That's because it's not, by all accounts it's around 170k IF HE SIGNS. Would be surprised if we even paid that tbh. Our transfer record is still 75k from about a hundred years ago, Tony Battersby?
And Dean Walling both in the late 90s.
Love to know where fans have got the 400k fee bit like Evans saying we paid that for Bostwick last season when in reality it was a fraction of that.
IF Akinde does indeed sign for us it will be a club record fee but like 150-200k as suggested by imp in branston.
Yes its a risk but isn't every signing?
I'm sure some fans moaning for us about to spend have encouraged their club to do this.

But he only scored 7 last season and didn't look the same player as the previous years.

That said, I'm not one who thinks it's cut and dried that his ankle injury has taken the edge off him. It might have, but then a lack of pre-season last year and a further injury that saw him only start his first game in November could also have disrupted him.

It's a gamble but if he does get back to the player he was then there's 20 goals straightaway.
We have a very good medical team at the club who got more games out of a player in one season than he played in the previous 3/4 seasons.
Knew he'd had a few problems with injury last season but played well against us last season and scored a decent goal too.
Our manager was seen having a chat with him then...

I would say spending money on Akinde is a risk worth taking, I’m sure most of us if offered Akinde for our teams would take him, I know I would anyway.

The fee for Akinde will match Hemmings and Dennis combined in all likely hood.

Looks like we’ve done a belter binning off Hemings and getting someone much better for less wages. That’s a bonus

Not for £400k when he’s been injury prone

Mansfield binned him off? You know that for certain Adam?

What’s Davies wage? Whatever it is , it’s another solid signing from the Handbrake, when he’s in the mood supposedly

£100,000-£150,000 would be enough to gamble on him. If he gets promoted with Lincoln, or anyone for that matter, he’d need to be binned in L1.

No one is paying £400k for Akinde, as much as I wish they were. Player in last year of contract, summer window, an injury hit season last time out and a team now in the National League. It might come to that with add-ons but then Lincoln would have gained through that.

If Akinde is back to his best then he's the best striker at this level so worth every penny. The idea he's a donkey or not that good is laughable

Length of contract until that's sorted no....
Seen on your board that you've put that the club only want to give 2 years and he wants 3. Don't understand that at all. If you are going to pay a decent fee for him, why would you want him in the last year of his contract next year? Unless you are offering 2 with an option of a third weighted in the clubs favour.

Can’t agree he’s the best striker in L2. He is way behind the strikers at the promoted clubs last season and I’d rate Stockley, Eisa, Doidge ahead of him. And that’s not taking into account who other clubs may sign before kick off

Not sure about that. You've binned off a 26 year old 1 in every 2 1/2 game striker for a 32 year old 1 in 3 1/2 game striker for I would imagine not dissimilar wages.

Mansfield fans pretending they didn't want Hemmings to sign.... Feel like we have been here before.

All about opinions, although I'm curious how a Swindon fan has seen enough games involving Akinde, Stockley, Eisa and Doidge to come to that opinion.

Mine is based on seeing Gary Bull, Mark Carter, Dougie Freedman, Sean Devine and Izale McLeod at this level and Akinde stands alongside them.

But like I say, all about opinions

Yep, I think the season before he was in with a shout but those listed are definitely better at the moment. Eisa for me is the best in the division. Is he gonna be staying at Cheltenham or is there much interest? I haven't heard much.

Don’t think Akinde is the best player out of that lot but he’s definitely a better goal scorer. I’d have him over Doidge and Eisa I think.

Does Akinde fit into the new and improved Total Cowley Football?

He’s a one club man. Done nothing at any other club. Would have thought in the time he’s been around someone a bit higher up the food chain would have taken a punt. Something has put off other clubs signing him - especially before last season when he had a good scoring return. Signing him after an injury prone, low scoring season is a risk if you are paying a decent fee plus wages.

Meanwhile, in a rumour that doesn't concern Mansfield, Lincoln or Notts County......
