As was an opposing player. The referee for some strange reason then allowed the teams to bring on a player each to make it 11v11 again.

Sent off in a friendly?! WTF!!
He was defending Myles Weston after an opposition player went to punch him and they both ended up on the floor  Seems we're going to show some fight this season in more ways than one which is more than we showed last season. :box:

I know - who does that, right? He clearly hasn't learnt "the Wycombe way" yet which is to dive and whine and get the *opposition* sent off, not do it yourself. Sigh.

Paul Green played for Doncaster Rovers last night in the first friendly of the season.

Played 20+ games in Championship for Rotherham last season, would be ridiculous in League 2!

Jordan Clark and Callum Preston were two trialists playing for us last night. Preston played the second half. Young keeper, would most likely be third choice. Jordan Clark looked good, good energy, box to box midfielder.

We have decided not to offer a contract to Larne Oyebanjo. Now I think that is an error but as he only played seven times last season due to injury I do understand. Decent right back for this level and in league one the season before where he played nearly every game.

Joe Ashton has left/we've decided not to sign him and has turned up at Braintree. Experienced centre half. We have better but I'm surprised he has dropped to the conference.

We had a player sent off against us last night. He decided he was going to attack McNerney who calmly shrugged him off and did not get involved. Odd to watch and I don't think it's a good idea to attack a bloke the size of McNerney but the fella had completely lost it.

Addison Garnett signs a two year deal.

19 year old centre half released by QPR. He is big and imposing but obviously one for the future more than the now. He had a trial at Carlisle during the winter.

I suppose that explains Ashton leaving.

This our 13th signing of the summer.

One man doesn't make a team - that's where all the budget has gone.

I think we may get into trouble with the fair play rules this season. Collins, Boldewijn, Roberts, Banton and Connolly don't come cheap. Add in a keeper who was sold for over a million a couple of seasons ago and Yorweth and Payne and that's a fair whack!

Curle liked Garnett, unfortunately I think the flooding messed up any chance he had of a contract as he had nowhere to stay so had to go back to London.

KC said we'd keep an eye on him with a view to bringing him back up when the time was right, we signed Mark Ellis around that time though so guessing he was just let go.

Close to signing a young midfielder on loan. And if that don't come off, we always have Ollie Turton. lol.

Back to pleading poverty after all the 'ambition' hyperbole with the Dagnall signing. Perhaps Davis should have thought about prioritising positions before spending all the money.

He was described by someone who watched one of his trial matches as a drunken Titus Bramble.

We're only broke because yet again, Davis is trying to fix the mistakes he's made over the last 2 pre-seasons. We wouldn't be broke had he not given Billy Bingham a 2 year deal. Or had he not given Harry Davis a decent amount of money despite him being a crock. Or had George Ray been released.

I have no issue with us prioritising the strike force. As I said before, that always used to be the strongest area of the team and I believe it is again, not that its saying much given how weak the other areas are. What I will say though is, when SD claimed they were targeting experience in a number of other positions, that was possibly before Dagnall came on the radar. You get the chance to sign a decent striker like him, you take it and just do what you can in the other areas. The issue isn't how he's spent his money this pre-season, its how he's spent it in the last 2.

What also annoys me is how, yet again, he hasn't learnt his lessons. We've seen what stunning successes George Evans and Adam King were when we brought them in on loan. Young, no experience, nobody to support or guide them. So what are we doing now? Getting in a young CM with no experience and no leader in the middle of the pitch to guide them.

Our season essentially rests on 2 things: Lowe and Dagnall bagging 10-15 each(maybe a bit more) and the youngsters in midfield/attack stepping up big time(Cooper, Saunders, Udoh, Kirk, Ainley and Jones need around 20-30 goals between them, maybe more if Lowe and/or Dagnall get injured). If either of of those things don't happen, it'll be another tough season coming up.

Oh and as for Turton, I have never gotten this notion that he's a CM. What about the lad makes him a CM? He can't tackle, he can't shoot, he can't create. He doesn't have the greatest of engine either. He came through the academy as a RB, he started his Alex career at RB. He was apparently switched to midfield on Neil Baker's suggestion, then moved back to RB once Tootle left. Now they are moving him back to midfield. Why? Well, for me, it isn't because he'd make a better midfielder, they are doing it for the same reason they did it in the first place. They have no experience or depth in the middle of the pitch and they think he gives them that. Was the same when he was 3rd choice behind Murphy and Osman in our first season in L1. Trying to cut corners by moving 'Utility' players around. Yeah, that'll work.

We apparently had a fee agreed with Newport for John-Lewis before his injury the other day. Now I do think he's an okay player but Hurst's obsession with him is just borderline unhealthy. I'd hope nothing comes from it just from the pure fact he'll be the first name on the team sheet no matter what.

Dunno if you followed L2 last season but he still can't hit the target fwiw.

Crewe Alex have signed Newcastle youngster Liam Smith on loan from Newcastle United on a 6 month loan deal. Sigh. So much for signing an experienced CM.

Sounds like another Adam King to me.
