That leaves you with Douglas Bader, Oleg McNoleg and Heather Mills

John Rooney signed for Stockport. Can't say I'm too happy about that but no point in standing in his way, because he goes missing for months on end when he's not happy. Seems like he knows he's not up to League 2 standard.

Alan Nixon reporting that Barrow are close to signing Mike Jones. Solid experienced signing for a newly promoted team.

p.s can someone change this thread title to 2020/2021

He's read my post about it from a couple of weeks back.
(He also based his Luke James to Barrow story on a post in the Non-League forum...)

Hi Alan!

was thinking that. It’s actually good business getting a fee for a player who’s proven in the past that he isn’t quite L2 standard. Thought he might have wanted another crack at it but obviously not.

Maybe he will end up at Bolton in the January transfer window

If he's gonna do that, I can see him joining Bolton before the season starts - Stockport taking a cut of the fee to be a middle man.

You need Tranmere legend Lumpaldinho to get the best out of Reddy. He was the brains and the touch behind Reddy's only decent full season.

People say Steve Guinan's goal, or Shane Higgs' saves won us the playoff final in 2006 - it wasn't, it was Craig Armstrong breaking his nose on the back of Michael Reddy's head that did it.

Luke James to Barrow (from Hartlepool) has gone through.

Single-handedly kept us up two seasons ago, and always a player I hoped would come back. A good option for us, even if he's not much of a goalscorer.

Remember Luke James absolutely ripping us a new one in League 1 when he was 17. We were a good side then as well, pushing for promotion to the championship, but he absolutely annihilated us that afternoon. Honestly thought he was going to head up the leagues from then on.

From what I’ve seen since he hasn’t pushed on at all. Be interesting to see how he does back in the EFL.

Seemed to be set back by injuries, and before he joined us, he seemed to be having a crisis of confidence at Forest Green. He works so hard every game though, and if he can put it on a plate for our centre forward then I don't care if he doesn't get a goal next season.

Wouldn’t have minded keeping Jones for another year, but can understand why he was released as our manager wants a younger more energetic midfield.

really good player though, a perfect signing for a team largely inexperienced at this level. He’ll get a good reception on his return to Brunton (if fans are in)

Can't recall ever seeing him play, but a defensive midfielder is definitely what we needed and a bit of experience in our young squad too. Probably our new captain.

Ah, I watched that game but didn't realise that was him. Branthwaite was a class above everyone on the pitch that night.

Different class that lad, makes things look so easy. Watching him right now for Everton and he’s exactly the same, calm and composed. Incredible for one so young.

Has he played in the EFL as well? The players we signed from the Scottish championship last summer struggled badly.

Pretty pleased with tonight's business overall - feels like we've covered some of the holes in our side, and we know there will be some kids coming in on loan too. Obviously we're now on the hunt for a playmaker now...

As Monkey Tennis says, pleased with the business overall. Where an outsider looking in would say Rooney is a massive loss, it seems a shrewd move to get a decent fee for someone who doesn't fancy the task.

Good luck to him, decent fella, will run for days but just isn’t a goal threat, glad he left us.

Signed Jamille Matt, ex-Newport County, on a one year deal. This will please most Rovers fans as we haven't really had a forward who looked like scoring that often since Christian Doidge left.

You've never really replaced Rhys Murphy's 60 goals a season.

Our DOF Martin Ling said today that we will be working with a 24/25 man squad this season, which includes a few youngsters.

We currently have 22 first team pros, Ling said we're looking to sign a targetman striker and a Centre half who can ideally play as a full back as well.

He also said that Ruel Sotiriou didn't report back for training with us because he hasn't signed a new long term contract, he is only 19 and we will be entitled to compensation for him. The door is open for him to sign with us Ling said, but it seems unlikely. His agent apparently has strong links to QPR - So alot of people think he will end up there. No bids or offers for him yet it seems.

Looks like he'll be off, which is a shame because he has alot of potential and is very talented. But we've done this before, we don't bend over backwards to keep youngsters who've only played well for a a third of a season and start making certain demands. Good Luck to him if he ends up playing higher.

One less target for ourselves then, heard we was certainly looking at him because we need a targetman type striker.

Hahaha yes that and John Fenty and Russell Slade attempting to and failing to negotiate his contract for the next season. That was our Ronaldo France '98 moment that final.
