What sort of wages can Mansfield pay? Wouldn't have thought it would be particularly difficult for a Luton/Pompey/Doncaster etc to blow you out of the water financially

Like mentioned it's up to JR really, Apparently it's likely to be a top seven budget in the coming season so it's up to the chairman to decide how much he's willing to offer.

What's he like?

He is quick, direct with an eye for a goal I think his near post heading wasn't used enough by us over the last couple of seasons as it's a decent weapon in his armoury.

Hey he is playing in League two so don't expect another Gareth Bale but he has been called up to the Welsh squad a couple of times and he is way too good for what we had last season.

You've got rid of Nicky adams and we have just signed a Dutch winger. I'm concerned as he is by far our best player.

Scored 16 goals in in a poor side last season but missed some absolute sitters which would have kept us up, goes missing when he doesn't get his own way or the defence bullies him, moans a lot too. Yes he scores goals but he could be far better if his attitude improved.

To me ryan is easily better than league 2, and there's more chance of finding Madeleine McCann alive than him staying with us, so I'd be surprised if he went to donny - a club that seems to have bumped back down to its natural level

We've signed Lloyds James ex Orient and Robbie Simpson ex Cambridge.

So what are they like? I always thought James was ok and Simpson strikes me as a hard working forward but has a poor strike rate? I am hoping we get another forward in to add a bit more potency.

Agree with all the observations on Rimpson from fellow U's. He also has a particular talent for bullying centre halfs and getting retaliation in (sometimes first) without the ref noticing - he's won some valuable free kicks and corners for us since he rejoined. He'll enjoy the Exeter way of playing. One of his best games was running the midfield when we beat Burton away last season.

Top bloke. He's in the middle of launching a new business that will be his career path when he hangs up his boots.

In Grimsby news, Hurst is on holiday at the minute and we've notoriously not signed early ever before. This year is different mind you, we're needing about 12 players minimum, providing the players offered contracts actually sign them.

Brilliant at Woking, not so brilliant at Eastleigh. Not a surprise to see him sign for a club like Crawley.

Yep, was one of the best players in the Conference in 14/15. Was really surprised to see Eastleigh had released him. I questioned what had gone wrong in the non-league forum and it seemed to be a combination of it just not working out and tactics that didn't suit him. If you play the ball on the deck and don't bypass the midfield with long balls then Payne is potentially really good signing.
