Were in for Tommy Spurr but Sunderland also interested so can't see that happening. Also in for Adil Nabi.

Preston fans on twitter saying nothing but good things about him, could be a gem.
apparently we were looking at him but I genuinely didn't think he would drop to league 2.

I'm shocked at it myself to be honest, especially with the garbage that we were signing this time last year it makes a nice change to get some quality in.

Someone on our forum saying we’re due to sign a striker recently released by a L2 club with a decent record....

The only one I could think of that would fit that description is Jonathan Forte who’s still a free agent. He’d be good alongside Stockley I’d imagine.

Other than that it could be Mackail-Smith but he’s pretty old now so no thanks.

It will probably end up being Akpa-Akpro...

I am surprised Forte is still playing. His knees are made of hobnobs.

Yep, seen that. We will definitely need to sign a couple of strikers but can't see too many good options who were released by L2 clubs.

We need to be looking at someone with a bit of pace to play with Stockley.

No thanks.....Could you say he has a decent record??

Depends who you ask, if you’re asking every goalkeeper in the league they’ll say he’s got an excellent record.

That’s why I thought Forte would be the best of the bunch, really. He’s quick and does have a decent enough record.

Someone’s now said they’d heard we are talking to John Akinde although he’s not actually been released. I’m also sceptical how he’d link up with Stockley. Would be decent though.

Seriously, how would he know the weekly wage? And how would he be allowed to disclose it. Got to be BS, well I hope for your sake as £5k per week is obscene.

Well pleased with Welsh. Good day of business for us today. It's been a while since a signing like this came out of the blue for us.

I imagine it’s a loan and 5k is his wages or part of them? We paid 3k/4K a week for Hemmings to be here last season so it’s not too much of a surprise to see us doing it again.

Sorry but Tyler Walker is not his correct name, which was used on every tweet whilst we were linked with him last pre season.
His real (full) name is: Tyler Walker (Son of Des).

Surely Walker can find a club in League One at least.

Walker is way too for this league, if he hadn’t got that injury with us we’d have stayed up a season ago.

Hadn’t he started to get a look in at Forest too?

Aspin has confirmed he is confident another striker will be in by Thursday.

So far of the many rumours/snippets we have:

Billy Waters - that deal seems dead now for some reason, the Louis Dodds deal ends that.

Oswell - we have been in talks, wants full time but has a good career outside the game which may make a package to sign him difficult if he’s earning a good wage along with his Stockport salary.

We have been in talks with another high scoring non league striker but no names and one of the two fell through.

Mark Cullen - Rumours this one is close, came out the blue last week although seems unlikely unless Blackpool need the money?

Vassell - Blackpool striker... talk we’ve offered him a contraxt

Kanu - Peterborough press seem to think we have agreed a loan and McAnthony has said a league two club has agreed a deal, Smurf has also said we’ve agreed a deal for a league one player on loan but where would he fit in with Miller now signed?

Miller signed as Aspin has been chasing him for years with various clubs, he’s moved into a flat near the ground today, Aspin told Smurthwaite I don’t want any to and fro business just sign him... fair play to Smurf on this he went and got it done! Speaks well hopefully gets his head down and performs with the Pope..

Dodds... Aspin told him he was poor when he went to see him last season but Dodds was desperate to come back and that won Aspo over... and the fact we are literally paying hardly anything for him..: think we are paying £250 of his Chesterfield wages!

Kyle Howkins - wanting him back on loan after his excellent performances last season... likely have to see if anyone else higher up wants him first.

In terms of outgoings it seems Falkirk want Dan Turner so likely a loan deal unless he leaves us permanent which would be a shame as he has potential. He pretty much saved our bacon coming on at Mansfield last season!

Tyrone Barnett linked with Macclesfield but Askey leaving may well change that. Rumours we may try and reach a settlement with Barnett, Lainton and Davis this week.

Overall it’s been a better than expected close season for Vale so far. Sorted the goalkeeper crisis, sorted the lack of speakers in the team, sorted and commanding centre half and added goals to the team that were lacking... most of all sorted the lack of energy in the midfield.

We’ve actually spent a fair bit of money as well which seemed unthinkable weeks ago!

Should be a far far better season that last (not that it’s hard to achieve!)

That Cullen one is that Unofficial Vale Twitter account talking bollocks again. Cullen accepted a new contract from Blackpool last month which should have been the clue for them.

Hoping we see some outgoings now, no reason to keep the likes of Barnett around.

Looks like the rumour of the L2 striker due to sign for us is Forte. Whether it happens to be true is another thing. Would be happy enough. Notts fans, if this happened would he be a good signing?

Someone’s now posted on Exeweb saying that Stockley is off. Now that would be gutting and season ruining even if we did net a big fee.

With Miller I don’t see the point in spending big on someone like that, assume Turner and Angus go on loan, someone like Oswell makes more sense to challenge Pope and Miller as nice as having all the armoury in the inventory established scorers would want to start.

Get a winger in to feed the Pontiff, with Miller the predators to pick up the pieces and we will have enough to cause problems.

I love Jonny Forte - when he was with us on loan a few years ago in League One he was unreal as a lone striker. Quick, strong, clever and can finish. Not quite the same this time around but still scores goals.

There’s a couple of doubts with him. The first is injuries - he picks up a lot of niggles that keep him out for two or three games, more than is really reasonable. The second is that there must be some reason why a striker with his ability has never really had a consistent run of games and goals anywhere. Part of it was the ridiculous contract he was on at Southampton that he was understandably reluctant to walk away from, but there must be something else. Nolan never really fancied him and he’s far from the first manager. His performance definitely seems to up when he goes out on loan or his contract is due to expire as well.

Cheers. Yeah I remember him destroying Charlton when on loan at your place years ago.

You’re right, there must be a good reason why someone with his undoubtedly ability is playing in L2. Will see what happens and if he does sign here I’m sure he will be welcomed. My reservation would be his age and potential injury niggles but if he partnered up with Stockley and got 10-12 goals it’s an improvement on what we had supporting Jayden last season.

Scored a perfect hat trick that day in the first half. Did have Alan Judge supplying him, which helped!

I think Forte would get 20 goals plus in this league quite comfortably if he managed to stay fit and interested for a season, but his career shows that it’s a very big if.

His time at Southampton ended up being both a blessing a curse, I think. Signed in League One and clauses in his contract meant he was suddenly on £20k a week or something mad when they got to the Premiership in a couple of seasons, which presumably has him set financially for life. But it also meant that he spent the best years of his career meandering between loan spells rather than as a top striker in League One or even the Championship.

Apparently, Brown is after Jaime Devitt from Carlisle. Never heard of him but it’s carrying on the slightly worrying trend of the Tanned One only being interested in players he’s worked with before.

I think Dan, may be wrong , often am. Devitt was a shining light at Morecambe and was quite in demand, not sure how he has gone on at Carlisle, everyone seems to be jumping ship there.

We've had him on loan twice. Once in this division the season we went down and he was our best player by a mile. Almost came in and saved us when we looked doomed. We also had him on loan in the Conference and we all thought he was gonna be class, but he looked sluggish and off the pace. That was before he went to Morecambe though. I think he got the most assists in the division (I wanna say 17?) there, the season before he went to Carlisle. I get the impression he did okay at Carlisle but wasn't special and wasn't a nailed on starter for most of his time there, I could be wrong about that though.
