A press conference has been called for 1pm tomorrow now to unveil 'major news'...

Probably a change in pasty supplier or some equivalently irrelevant nonsense
Almost spot on!

(I know this probably belongs in the Kit thread)

Jamie Ashdown training with the club next week to see if it leads anywhere. be an excellent addition if he's kept himself fit since retiring. hearing that he has so fingers crossed we will have a decent keeper at last

Bournemouth are interested in our right back Alex McQueen. We've offered him a new deal but he's yet to sign.

I don't expect him to stay, but he's no where near prem standard. Maybe one day but not yet, he wasn't even a regular for us in this league last season, made 20 apps.
To be fair, if they are interested, I doubt they see him as being a PL starter. I bet he'd go into their U21s for a couple of years. Yet more ways for the big boys(well, maybe not Bournemouth) to hoover up the best young talent and then stick them in their reserve teams..

He's quick and has a decent cross on him which are two of the main things a player like him needs to be good at, the other attributes can be worked on I guess. I don't really expect him to go to a Prem team but I'd be very interested to see how much compensation we'd get if he did. Anything over £50k would be a nice bonus and would comfortably cover his replacement's wages.

Joe Pigott also signs for Cambridge, 1 year deal. For a back up striker I'm very happy with that.

Will be interesting to see how Joe goes. A lot of people didn't warm to him. He can look lethargic and uninterested. Add to that the fact he isn't the most clinical and misses a few chances, he never really got a fair crack with the crowd. However I suspect there is a decent player in there. Might do better when he gets settled somewhere.

I don't agree that he looked uninterested, at all. He didn't have a particularly bad record as soon as he got off the mark.

Think this is a very astute signing for Cambridge - and low risk.

We could be in for a decent windfall. Its rumoured Burnley are after Ashley Westwood for 6 million, with us netting 20% of profit (sold for 1 million) and Grant Hanley could be leaving Blackburn for Newcastle for 5 million with us getting 10%. Around 1.5 million if they both come off.

Left footed, but prefers playing on the right. Which is a shame, as he's got the pace to go round the outside of players, and only ever crosses the ball along the floor, which doesn't work when you've cut inside. Will score a few goals, though.

Special technique: cutting in onto his left foot, then passing the ball wide of the near post.

Thought Pigott was poor to be honest, his general play is very poor and he isn't particularly clinical either, missed some absolute sitters at the end of last season, the most notable the open goal against Exeter in the final game.

Was still expecting us to sign him as Jones seemed infatuated with him so there probably is a player in there somewhere for him to be so all in on him, but pleased we haven't signed him to be honest.

We signed Shaun Donnellan on loan from West Brom until January. Described as a defender on our website but appears to have played in central midfield whilst on loan at Worcester last season.

Can't see us being in the market for another central defender unless Cuthbert leaves (which I would not be at all upset with in truth). Isn't he crocked anyway?

Pigott is an odd one, has a knack for getting in good positions but doesn't seem to offer an awful lot else. He still had a vastly superior goals-to-minutes ratio than any of our other strikers last season excepting Jack Marriott. When we signed him I remember reading a thread about him on the Southend message board, where the consensus seemed to be that his greatest strength was holding the ball up and linking play. He was awful at that for us, perhaps it was just a confidence thing.

I wouldn't have been unhappy with him as a bench option and Cambridge could certainly do worse as an understudy to Corr.

As he's got no pace anyway, I think he should focus on bulking up and working on his upper body strength, he's way too weak in 50-50s for a guy of his height. I reckon a year working with Mick Harford might have made a proper striker out of him.

Jake Wright? Missed a few games last season through injury but certainly not crocked.

Ah, thought I read somewhere that he had ongoing back issues.

Roarie Deacon, Nathan Mavila and Reece Hall-Johnson were the trialists in our pre season friendly today.

Sure, no problem.

We had ex MK Dons goalkeeper Ian McLaughlin playing as a trialist today, as well as strikers Wes Fletcher and Junior Joachim.
