Darius Charles has signed for Burton Albion.

Disappointed to lose him, we'll miss his versatility, whilst he did a job at both left back and up top he was never consistant enough to nail down a regular place in either position. He was his most impressive at centre back, he was incredibly solid there last season prior to his injury and formed a decent partnership with Dean Wells.

Hope he does well, he joins an ever growing list of ex-Boro players at Burton.

Why's that then? Perfect fit for what we need up top at the moment. Please, correct me Sir Kenny if I have fallen foul to your superior knowledge.

Marc Richards is a much better player than Reuben Reid. Richards is probably the best all round forward in League 2 as it stands. It's a challenge to think of another who's as good.

I think that unless you manage to unlock his lost potential, you'll find Berrett to be somewhat of a frustration. He has talent, but basically isn't interested in doing any midfield work whatsoever... actually his poor disciplinary record is due to the fact that being played in midfield means he occasionally is called upon to make a tackle, and can't tackle for shit, he's purely there for scoring goals, nothing else. He has a good shot on him, but isn't deadly enough, or good enough at holding the ball up or positioning to be a striker. He was good for us when we had a good midfield around him and could just leave him forward, he was a 10-goal-a-season midfielder, but was soon exposed as a one-trick-pony when we started to struggle and needed every player to put in a complete performance.
our fans have been crying out for a more attacking midfielder to play in a three with russ penn and luke summerfield so, with yourself saying that he is purely there for scoring goals, he might do a job for us. we are severely hamstrung with some of worthington's recruits from last summer on big deals who are a waste of oxygen, so that is hindering us this summer. however, for once, our fans seem relatively upbeat with this signing.

Between Rico and Cureton I would say. Considering Curetons age the fact he still bangs them in is impressive. But then Rico missed 2 months of last season and still nearly finished top goalscorer. Both better than Reid though.

You've got to be the most boring, pedantic chap on the forum. Just saying like.

I have a reputation to live up to

We're considering signing Belgian international Gill Swerts. Lol.

Everything that's been stated is music to my ears. For the last two years we have needed a technically competent midfield that had the ability to push forward and score goals. We don't need another workhorse who breaks up play, we already have those players.

Cureton scores because he is clever. Living proof that you dont need to be built like a brick shithouse or lightning quick to be a top quality striker. If you watch Curo you will see that he gambles on everything and knows what positions to take up way before everyone else. He's also amazing at peeling off his man. Easily the cleverest striker I'e ever seen.

It's posts like this that make me really miss league one. :(

We've signed Marc Laird on a one year deal from Tranmere, a player Sturrock worked with at Southend so hopefully he knows how to get the best out of him. Also adds experience which we were seriously lacking last season.

Well I saw Marc Richards play twice this season and I didn't even know he was on the pitch. His goalscoring record was good last season, however, I don't see anything else to his game. Also doesn't score against the big teams.

Yet still managed 18 in 26 starts

True but give me Matt Tubbs all day long as the no.1 striker in this league.

Depends what you mean by 'striker', Spencer for us is a much better all-round striker than someone like Tubbs or Richards, but won't be quite as prolific.

Yeovil sign Ben Tozer on a one year deal.

Depends where they play him but I reckon he could be a good signing. Would suit centre back I think, tall, good tackler and okay on the ball and that's where he originally played for us. Suffered from being moved around a lot under Gary Johnson and since then never found a proper position. Can play DM, CM, RB, LB and CB but was never good enough to nail down a position for good. Give him a settled position and I think he'll be a solid player for you.

Funny you should mention him. Rumours that won't go away say he might come back to us. No idea where they originate but plausible. We matched the deal Pompey offered him in January apparently. Depends how they want to play this season but Cook prefers a lone striker from what I remember, and that's definitely not a role for Tubbs.

He ended the 13/14 season scoring 4 in 6. He'll score goals at this level, just not 20+ - he's worth more than goals though, Craig Westcarr scores goals but there's a reason why he constantly gets offloaded.

Also, plenty of people have heard of Spencer, especially in League 1 - hence why he had other offers from League 1 clubs last summer. That's merely showing up the fact you don't have a particularly good knowledge of lower league football.

Don't be that guy.

I have never seen Reid have a good game anywhere if he's the best player in League 2 then I'm tee total.

Sure fire way to get him scoring a hat trick at the mill but can only comment on what I've seen.

Spencer will score less than someone like Tubbs but get just as many assists as he does goals. A much better all round footballer.

I'll be that guy that says scoring only one league goal all season isn't as good as a player who scores 21. How many assists did Spencer get last season? If Spencer scored 21 and had fewer assists, you'd still be in league 1.

To be fair, I think Spencer was injured all season, then came back right at the end of the season. Could be wrong though.

He's shit anyway :animatedf:

Might have scored more if he wasn't injured nearly all season till April. Cheers.

Simon Walton has signed for Crawley.

Started to win me over towards the end of the season but not sure he justified the money he was likely to be earning. Good penalty taker though.
He won't be on huge wages with us.
We've also signed Joe McNerney from Woking - a centre half
