Well we’ve signed Ben Nelson on loan from Leicester who was at 22nd place Rochdale and could hardly get a game and also James Brown from Blackburn who was at Stockport but got sent back when they bought Knoyle off us, bit ironic. Problem is we need a centre mid and a striker otherwise these two will struggle like the rest of our defence
Very quick bombing forward, can whip a good cross in on occasion, leaves a bit to be desired when defending

He played in our first game v Carlilse and was then injured until November.

Played a total of 12 games for us. Big unit and apart from one game decent with his feet (check twitter about worse corner routine). He may have had one of those must play clauses because Robson was doing well while he was injured.

He has definitely improved over what Dearne Valley rover saw. No calamities for us but no real wow moments either.

3 keepers and a keepers coach lost in January!

Did see it posted we might go back for Robson. Who wants to come to the circus?

If not we still have Addai who look really good...he looks as the ball flys into the net.

Casey
Looks like this guy has gone a bit OTT about him then.

Talk of Andy Cook being flogged to Wrexham for £70k.

He’ll be on around £4,000 per week with us at the minute. He’s out of contract at the end of the season and is currently sitting on the bench.

If he goes, it’s very controversial and will no doubt piss our fans off - especially after the news of Foulds departing for Harrogate.

Can only see this happening if we have a quality replacement lined up. It won’t be the target man type either - Jack Marriott perhaps?

Cook's all round game is poor but he's a goalscorer and the only one we have. Is 70k going to be enough to replace his goals? I don't think it is. Plus it's Wrexham so may as well take the piss and rob them if the deal is going to happen.

26 weeks of £70k = £2650 + his current £4K per week wages, gives you around £6.5k per week to play with.

Rough figures, obviously. But you get my point.

Salary Sport reckon it's 3.5k a week, but to be honest, that's not excessive for L2. He's not even our top earner. Not even close. I'd be furious if City sold him. I understand that Hughes likes to give people a run in the team, but I'm pretty certain he'll be back in the first team soon. Oliver is a good striker, but I hope this is just another nonsense Cook story.

You’ve got a decent replacement sat on your bench in Oliver, use him correctly and that money can be used elsewhere in the squad.

Seems to lack that real poachers instinct that Cook has.

We’ve played this way with Cook and Oliver. One has 16 goals the other has 4.

Cook on 5k+ p/w does seem like the perfect Wrexham signing.

Yeah but you’ve not been starting Oliver very often and he hasn’t had a run of games in the team.

We have redundancy at almost every position. (Probably not GK). If players get fed up and want to leave, then it seems we let them, but I would have thought that Oliver was unhappier than Cook. Hughes doesn't change his team unless they start picking up bad results, but I wouldn't regard Cook as dropped as much as rested for a few matches. Of course it's possible that Wrexham or someone else may offer him more money, but I simply don't think we need to sell him.

Yeah but at the same time Oliver will never be the goal scorer Cook is.

20 goals in a season in L1 for us. Surprised they’re reluctant to use him given they gave him a 3 year deal.

He’s started every game since Boxing Day. He also started at the beginning of the season.

Cook is a better goalscorer - but Cook being Cook, you cannot rely on him for a full season.

I'm not convinced there's anything in this. Wrexham are in a minor pickle regarding bringing another striker in. Yes, Parkinson is only seemingly capable of signing big names from the levels above for that role...that bit checks out but then I can't really see Cook, or anyone else of his standing, going somewhere to have to fight for one of two spots, let alone potentially sit on the bench behind Mullin and Palmer.

I don't know, they love an aging strike force over there, albeit It's not quite Ormerod, Morrell and Adebola levels.

Cook is one of those players with that natural instinct in front of goal, will score out of nothing, got downfalls to obviously but Oliver doesn’t compare in that regard but excels in others.

Absolutely, I don’t disagree that Cook is the better goal scorer, just wondering why Oliver is there if he isn’t seen as some kind of direct replacement already

Vadaine is a hell of a forward - the best aerially in League One over the last two years as well as scoring countless goals at that level of all varieties (weirdly not too many dominant headers from crosses which you might expect).

It was the same with Tom Eaves - we properly got a tune out of him in a goalscoring sense and he was an absolute beast, but both have gone elsewhere and their new clubs have struggled to get anything like the returns we saw. Falls directly on Bradford that he isn't scoring as many to be fair, he's proven he's capable when used properly.

On the Welcome to Wrexham documentary on one episode it had Parkinson’s January transfer targets for last year written on a whiteboard and one of them was John McAtee, so it was quite ironic that it was him that absolutely ripped them to pieces in our play off semi final. :bg1:

Good debate above, Cook and Oliver two different sorts of players, Cook gets branded a bit of a target man by those who don’t seem to have watched him much but he’s all about his finishing, all the Mansfield comments above are spot on. Personally it sounds like Twitter nonsense anyway.
Foulds yesterday, don’t think anyone would care if it wasn’t for the fact he’s a City fan, very much a bottom half of the league player and another for me unneeded renewal last summer that’s last till the first window.

Wrexham get linked to every player who laces up boots in the lower leagues. Seen them linked to our entire front line, two thirds of our midfield, and half of our defence in this window.
