I don't think the defence has gotten worse, well save the last 3 seasons. Our defence has been intrinsically linked to the calibre of the manager we've had. It turned into a laughable shambles under Steve Holland. It improved briefly under Thordarson, but that didn't last long and neither did he. When Davis stepped in, the defence that had been a shambles under Dario suddenly looked ok. First season in L1 was also fine, but then it descended into farce as did the whole team and the management.

We've paid fees for a few CBs and a number of defenders, though, surprised you've forgotten all the players we've signed. Since Dario first "Retired", we've signed John Brayford(£130k), Billy Jones(2nd, £60k), Kelvin Mellor, Carl Martin, Mark Ellis(somewhere in the region £75k wasn't it?), Jon Guthrie and Anthony Stewart for fees. Not sure if we paid anything for Patrick Ada or Thierry Audel as well. I don't think we are loath to spend high wages on a defender, we've done it a number of times over the last few years. We don't even need a top quality player, just another Dave Artell, a bang average L2 defender who's been around the block a few times and can hold his own at this level. I don't see the defence improving all that much this season, I can't see Davis, Ray or Turton moving and they need to for us to improve. None of the defenders we have signed up should get extensions for the next 12 months. They should all this season be playing for their futures. Take the lumps this season, blood in the likes of Ainley, Kirk, Udoh etc and really go for it in 17-18.
Surprised you guys didn't go for Shaun Brisley, think he wanted to move closer to home (Manchester) so going to you would've been ideal, certainly more so than coming all the way up to Carlisle.

We can't bring anyone in until we ship someone out. We have George Ray and Harry Davis stealing a wage at the moment, until one or both of those useless divs are sacked off, we'll be stuck with what we've got.

Kevin Nolan has officially left us:

http://www.leytonorient.com/news/article/2016-17/os-statement-on-nolan-3169538.aspx

Will probably end up as a player/coach somewhere. He badly fell out with Francesco Becchetti and was hard done by in that respect as Becchetti went on a huge power surge last season from February onwards.

Having said that, Nolans off field conduct when he was relieved of his managerial duties didn't do himself any favours, he turned up to the end of season awards pissed and slagged off alot of the squad - saying they were crap in front all the supporters. As true as it was, it wasn't very professional and he nearly had a fight with a group of fans at said awards night.

:ffs::sur::hb::gmc: Unbelievable incompetency once again from our club. Announcing a player is signing before he's even done it, then him fucking off to Motherwell of all places! Beggars belief. We're tinpot and we know it.
I must admit, when I saw that Motherwell had signed McHugh I thought there must be another player by that name. I did laugh a little bit when I realised :fl::fl:, but really it's a bit of a shitty thing for him to do, agree a new deal and then fuck off 2 days later.

We've signed Jake Hyde from York on a free. Not remotely enthused by this signing. A strike force of Hyde, Godden, Liburd and Akinyemi, can hear many boots a'quaking now.

He spent the first half of last season in India, the problem with that is that the season ends in early December and players then tend to come back to Europe and celebrate Christmas with their families - before finding a new club in January, the month off I find has left players playing catch up in terms of fitness. Another good example I can think of was Peter Ramage, who did similar last season with Coventry and ourselves - he came back from India halfway through the season, after a month off and looked a yard off the pace.

Nicky Shorey did similarly for us, and it was four or five games before he started to play a bit really. To be fair to him, once he got up to speed he was pretty decent to be honest.

Argyle are in talks with Jack Payne, is he any good?
I really rate Jack.
He looked a real prospect when he was with us, neat tidy, good passer of the ball and has a decent shot on him as well.
He seemed to lose his way at Posh after seeming to fall out with the management, which was strange as they had made him club captain.
I reckon once he gets settled again and is happy he will be a very good signing for any League 2 club. In fact I would be happy to have him back at The Gills.

A press conference has been called for 1pm tomorrow now to unveil 'major news'...

Probably a change in pasty supplier or some equivalently irrelevant nonsense

Absolute dogshit for us last season, but then again, who wasn't? Comfortable in possession but incapable of actually having the gumption to 'run a game'. Not helped by the abject lack of movement around him, mind.

Specialist skill: Waving his arms about whilst letting the opposition midfield run past him.

We still haven't been able to agree a fee with Mansfield for Green. It's turning into a bit of a saga this now. Personally I'd just tell them to fuck off and move on. He's good but he's not exactly Rakish Bingham or Neymar!

Mansfield's valuation is apparently way out of our valuation of him. The player feels frustrated but is remaining professional throughout the negotiations out of respect for what Mansfield have done for him. His representatives are in contact with CUFC on a daily basis as they don't want Carlisle's interest to fizzle out.

Carlisle United aren't budging though. They think the closer it gets to the season and then the deadline, Mansfield will back down a bit and negotiate a realistic fee, rather than force a player to stay whose head is elsewhere.

The sooner this saga is over the better. I'm starting to wish I hadn't been told.

For me, I thought there was a good player in there but it never really came out in his time here.

Ian Hendon spent half of last summer trying to negotiate a deal for him, he eventually ended up signing on a season long loan - which come the end of the season screwed us all over because we had alot of loans and you can only name 6 in a matchday squad and he was cut alot towards the end of the season because of this.

Once Hendon got sacked, Payne got phased out of the team to accomadate Kevin Nolan playing himself alongside Nigel Atangana until Lloyd James came back from injury.

He showed signs of good ability, but by the end his attitude and form stunk - But he wasn't the only as it came because of our idiot owner.

There was an agreement for us to sign him pernamently in May, but Payne refused to sign the contract. He even said to our fans at the end of season awards "There is no way I'm signing here, its a circus" or words to that affect. Don't blame him.

Payne is nothing like McHugh lol, for starters Payne's main defensive contribution was sliding in, missing the ball leaving the player clear space to run at the defence, decent on the ball though. Absolute no brainer which one is the better player (McHugh).

Fair enough, though there must be something in him to command 750k and be Posh skipper at 22. If he signs hopefully Adams can bring that player out of him and not the one Orient saw last season.

No? Come on, you're from the most intelligent city in this division. ;-)

He's solid if not spectacular. It's an ok signing.

Blair is a good left back when he's fit. That's the issue. He's never fit.

I think a few managers really questioned his desire to get stuck in and battle because he was repeatedly left out when times got tough

Adams was quality for us.

I would image the only reason we didn't sign him is that we have Mal Benning who is top drawer and a promising youth left back as backup, who will be getting game time this season should Mal not be able to play.

Bournemouth are interested in our right back Alex McQueen. We've offered him a new deal but he's yet to sign.

I don't expect him to stay, but he's no where near prem standard. Maybe one day but not yet, he wasn't even a regular for us in this league last season, made 20 apps.

He had a great loan spell with us when Benning was out injured. Really wanted us to sign him permanently but we have no need for two left backs. Good signing.

Adams got a lot of stick from Notts fans but he wasn't particularly bad. He's just not strong, quick or technically good enough to be anything other than a middle of the road lower league full back - he's also prone to the odd shocker where he looks like his head just completely goes - and as previously mentioned, he's always fucking injured.

Adams has consistently been injured or useless for about eighteen months now. Was good when he first signed and did well at Mansfield, though, so who knows.

Derry used to play him on the wing a lot if I remember right, which was a bit weird.
