Copyrighting the tweet "CAIN UNABLE!" when he misses a crucial penalty in the playoff final.

We have signed Logan Chalmers on loan from Dundee Utd. Tricky winger by the looks, which is something we have been crying out for all season.

Crewe fans really rate Finney apparently. Unfortunately for you lot, it's the other Finney that they like not the one you've been linked with.
Aye Charlie nearly 20yr old raving about him. on the bench 9 started 5

That would be a brilliant signing for you! proper box to box midfielder and hits a mean free kick.
Really? Lightweight and very much an understudy to Oli Cooper and Azaz last season. Would’ve loved to see Cooper and Azaz back with us but couldn’t care less about Cain. Took a long time to come to terms with L2.

Grimsby 30pts already, must be safe now surely....
I see what you're doing, your reverse gypsy curse is not welcome at all. We've been down twice, you have to go down again before we do if anyone does.

It’s hard reading this thread seeing so many decent signings whilst we yet again sit around with our thumb up our arse waiting until the last minute

Our young loaee keeper David Robson has returned to Hull (that sentance makes me shudder ). We got him in after our keepers were injured

Played a few times and was decent. Believe he is a Welsh u21/23. I must admit I thought he had let in a shocker at Colchester but when I saw the highlights it curled righti nto the corner.

Anyone picks him up I reckon he would do good job.

No worries. Glad we can help

For too many years we’ve had no money at all to pull our weight and help you buggers out. It’s only right we do our fair share now.

Mind you, it sounds like we’ve probably spent between £200k - £300k total on our 5 signings so far. Hardly breaking even the smallest of football banks. And we probably made that much extra on our 2 cup runs this season. 3 games v Prem clubs and 2 on TV.

Why do clubs announce that they are going to announce a signing?
Why don’t they just announce the signing without announcing that there will be an announcement?

Why do they spend all this time making videos with the player's identity concealed until the last seconds, when in the text of the same post that you have to read first it already says the player's name?

Pure and simply fan engagement. That’s social media for you.Dunno about your club, but it seems to get all the fans up in a frenzy, talking about the club, positive vibes etc etc.

And it’s not just a “signing imminent” then “signing announcement”. It’s followed up with a “What do you think about that one fans?”. And a “Here’s our new signing holding up the shirt”. Then an interview with the manager about him. Then an interview with the player. All set out over a few hours or days to keep the engagement going.

It’s not the fees, per se, it’s the 2-3 years of inflated wages that can cause the problems.

No argument from me Dan. We don’t know the wages of any of them, but rumoured to be a lot higher than current.

A few things put my mind at ease though.

1/ Think the contracts are all 1.5 and 2.5 years. Morris is only till end of this season.

2/ Of the others the oldest so far is only 30 (x2), a 29yo and a 25yo. So they won’t be “over the hill” completely in 2 years. Should give good value this and next season regardless.

3/ We are also rumoured to have pulled out of the race (if true) for either Stockley or Marriott because the wage demands are too high. So it looks like we aren’t simply chucking money away regardless. A lot of our fans seemed of the mindset about those 2 of “just do it, forget cost, they’ll keep us up”. And you’d have to say, paying a quality striker a sh!t load if it guarantees safety is definitely worthwhile. Relegation could cost millions. But the owners aren’t going to that extreme of paying whatever.

Anyway, fingers crossed at this end

I’m not having a go because we have done it at Mansfield in recent years, but the money to make Lapslie go bottom of L2 instead of L1 is probably ridiculous but to be fair they are in a situation where EFL membership is under threat so I’m not blaming em.

One of my biggest bugbares in football.

When we reached the League Cup final in 2013, naturally there was a lot of media interest. There were articles released all over the shop about how this minuscule L2 side had achieved the impossible with a squad that cost £7,500 to assemble.

£7.5k is was we paid Guiseley for James Hanson back in 2009.

Meanwhile, no mention of the what we paid these players in wages - which accumulated to £3.3m.

Apologies for going off topic but I feel much better now.

Weirdly, we seem to have made money lately on players/managers that cost us nothing. McKirdy, Reed, Garner/Lindsey and now, apparently, there are a few L1 clubs after Macdonald who cost us nothing.

i dont think it was as much as what you think it was. probably extra grand a week and a move closer to home would have sealed that easy. but we haven't spent anything in last few years manager insists we are now '' catching up with rest of league spending ''

He had serious L1 offers, I think it’s a lot more than you think to get a player to go bottom of L2 with that sort of interest. Short career.

Peterborough owner said a big spending L2 side offered to pay what they paid for David Ajiboye but he wanted to go back to Sutton. I imagine Gillingham or Colchester.

According to Alan Nixon Walsall latest bid for Danny Johnson has been rejected and he may even be in the squad this weekend. Still expect him to go.

Stockport County.
After being told the figures we get for being in this league this year compared to the NL last year, I can understand why clubs would push the boat out as far as they can to stay up here.

I think they know a lot of the content of these posts is fairly pointless, though they have a lot of fun making them. The fact that the posts keep coming and fans will still react to them even if it is just a 'here is the signing we announced an hour ago holding up a shirt' matters more for the algorithm and making sure that potential fans keep seeing that their local football club is doing this.

Not to mention realising that you can go down, do everything right on and off the pitch down there and still take years to get back up again because you had to engage in a transfers arms race to have a chance of automatic promotion, didn't quite make it and your season came down to a playoff game against Borehamwood which you lost 1-0.
