I always liked Cook and thought through his time here Hurst didn't manage him properly at all. He was obviously a young lad who needed an arm putting round him, not getting dropped after scoring a goal and being publically berated by your own manager.

Good on him if he gets a move higher up.

Mark Ellis confirmed.

Good enough if our ambition is to be in the top 7?
No reason why he can't be part of a promotion-winning side, he was at Shrewsbury under Mellon and was voted third in our player of the season competition and we finished 10th, and defending wasn't the reason for us not finishing higher. He may be a pretty straightforward defender but if you're looking to build a strong spine then you can't go too far wrong with him, also capable of scoring and as I mentioned before, a lot faster than most centre backs so should be able to provide that no-nonsense defensive grit without being caught flat-footed by counter-attacks.

Although, he says it was a difficult decision to leave, I can't imagine it would have been. Option One, accept reduced terms a club widely predicted to struggle, a couple of hours drive from where he lives, who have loaned him out to the Conference twice and with no idea who the next manager will be, or Option Two, sign for a manager he knows, who wants him, with better terms and a shot at promotion. You'd be mad to go for Option One. Only Grainger left to decide of our senior players offered contracts.

Cook also spent far too much time in the pub and in the bookies in between games. Didn’t have the right mindset then but I guess he’s more grown up now. Still isn’t the most lean of lads though.

I don't think we'd have been promoted without Blissett. He was that different option up front that we didn't have. Tyrone Marsh was a lot better alongside Blissett, with Marsh scoring lots of important goals at the end of the season. Blissett also chipped in with 5 in 15 games which isn't a bad return when he brings so much other than goals.

Like pretty much everything with Macc though going into next season, I have no idea how he'll fare in the FL.

I know it’s that wanky FL72 magazine but they said Flitcroft could be in for Luke Norris and Ollie Lancashire from us.

Oh good Lord, please let it come to pass!

I'd love it, but can't see Bogle being true.

Chesterfield fans seem to think we're in for Kristian Dennis, but our local paper guy has rubbished it.

So that’s Andy Cook gone. Shame and it’ll be interesting to see how he does stepping up from an attacking national league side to a struggling league one side.

I wouldn’t be happy if we signed Cook in L2 so I imagine Walsall fans are not too pleased.

He goes with my best wishes. Played a massive part in helping us get out of that hell hole. 51 goals in the last two seasons leaves us with a lot to replace. Quigley and Dennis are two names I’ve seen mentioned.

Surely Dennis would go to League One? Scored a great return of goals in an awful side, would be a good signing if anyone at this level could get him.

I'd be loathed to see anyone with that ability who allowed their team to go down without even so much as a whimper sign for us in all honesty. A good player but you've got to question a player who has been involved in a double relegation. Nowhere near League 1.

If he’s been scoring goals as a striker, what more can he do?

James Norwood to Ipswich on twitter.

If that happens there’ll be a genuine meltdown.

A lot of Mansfield fans would like to take Dennis, a lot of it is just the fact we would be taking Chesterfields best player mind.

Who's even conducting the transfer business at Ipswich? They've got no manager. Can't imagine any potential appointment would be happy with the club doing his recruitment for him.

The season we won the play-offs, only 1 outfield player who started at Wembley began our first game back in the league!

I can’t see that with us. The club are desperate to keep the squad together but there’s some big money being touted around our players Connor Jennings - Salford, youth players Eddie Clarke who has been attracting interest from Wigan and youth keeper Pilling - Brentford who nearly took him last summer.

Dennis, whilst being a good finisher seems to have a poor temperament, against us he got wound up all second half and spent most of it trying to get our players sent off and could easily have gone himself for a couple of bad tackles when obviously wound up. Scored a good goal thought but then when we got the 3rd he proper lost it.
(Opening game of season not the one at Blundell Park).

I can only hope his player acquisitions are better than his tactics. It shouldn’t be hard.

We have tabled cash bids for two strikers... interesting, wonder if we are in for Dennis too!

Not for me. Class a wanker, his comments about us before our derby game said it all.

Mansfield can also do better.

Chesterfield having a fire sale before they go into admin. Let the lad enjoy then pit of misery called the conference with his other chesterfield chums.
