Personally think we need another CM still for sure, if we don't get one in it implies that we wouldn't have been in the market for one if McGeehan had stayed which seems crazy to me when you think about a) the number of minutes that Smith and Gray got last season, both now gone/going, and b) how many minutes players not of the required quality like Lee and Cook got last season... Surely we'd have been in the market for another even if no-one had come in for Cam?

I suppose the alternative might be that McCormack is going to play in one of the middle roles of the diamond, I've been assuming he'll play the holding role but if he's a ball-winner/chaser ala Smudger (albeit a much better quality one) then perhaps not? Jones never played Smudge at the base of the diamond. Then you'd have Rea as first choice anchor man with McCormack and Pelly or D'Ath in the box-to-box roles, with Shinnie as the #10. That would leave us with a choice of 4 midfielders from 8, i.e. two for each position, with Lee as back-up for the holding role and Gambin/Cook/whoever misses out between Pelly and D'Ath. But it would probably mean getting in another central defender unless we really want to push on Famewo and/or Musonda?

Honestly who the fuck knows, with Jones we'll probably just play a keeper and then ten midget #10s.

Shinnie seems decent and if it means fewer Cook appearances I am 100% onboard!

However we absolutely need another proper central midfield player at the least for me.

Even with these signings, good though they undoubtedly are it's all fiddling round the edges and ignoring the elephant in the room IMO. If we're expecting Lee or indeed Cook to be a big part of a promotion winning midfield then i think we're likely to be disappointed.

Our basis for dismissing rumours often involves it being "...heard from or told by a bloke in the Fez."

We've sold Ethan pinnock to Barnsley :( we said we wouldn't sell him for less than 1 million so I hope that's the figure we received, I know we rejected a 500k bid from them so it will be more than that. Absolutely gutted though this lad will be playing Premier league football very soon.

And if we make 1 million pounds on a player can we spend the whole 1 million without breaching financial fair play?

Cedric Evina is our second "Stella" signing. This time a year long loan from Doncaster.

Not sure about this signing. If we had got him from Oldham or Charlton where he played a lot I would be over the moon but from Donny where he seems to have played one game last season I'm concerned.

Chris Arthur and Andre Blackman arenour current left backs.

Casey
View from Donny, nice bloke, quick, can't defend and can't cross a ball so we were all dumbfounded at him getting a 3 year contract plus once he got it those that gave it wish they hadn't. No idea what went off, personally I hope he does well as I said he's a good bloke.

The local farm shop, enjoying an elderflower juice surely?

It's actually either Costa Coffee, Nandos or Greggs. Jon Parkin in particular liked Greggs. A lot.

Well we've got 7 senior midfielders on the books now, plus Bakinson, plus Smith who's on the TL.

We've got McCormack, D'Ath, Shinnie, Cook, O Lee, Ruddock, Gambin, Bakinson.

Not convinced we're going to be in for another one.

Yeah which is my concern as we definitely should be.

Cook and Lee are... well Cook and Lee, not much more to be said there, the others bar Ruddock and McCormack (who is 33 and seems injury prone in recent years himself) are number 10 types not in my opinion suited to playing the wider roles of the diamond. D'ath might did an ok job from what I saw of him last season but it's clearly not his best position.

Smith is as good as gone with Jones making clear that transfer listed players aren't even training with the first team so he shouldn't be a consideration at all.

Then we're getting into total unknowns with Bakinson. Maybe he suddenly leaps into the first team picture but you can't bank on that.

We absolutely need to get another proper box to box midfield type player but like you say with Jones borderline obsession with number 10s (I mean we played Gilliead, pretty much an out and our winger who clearly did not want to play there, in central midfield for a good portion of last season) and his much talked about Cook love affair I'm pretty concerned we won't which is a big big misstep IMO. Even if we do end up playing 352 or whatever those central midfield positions are not good enough.

I very well may be proved wrong (and hope I am in fact) but I'd have much rather spent 250k on a decent midfield player than on Collins (who is undoubtedly a top player for this level) given the make up of our squad and the areas we needed to improve upon based upon last season.

Chelsea are in for Ethan ampadu. Sucks cause we will get shafted by these new EPPP rules. He's worth a crap ton more than the measly 100k the premiershit tribunal will undoubtedly set...

Strong rumours from Holland that we have signed a forward from MMV Maastricht. Name of Thomas Verheyd. 6'3 and 25years old. Seems to be a one in three striker in the Jupiler league.

We obviously have a scout in Holland this is would be our third Dutch signing.

The same reason why grass roots no longer exists, the premier league don't give two flying fucks which is a massive shame, been following his career a little bit and he looks the real deal so feel sorry for you lot, that's why I can't be one of these two team wankers because the premier league pisses me off oh and of course Cus I think having two teams is like wearing socks with sandals, just wrong!

Anyone know anything about Andrew Shinnie then?

I confess I know nothing about him whatsoever, although looking at the Birmingham forum:

"Ridiculous signing for that level tbh"
"He's miles better than league 2"
"Rubbish player but will be brilliant in League 2. Great signing for Luton to be fair."

Ampadu has immense potential and, unless he's ruined by Chelsea, will surely become a Premier League regular starter in the near future.

It's certainly going to leave a bitter taste if the fee is announced to be around the £100k mark...

Makes me even more grateful that Ethan pinnock is a mate developer none of those horrible tribunal fees.

Yeah definitely, although it's a shame to lose him we definitely can't complain of getting a club record fee after one season here.

Luke Berry off to Hibs according to Sky Sports then?

Seems like a weird one. £250,000 is the fee they reckon, that seems extremely low. Surely there would be a load of clubs South of the border interested at that price?

Also wasn't it Berry who's bird hated it up north and wanted to move back South after a year in Barnsley? Bet she'll be happy when he tells her they are moving to Scotland...

To me, this sounds like a player who has spat his dummy out and has demanded a move so Cambridge are willing to accept a reduced fee in order to maintain some level of squad harmony. Also, Cambridge will probably be unwilling to sell to a club in Leagues One or Two and with him being a hopeful punt for a Championship club, the SPL is probably his best port of call at the moment.

In addition to this, his bird would probably love Edinburgh as well. More like Cambridge and London than Barnsley and the many towns of the South Yorkshire coalfield.

He's probably gonna double or treble his current wages at Hibernian as well. No brainer.

True, not much of a comparison between Barnsley and Edinburgh!! Lovely place but a right old trek if they are settled in Cambridge.

I'm thinking it has to be a release clause in his contract for them to accept an offer that low which is why I'm surprised no League One clubs are gambling, that's way below the going rate I would say.

We've yet to see if the Berry rumours are true but we have a track record of being a soft touch in the transfer market.

Dave Kitson - top Lg1 striker who we sell to a club in our division for £350k. Just before he moves to Stoke for £5.5m we hand over our sell on clause...

Berry - if he moves for this price will be the worst of the lot. Hugely saleable asset that we signed back from Barnsley for ~£100k. After giving Barnsley their sell on fee we'll probably bank about £120k profit.

If it is his minimum fee clause then we've still played this like mugs. Why pay a fee for a talented player, stick him on a 4 year deal and high wages, only to allow him to leave at any point for a negligible fee?

I'll be furious if this is true.

Rumours of Ajose returning on a permanent. Charlton still owe us from his transfer so it's not out of the question.

He'd rip up L2 for goal scoring.

That would be a very good signing.
