Definitley a different type to Taylor though, smaller, slighter, more off the shoulder/penalty box etc. I imagine he's a different option type striker which will have been Hurst's thoughts.

It was seen as a coup for Boreham Wood when they got him in loan last season but he didn't seem to actually do much for them and was actually there when their form tailed off after their cup run. Harrogate obviously weren't overly impressed to loan him out so early in his spell there.

From what I gather (and the posters that were in this division last season might want to correct me here), Harrogate's tactic in sorting out a dodgy defence was to resort to 5-4-1/4-5-1 formations leaving Orsi up top on his own when he's the type of striker who doesn't operate as a lone striker. I'm trying to not read to much into his Borehamwood spell. We had them both times after March and they were woeful both times. Set up for a 0-0 vs us at home when they were still in with an outside shot at the title. Very odd season for them as they looked decent in the first half of the season.

There must be at least a half dozen of us chasing this elusive striker position, feel like we've been talking about signing one for a month now.
The good ones are asking 5k a week plus thats why a lot of us still dont have one mate.

Orsi’s goals to starts ratio was actually good at Harrogate, it’s the B’Wood form that worries me but I think he could be a dark horse

You can't count Pizza Cup goals - it's about as competitive as a friendly. He scored one league goal against those jokers Scunthorpe.

He started against us last season but was crap and got subbed off - Armstrong was Harrogate's main man, so easy to see why he didn't get much of a look-in.

I know your not his biggest fan but in flogging Bogle you’d of thought they’d have someone lined up to replace him, not scrabbling around saying we’ve offers in everywhere.
Just heard that Chris Long was a done deal, then backed out last minute.

Maybe that's why Hartley looked a bit pissed off last night

Nothing surprises me at Pools anymore.
Cullen left, then Gav,our only players with goals in them, with no one adequate to replace them.
We're in the same predicament as last season, only we had the late NL finish as an excuse, this time we don't.
We have no goals in the team whatsoever.

We’re about to sign Finn Azaz on loan from Villa. Newport fans, what’s he like?
Surprised he has joined you, was expecting him to go to a championship team, what I will say is you probably have one of or thee best Am in L1.

Meh!!! It will all end in tears :)

ha - I suspect the fees for the last 2 players are pittance ha'penny. Probably more likely to be bonus driven based on future success. Don't forget we also have the Scott Twine sell on banked away, thanks for kick starting his career by the way BI :)

I thought twine was out of contract when he left you for the franchise.

You know what thought did ;)

Yeah as I.D said, the compensation was set at 300k and a 20% profit sell-on with Franchise. So a nice little earner of somewhere not far south of a million quid in the end. Will be paid in installments so it's not like we have a WARCHEST (you can mark that on your bingo cards) suddenly.

Right!! That explains why your lot turned down the 6 figure fee we offered in the January window + the manager you had at the time was a complete bellend.

Are you sure? At the time our manager was Richie Wellens who I don't think rated Twine particularly highly, and the chairman Lee Power had a habit of pocketing good fees received for talented players so i'd be surprised if we would have turned down a good bid, are you sure it was 6 figures?

Edit - it was Sheridan actually. Him and Power were Bellends squared.

Absolutely positive!! The story goes your club didn't even have the courtacy of replying to the offer and it was Scott himself that phoned flynn to tell him the offer was refused, I think Roger Stone or uncle pastuso would know the details in full,

We still need a left back, left winger, centre mid and with Tom Anderson’s ongoing injury an experienced centre half
