If he is so good why did you let him go?

I've always thought he was pretty good but not sure about belting....hope I'm wrong though.

Just sold Bez Lubala to Blackpool. Usual undisclosed fee. Those in the know will tell me its somewhere between £5k and £5million.

It does mean we have lost our two top scorers from last season and not replaced them. If Nadesan gets injured ( he was out for about two months last season) our forward line will be Hemel Hempsteads from last season! Not that I'm panicking you understand.:woot:

Casey

Due to pandemic club policy was to let everyone go who was out of contract, no exceptions. But it was rumoured that he wanted to go back down south anyway so unlikely he Would have stayed anyway.

I would say he was decent rather than belting. Works hard but not a goal scorer, and probably looked better than he was due to poor competition for us in that area.

Thing called Coronavirus messed up the finances a little!

If our POTS was voted for in Jan, Hess would’ve won it. Unfortunately he was assaulted by Simeon Jackson on the pitch and missed the rest of the season, coupled with Vernam being ace afterwards.

I always remember Crawley being a pain in the arse to play against and he’ll make it harder, a very good ball winning midfielder in this division and a player that the majority of our fan base are gutted to see go.

We look to be adding another to the ex-Bradford club and probably signing Sean Scannell very soon. Bantams, I assume he is finished?
Ugghhhhhh, I really REALLY don't want us to sign Scannell. We can do better than him, surely?
Jake Hessenthaler has signed for Crawley, belting signing for them

Quality signing. Good enough to be in a promotion winning side in this division. Was gutted we didn't hang onto him somehow. Will run through brick walls for you. Shame he never really had that much quality alongside him. You'll love him, I'm sure. Out of the players we let go this summer, he's the one I'm most disappointed about.

Scannell, must have been decent at some point but definitely wasn’t when he was with us, the odd good thing now and again like most but not quick, not known for great crosses or for being full of tricks either. Not great when he’s costing a small fortune every week. There’s a lot worse out there but not surprised he hasn’t got anyone in L1.

It's fucking frustrating as our line all summer has been, "we can't afford to offer Charlie Vernam or Billy Clarke deals right now, we can't afford to offer Hessenthaler a deal"...then one week before the season starts we go in for Scannell. He isn't gonna be on significantly less than the deal Vernam was on last season, which is all we had to match to trigger the option of his additional year.

Brentford, Watkins and Dean Smith all seem to have come to an agreement, although the figure looks like it's going to be undisclosed

Either way, at least we should be getting our windfall before the season starts and it gives Taylor a chance to invest in some decent strikers.

Clearly lots of talent still out there at this level, with us signing Lewis Page just yesterday.

Edit: It's now being reported that Spurs are interested. Ffs, just give us our money!

I feel a bit for Grimsby fans, from having signed off their biggest L2 budget to cutting it by up to a million. Fair play for being so prudent though.

If we dont get fans back in stadia or a second wave hits it will prove to be a great way of doing business

Has Doyle scored in any of the decent friendlies you’ve played - not against the Dog and Duck. I know you’ve been tonked in your last 2.

Need more than your £4m to take them away have you not heard we are paying Doyle £20k a week on a three year deal

If there’s one thing I will give our board credit for it’s the fact they do seem to look after the finances pretty well. We’re one of the few clubs to turn a profit but as a result we haven’t really pushed on. I think once we get through this and we get the income back it could be an absolute masterstroke.

It does have its downfalls though, the decision on Vernam looked poor then but it looks absolutely appalling now.

Scored in all other games

Only a penalty against Accrington.
Pretty sure he played against Loughborough University (lol) and didn't score (Despite you winning 6-0?!)
Credit where credit is due, he scored one out of the 7 you scored against..Bamber Bridge...
Just one goal against Atherton Collieries.

I mean it's hardly an impressive record, is it?

And for that reason I'm out. Imagine spunking 20k a week on L2 players.... yikes.

Doyle scored 3 in less than 250 mins which is a goal a game

Bamber Bridge, Loughborough University (no goal) & Atherton Collieries + a penalty against Stanley.

3 goals, one being a penalty, in those 4 fixtures isn't impressive at all

To be a pedant, he's played more games in L1/L2 than the PL/Champ, albeit spent more seasons in the latter.

Scannell is actually signing, I’ll hold my judgement on that one. Can’t for the life of me work out how we’re affording him.

Seems like we’re affording the bigger budget players (Williams, Rose, Scannell) by offsetting them with the 3-4 cheap non-league lads. It’s a big gamble. Got to be honest, on Monday morning I thought we were fucked, 3 unproven part-time lads, a ticking time bomb of a CB and only one proven but injury-prone signing, all while having played only one pre-season friendly against Cleethorpes(!). The signing of Rose has given me a massive boost though, would be nice to finally get a left-back and another decent midfielder in.

Think Grimsby will do very well this season. Those are some big names right there.

I think Doyle will do well at Bolton as well but they are paying over the odds and if the rest of the team aren't up to it Doyle wont single handedly carry them.
