Loach is one of the nicest blokes in football, always thought he was solid enough for us that Collin was an unnecessary signing last summer - solid if unspectacular really - your typical lower league good shot stopper but his distribution, command of his area, decision-making etc...means he'll be not much more than that (it's never stopped Stuart Nelson though).

He also does an incredible impression of Ricardo Moniz.

Been out of the loop a fair bit over the past few weeks; just catching up with signings and squads so far. Just having a look at Mansfield's squad. Yes, it looks expensive, but it does look pretty strong already.

Trying to second guess their starting XI:

GK Bobby Olejnik
RB Rhys Bennett
LB Johnny Hunt
CB David Mirfin
CB Zander Diamond

RM Paul Anderson
LM Will Atkinson
CM Jacob Mellis
CM Alfie Potter

ST Danny Rose
ST Alex MacDonald or Jimmy Spencer or Lee Angol

Probably a 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 may be as strong or stronger. But that team has the potential to win League 2 next season. Still think they need one more player up front and I think the full backs are a weak spot. Whilst I think MacDonald is one of the most underrated players at this level, I don't think anyone else in their squad bar Rose can get 20 goals next season. I think they've got 3 third choice strikers, rather than a second striker. Angol will certainly get to double figures.

Bennett and Pearce were the centre backs of a fantastic defence last season, along with Benning and White so it's not a given for Mirfin and Diamond.

White and Benning are two of the best full backs in the league so you would guess they are likely to be first choice.

I don't think it will look like that in defence or midfield, Bryom in midfield is likely.

All the players he retained were for a reason.

Surely that wouldn't be their central midfield? It'd be overrun in every single game.

Mirfin is an incredible signing for Mansfield. He was unbelievable for us on loan a season or two ago, and playing regular in L1, cracking bit of business. You should do well next season.

Munnsy is class. Gutted he was released, but for some reason Johnson refused to give him a chance last season. Was absolutely immense for us in the Conference.

How come he never got a go? How does he play?

He had some injuries at the start of the season and then struggled to get a place. Also, with our pitch being the second worst in the whole of the Football League, ploughed fields don't really suit him.

He's a tryer, but he's also brilliant at creating chances. Can put the ball on a sixpence. Don't be put off by his stature either, he'll take on anyone.

We knew he was always going to be released, but I don't know any Cheltenham fans that wanted to let him go.

So we're short of two goalkeepers still - I was always impressed with Blackman at Wycombe last season who was on loan at Chelsea, wondering if he was plausible for us to sign him for the season...

...until I saw that he was earning £13,000 a week at Chelsea!

A sign that the loan system needs to be sorted out, because a) Wycombe obviously couldn't pay that, so probably 80-90% (or all of it) was paid by the parent club at least, so they're getting an unfair advantage and b) clubs shouldn't be stockpiling players!

Seems we're trying to get him back and he says he's up for it as he enjoyed last season. Had he signed for Luton you wouldn't be moaning about his wages.

The amount of money a player earns isn't necessarily an indication of anything. See Michael Tongue earning £40k/week at Stoke and playing 12 times in 5 years. There are tonnes of players out earning money that isn't in keeping with their talent.

Not his fault he's been offered a silly contract.

The point I was getting at was that Wycombe are getting a player that would normally be taking up half of their budget for nothing.

Don't get me wrong, players need to be out playing. I think its an indicator of the silliness of the Premier League more than anything. Its a wage that none of our players have ever earned in our history.

We've withdrawn the contract offered to James Bailey as he's delayed too long.

In most of the games he played, he was appalling. He put in a couple average performances at the end of the season, but happy we won't have to put up with watching him again.
Though he was better than average at the end of the season and certainly worth giving a summer to train with the team. I was taken to understand that after being out of the UK for so long and having struggled last time he played here, we were offering him a last chance saloon, and after a rocky start he improved enough to be offered a contract, and then doesn't even respond to it... what a knobhead.

Couple more signings on the way this week for us.

Held talks with a L2 midfielder last week.

Mansfield have turned completely middle class, hence the new Tory MP.

Everyone suddenly has more cash to spend, including the football club.

Haven't Mansfield signed anyone today?

No rumours coming out of Notts. All quiet on the Meadow Lane front

JR does this through sponsorship deals, so not really.

Though I hope his spending big isn't the long term deal.

I think realistically he wants to establish us as a league 1 club, which despite recent history is a realistic prospect.

Richard Duffy has extended his stay. Our aging strike force of Stead and Ameobi look set to stay for at least another year

The NLP have linked us to defender Sam Magri of Dover.

Seems like he's opted to leave at the end of his contract, with Fleetwood, Rochdale, Bradford, Peterborough, Hibernian and Motherwell in for him as well.

We keep hearing rumours of being in for more players than a link in a Mister T necklace. Hopefully will be some new players in over the next week or two.

Just seen Jon Nolan signed for Shrewsbury on a 3 year deal yesterday, teaming back up with Paul Hurst. Bit of a blow for Chesterfield that one, I take it? I know he started well last season, did he carry that on throughout the seaaon? I had him earmarked as potential Team of the Season material in this division.

I'm more inclined to believe the NLP than other sites.

Wouldn't believe anything that shite rag has to say. Thank fuck I'll never have to read it again.
If you mean the " Non league paper " then I think you are wrong Its a very good read and much better than the Football league paper.

NLP is a good paper - they just have it in for Forest Green, as do most fans so I don't see much of a problem.
