Seems like we’re affording the bigger budget players (Williams, Rose, Scannell) by offsetting them with the 3-4 cheap non-league lads. It’s a big gamble. Got to be honest, on Monday morning I thought we were fucked, 3 unproven part-time lads, a ticking time bomb of a CB and only one proven but injury-prone signing, all while having played only one pre-season friendly against Cleethorpes(!). The signing of Rose has given me a massive boost though, would be nice to finally get a left-back and another decent midfielder in.
I’m still not overly confident. Hanson and Green up top simply isn’t going to be enough if the Non League guys don’t step up. We’ve got some injury prone players and if 1-2 of them get injured we look VERY weak. If we’re looking at building a small squad it’s one heck of a risk bringing in injury prone players.

We need a LB and probably one utility player now. I’d like to see us dip into the loan market for those.

It is surprising seeing those sort of names considering how much the budget is supposed to be cut, even with the non-league / cheap players making up the numbers too

I imagine the 2 year deals and the ‘Holloway affect’ have a lot to do with it

Part of me wants Hope to be given a run in the side right from the off at LB. Do you know if this Danny Preston loan signing is supposed to be coming off?

I kind of suspect the non-league guys have been brought in as a sort of scatter gun method. Sign three non-league cheap forwards and if one of them bangs in 15+ goals then it doesn't really matter if the other two are shite.

I'm not sure about Rose, but I doubt Williams is breaking the bank. We offloaded a lot in the summer remember, too. Scannell is the one that sets alarm bells ringing for me.

Although it's worth noting that our new signings all allegedly have the clause that means they aren't getting paid if the season is cancelled. If that's true and real, I have mixed feelings on that. Essentially, it points towards the fact that the numbers have almost certainly been crunched and our budget is dictated by an actual plan...on the other hand, it's shitty as fuck and unethical from the players' perspectives.

Tarzan is definitely in the know as he’s called a few things in the past before they were in the public domain....
Snoop is extremely reliable, and this was then backed up by Martin Lawrence, one of the most reliable ITK posters Exeweb has.

Heard he refused to put his phone down during the filming of one of the scenes in the latest Bad Boys film because he was checking his Exeter sites.

Think it’s a fair point, we have lost 3-4 key players from last season but I think Glennon and Benson were inevitable. The forward does definitely look weaker but I feel the midfield is stronger. I agree that relying on the non-league and youth guys is very risky, so I’m interested to who else he brings in.

I would love the youths to find a place in the first XI but I guess generally they are blooded in gradually through the season. And it looks pretty likely Preston will sign but there’ll be a lot of pressure on him to 1. actually defend and 2. live up to Ballon D’or nominee Glennon.
I think the fact Scannell has been on trial eases me a bit because then he’s not the one giving demands. From what other fans have said, he may not be brilliant but he probably won’t be dogshit, which is what we need this season.
COVID clause is classic Fenty scrimping haha.

Bet it took us even longer than usual to get the season ticket prices sorted because Fenty was adding a no refund clause into the small print...

Rumours that Harry McKirdy is training with us.

Not sure he would fit in though with Askey's requirements on players character mind!

Gyliano Van Velsin released by mutual consent by Crawley.

Worth £2.5 million on football manager a couple of years back. If he gets a side in the National league I'd be surprised.

Martin replied to a question about what the money was to be used for. He made no comment about whether the amount quoted was right or not.

Keep trying, travvy.

So you're denying the fact he jumped in on a conversation about where the 800k was going to be spent on, and claimed said money is going towards deferred wages? Alright fella, whatever you say... Snoop has also confirmed the 800k again, just 16 minutes ago buddy.

Given his track record of being reliable and with Martin Lawrence then saying the 800k is mainly going towards deferred wages. I'll take that over you :2thumb:

Wrote this earlier, could’ve added a patchy injury record but could say that for many.
“Scannell, must have been decent at some point but definitely wasn’t when he was with us, the odd good thing now and again like most but not quick, not known for great crosses or for being full of tricks either. Not great when he’s costing a small fortune every week. There’s a lot worse out there but not surprised he hasn’t got anyone in L1.”

We're not talking about Ollie Watkins mate, keep up.

Just another big money move from another one of our youngsters. Plenty more in the making too.
Good that is how you will survive and prosper....young lad at chelsea will get you a few bob eventually but that is all Exeter will ever be...Its a great business model in all fairness.

Well we could, if we got relegated 3 times and were playing way below where we should be.
Your Grandad watched you in Division 4 Your dad likewise. You may have watched the odd Division three game and your Son watched you in non league.......steady away but all in all pretty shit

What are you on about?
It means you only ever played in the bottom two leagues in 100 years. A short spell out of the league in 1990s.....pretty shitty history.
Another fact Bolton paid for your St James park to be bought.......you have that in common With Barrow
We have paid for them to have a roof on one of there stands this season.......very giving club Bolton

You have no idea of what real shit football is. My first season of watching Crawley we finished second bottom of the Southern League Division 1 (south) against such luminaries as Ashford Town (Kent) and Canterbury City. It was only four seasons later that I got a bit of success when we were promoted from that league in second place behind those mega stars of R.S. Southampton. We were promoted to a division that contained Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town (iirc)

Still miss some of that crap though.
