We've got 2 senior strikers in Corr and Williamson already and we tend to play 4-2-3-1, so only 1 striker at a time.

The 'ITK' poster over on Outlaws reckons we'll have one more coming in, maybe two, but not until we shift Magnus Okuonghae and Mark O'Brien. Jones is really committed to using the youth team players who have been given pro deals. He's also said Cuthbert is in Hungary with the squad and didn't play due to minor injury.

To be fair, despite Outlaws being a thoroughly awful place, this bloke is usually spot on.

Yessenthaler seems to think Il Duce will have two more players to pick from before the summer is out. Hope it's a centre back and a winger. Wouldn't mind Cuthbert back. Far better than his showings last season.

Pigott is an odd one, has a knack for getting in good positions but doesn't seem to offer an awful lot else. He still had a vastly superior goals-to-minutes ratio than any of our other strikers last season excepting Jack Marriott. When we signed him I remember reading a thread about him on the Southend message board, where the consensus seemed to be that his greatest strength was holding the ball up and linking play. He was awful at that for us, perhaps it was just a confidence thing.

I wouldn't have been unhappy with him as a bench option and Cambridge could certainly do worse as an understudy to Corr.

As he's got no pace anyway, I think he should focus on bulking up and working on his upper body strength, he's way too weak in 50-50s for a guy of his height. I reckon a year working with Mick Harford might have made a proper striker out of him.

I'd say this is pretty much spot on. I wouldn't have minded him, but with Marriott, Hylton, McQuiod, CMS and Banton, there isn't room. I don't think he excels at anything enough to warrant making space for him either.

Regardless, a fair amount of our fans were needlessly dickish towards him.

Some poor team is about to get lumbered with Akinfenwa. I pray it's not us

Me too. I just don't get it with him, is it purely the youtube kids that watch those weird lads shouting at webcams that like him or do people genuinely think he's something above a fat 34 year old that can't run, limits your entire team to playing one way and is practically only useful as a 20 minute cameo specialist?

Yeah I wasn't his biggest fan but I did feel pretty sorry for him at the Dagenham (?) home game where people booed him onto the pitch, that wasn't on.

It did give him a bit of a kick though as he did begin to play better after that game, so at least shows he has the right mentality.

Reckon its a load of nonsense myself, but we shall see. You know what people are like on our message board ;)

Ha, I've given up with that place! Although I think the person who posted it is Julian Lloyd-Webber? Might be making that up but I recall a previous exchange on there suggesting it was him.

I'd be surprised, however he was the only player not to play in our friendly yesterday v Paksi in Hungary. Our ITK person on our forum said he had a "mild injury" and was there, but he didn't appear in the squad picture.

Scott was poor last season and didn't portray a captain when called upon. I wouldn't be too bothered about him leaving.

Orient are very welcome to offer £50,000 for him though!

Well yes, he can't run, and yes, these days he is an impact player.

But you do get so much more with him. There's a bloody good reason why he keeps getting clubs. Plus, don't try and pretend you never play long ball, in which case there is no-one better than you could afford at holding the ball up. If by some miracle you're a 'total football' club, then that clearly didn't work last season in which case you need a plan B anyway. Technically speaking he is excellent, he's strong as an ox, and he knows where the goal is. Why wouldn't a League Two club want him?

It's incredibly lazy to just assume he's shit because he's got a large frame (not fat, by the way).

In regards to his 'outside interests' (for want of a better term), is that really such a big deal? He's a very marketable man, and he's taking advantage of it. It doesn't affect his ability to play and score goals. I would say the only reason people might not be in for him are because as you say, he's 34, so you'd only look at giving him a years deal anyway.

Ask fans of Swansea, Gills, Northampton, Wimbledon and wherever else he's been, and ask them if they think he was 'fat and limited'. Bet I know the answer.

He's off the Wycombe anyway it seems, as fellow wardrobe Garry Thompson's 70th minute replacement or something.

Never heard of having an impact player in your squad as an alternative plan? Especially one whose game doesn't need pace anyway, as he has other attributes? Or maybe I'm wrong and Notts County only play lightning quick forwards like the ones Barca have.

Anyway, you lot think Stanley Aborah is good and Stuart Nelson is shit, I'll take your footballing opinions with a pinch of salt.

Yeah, no fair enough, I mean Aborah did play one game for you 6 years ago. Touche indeed, that's me shut down.

He was with us for 3 months and only made one sub appearance. Because he wasn't very good.

Well that's not true but thanks anyway. Again, apologies for instigating all of this by stating I hoped he didn't sign a 34 year old lower league journeyman striker, I shall think differently in future.

But they have also signed 12 year old Dayle Southwell so that balances it out a bit!

I feel like i want to cut my wrists :ffs: We should set up our own old people's home so they can have somewhere to live after they retire in a couple of years time when they don't know where the fuck they are,a bit like last season on the pitch really. :sna:

What's Bayo like at whining at refs?

Unimpressive signing, and I suspect if we can afford him he can't have got many offers, but I suppose if you're going to play aimless hoofball may as well have someone who can hold it up.

Towards end of season when bothered he was great in 30 minute burst. 2/3 of season was slow lazy and hopeless.
