I'm really stunned that bottom feederfootball club supporters come out with - He'll do better staying here and getting promotion/more experience/ etc. etc. No he won't. He'll do better moving, getting 3 times the wages and maybe being loaned out to a team a couple of divisions higher. If anyone here was offered X times the money for doing the same job they would take it but expect a footballer to forgoe that money due to 'loyaty'.

We had fans saying the same about Twine. They were stupid as well.

You seem to have got triggered by somebody else's comments, replied to my message, started throwing insults about and insulting fans of other teams AT THE SAME LEVEL AS YOU!!!
This is why no one likes the franchise, you were given a free spot high up the pyramid, fucked it up, and still think you're entitled to be higher than league 2 when there's teams in non-league with bigger crowds.

I never said he would/should stay with us - he'll undoubtedly move up the pyramid, it's just a case of when and how much. With Dane Scarlett being recalled by Spurs, Ladapo loaned out, and Hirst probably out for the season, I think Ipswich are in the market for a player they can use now as they try to hold on to second spot, not one for the future.
I'm also not sure Ali would want to move right now being involved in a major tournament, and there's the small matter of him being under contract for another year and a half, so if the price isn't acceptable, we don't need to sell him.

That's some gap to fill in midfield I think.
In some respects I agree, as he's a very good player for this level. Great on the ball, good engine and loves a tackle. If any L2 midfielder has all those traits then they're gonna be a loss for any side at this level. However having had time to think on it, he's a 21 year old kid playing as defensive midfielder in a side that has shipped almost 50 goals in 27 matches and has only kept one clean sheet since early September. He's obviously not directly responsible for that, but there's still an element of naivety to his game that has cost us at times that will disappear as he develops. I'd personally like to see a bit more experience in front of our defence. We've also only had him for half a season and we've radically changed style and approach in that time, so he's hardly synonymous with the DNA of club and what we're trying to do. There's also the factor of this not being a classic season for us. Rather lose a player like Conteh when we're down in 19th and going neither up nor down than when we're up in the playoff spots.

Definitely disappointed to lose him but 200 or 300k in the bank (once Middlesbrough have had their cut) and a decent sell on will do.

TL;DR: not arsed didn't even want him anyway.

Stockport County.
Seems a really low fee? We sold our 3rd best centre half to Wimbledon for nearly 200k. The market is mad. Decent deal for Bristol Rovers IMO. We had a look at Conteh in the summer, we should have gone for him, we still lack a player like him in the middle. Fair play to Grimsby for making the move back then.

We had to put a 275k release clause his contract for him to come as we were up against Peterborough if rumours are to believed. Low fee yep, but the idea is that we make the big bucks when he gets his next move.

Not triggered by anyone. Just amazed at people saying that 'stay in the bottom division it will improve your career prospects'. And if you read my post properly I said that we had the same with our supporters pontificating about Scott Twine, obviously before we got relegated last season. We are in division 4 because we are crap, just like everyone else down here. We can't hold on to players because if they are any good someone further up the food chain will pay more and give them better prospects. Neither can anyone else except for Wrexham and maybe Stockport as they are going places.

Yeah, bizarre. Almost as odd as the announcement video.

Looking forward to seeing how much that 20% gets us when Bristol City take him off their hands at some point in the next couple of windows.
No need to be so bitter Son .

That Conteh is making some weird decisions. Should’ve got a better move than Grimsby in the summer really, and now having gone there he should be waiting for a better move than Bristol Rovers. Sit still and wait for a minute, man. Good player though.

If we were sitting in the playoffs then would it be considered a poor move? Doesn’t really matter long run as I imagine he’ll be in the Championship in 18 months anyway.

And the reason you aren't is the Town legend Paul Hurst. I'm sure he didn't expect to be struggling Over the relegation zone in League 2 in January.

He's moving upwards and he's moving quick so seems a decent move to me. If he has true Championship level potential I agree he will get there soon enough anyway.

He’s probably got Premier League potential IMO. For him to play like he does at this age makes me think his ceiling is very high. Usually for a player to make it from L2 to the Prem they’d need something special in their physical attributes to make it but in his position I don’t think that’s the case. He can collect the ball from anywhere on the pitch and the ball just sticks to him in a way I’ve not really seen before at this level before and he’s still only 21.

We’ve had young players before who made it to the top, Dembele & Ryan Bennett both looked destined to make it and I think Conteh has more potential than both of them.

It’s a good deal for Bristol Rovers but it’s still a good deal for us when he inevitably goes again. We’ve made a tidy profit on a player we probably should never have had and selling him to a League 1 side increases our chances of maximising that 20% sell on.

Just seemed completely unnecessary from your club's official channels. Always felt Town and Bristol Rovers fans have had quite a friendly rapport so it's just weird to see a club trying to stoke the fires and not the fans.

Conteh got the move he and his agent wanted in the summer. They chose Grimsby over Stockport, Peterborough and others because they had a plan and felt Kamil would get more chance to shine. They are now repeating the plan.

Signing long term deals ( for the lower leagues),giving security, but insisting on release clauses if the work goes to plan.

Moving to Bristol Rovers is exactly the right move for a kid who only recently turned 21. Had he held out for a Championship club he could well be lost in a large squad, becoming a bit part player. At the Gasheads he will get more minutes and opportunity. If he stays more than 18 months I’d be gobsmacked

I think in most cases it’s best for these players to move up a step instead of two, you struggle to adapt early on get lost in the reserves etc etc.

If he really is going to be Championship quality you’ll know in a years time and he will get a move anyway.

yeah he is doing the right thing, a lot of players get greedy or bad advice from their agents saying they are better than they are and move up to far too quickly and then disappear into bench warmers/reserve squads.

He is moving up the right way (all be it probably a season at a side would be better!) getting good deals one level above and appropriate release clauses if he proves himself. He's still only 21 got a lot of potential.

Fair enough you obviously know more about Grimsby than me, I just thought he stood out both games as noticeably better than everyone else in the team.

He was, but as has been noted, our problem is with conceding goals and he wasn’t really helping in that respect, despite making the most tackles in the league. Contributed next to nothing going forward so we’ll just have to see how we adjust.

Aaron Collins asked not be in involved for Bristol Rovers today. Been linked woth ourselves and Bolton. Bolton obviously a bigger team but he d probably play more here and get just as much money. Be shocked if we got him though

Probably true, we wanted him before you signed him but lost out.
The person who posted it said he’s been told it’s 90% done, he’s normally pretty accurate with his info.
