Rumour this morning that Mansfield have more than gazumped us for Freck, to the point that it's not even worth us trying to counter or negotiate our offer.

Saying that, I suppose it could just be an agent doing what agents do and pretending to call a deal off as it's about to be signed, to try and get more money.

EDIT - Someone suggesting Mansfield have offered £1.5k a week more than us and a two year deal with an option (as opposed to our straight 2 year deal). Apparently Evans has missed out on a couple of players, hence his move for Freck because he wants a player in before the weekend and wants to make a 'statement'.

Anthony De Freitas the latest to be released, signed from AS Monaco in Bruno's revolution he was one of the few imports that came wit the right attitude but just never quite worked out for him.

Inches away from becoming a Vale legend when he cut inside the Fleetwood box in injury time only to fire just over... had it gone in we would be in L1 still.

Thought he would stand on in League Two but hasnt really had a look in under Aspin, wish him all the best.

On an incoming note we have had on trial Alex Kempster from Whitley Bay, scored and set the other up in the reserves against Bradford.

Got our direct Yates replacement - Matt Virtue on loan from Liverpool. Obviously know next to nothing about him but Nolan’s scouting of Under 23 teams has been superb so far, hopefully this is another one.

Will be about right, most players like this go for a lower fee with a bigger sell on clause so if not in Forest's plans probably would sell.

Alex Jones was outstanding for us a league above and both us and Bradford bid a relatively low fee and he went to Bradford.

NJ has said the story about us bidding for Tom Aldred is not true, which I'm pleased about. Still on the lookout for a centre half if one of the sufficient quality is available, but Jones didn't sound like we were desperate to get one in. Hopefully we have someone else lined up as Evans won’t like losing out on a player like Frecklington especially to a league rival. Can’t see it being down to money as we were apparently offering well over what Lincoln were prepared too. Good luck to him.

Jones said we'd had no offers for him this window and no intention of selling yet. Not worried really, we rejected firm seven figure bids from Forest in the summer and since then he's signed a new contract until 2020 (with an option to extend another year too). His value is only going to get higher if we go up (barring a bad injury obviously).

Apparently there was 36 scouts at our Tinpot Trophy game this week hope they weren't there for JJ as he didn't even play! Wonder if any of them fancy taking D'Ath and Cook off of our hands...
