Not sure it's financial or just clubs realising that it makes more sense to sign up players who have impressed enough to step up a level, rather than players dropping down from a higher level because they can't cut it.

We've signed Waters, Whitfield, Warren and Nwabuokei from non-league for our starting line-up. Much better than shite like that Dion Donohue from you guys who was just looking for a pay day.

Dion Donohue was good for us. Clearly an absolute nut-case off the pitch and his career has gone nowhere since he left us I believe. I think he had family issues as well possibly?

Yes there absolutely is value to be had from non-league. Charlie Austin from Poole Town and Ben Gladwin from Marlow the ones that stand out for us. Obviously it's never guaranteed but you can hit gold - as Peterborough have proved repeatedly down the years.

This week we've handed a 3 year contract to and paid a fee for a player who has only played one season at National League level and that's it.

I realise we are not an attractive club and most EFL players simply don't want to play for us, so as a result we have to broaden our horizons and look lower down, but this seems a big gamble. But at the same time I'm glad we are looking long term.

Looks like we’re loaning Lutons new signing Aribim Pepple. His background looks really interesting and he had enough about him for Luton to buy him and had a year at Getafe. One of those where he’ll be mint or absolutely shite but it’s slightly more exciting than some kid who’s been sat in an academy doing nothing for years

Did he play in Getafe's first team? If so he should absolutely take the piss in League 2.

It’s an annual ritual dance that will shape some club’s season - one way or another.

Sneaking suspicion that Harry Smith might become available. Decent player, but not sure he fits the way Wellens wants us to play. One to watch if we bring a forward in.

Signed Jack Stretton from Derby. Young striker.

Not sure if it’s loan or permanent, waiting for official announcement.

Stockport County.
Stretton was good for us in the NL season before last. Quick and knows where the goal is.

Hartlepool signing Aldershot's players is bizarre. They can't all be that good they were they worst team I saw last year in the NL.

Everything about the way the club is making decisions currently is bizarre, especially in recruitment.

We've loaned out central midfielder Ethan Coleman to Bromley for the season.

Always expected to happen, not very often have we paid a fee for a player, tied them down to a long term contract and got it a bit wrong, but on this occasion we have done so far. Can't fault Colemans effort, but he lacks a yard or two of pace anyway and the step up has proved too quick for him. He's the sort of player you sign when you're one of the big clubs in the National League and you cherry pick at the smaller clubs better players.

Still has a further year on his contract, so a chance he can come back if he has a good season in South London.

This leads me to believe we will be bringing in another central midfielder soon, because we are lacking them in numbers right now!

Jack Stretton confirmed on a season loan. Sounds like he has some potential and a bit of pace which our team needs. He obviously did quite well at national league level with Stockport so hopefully he can repeat that in league 2.

The reaction to us signing this lad from some mostly on Twitter has been embarrassing, wrote the bloke off before he’s even kicked a ball, he might be shite, let’s see him kick a ball first.

Personally I think it’s fine, last week people were moaning (myself included) that we only had 6 on the bench, now people are moaning that we’re making singings and filling it up, can’t win.

A lot of those on twitter are quite bitter because a handful of fans have been banned after the Bradford game last season. Quite toxic on there atm.

We’ve signed some bloke from wimbledon apparently,

Given we’ve already one of the better midfields in the league and we’re short both in defence and uptop it’s an odd appointment.

All gone quiet on the central midfield front for us. The Moncur splash aside, the window has been very under-the-radar as a whole. We’ll see if the needle has been moved sufficiently because, whilst we can boast five or six of the best players in the division (Vigouroux, Beckles, James, Moncur, Smyth and perhaps Archibald) the squad is very light on numbers.
There is no way on this earth Beckles is one of the top centre halves in this league never mind players

I’m expecting a midfielder to go the other way now.

Hartigan was at Wimbledon for years.. He's technically good.. He can pick a pass and he's decent at set pieces. He's not really an attacking or a defensive midfielder.. I'd say that he is a bit of a luxury player. No pace and doesn't score many. !! In saying that he had a good start to last season but faded. He may just need a change of scene . He's only 22 I think and played quite a lot of games in league 1. He's a decent signing for you.
