Based on fact. Owners said publicly budget lower. Last year it was around 10th highest so significantly under performed

Things have got worse since, as the Prem league delaying moneys filtering down as they worry that the fall out from Man City case will reduce their liquidity. Those clubs who have budgeted for this money will be in trouble if/when it doesn’t arrive
Fair enough, I haven't kept up to date with all the interviews, articles, etc that the owners are in so probably missed them specifically stating that.

To be fair even when you do read them it's easy to miss that sort of information amongst Jason Stockwoods reminiscances about growing up in a council house.

It wasn’t Jason Stockwood, it was The Chairman Andrew Pettit

Joel Senior and Connor Barrett the latest rumours our end don't know much about either tbh.

Both are right backs, Senior played for us last season and is pretty decent for this level and was player of the season for Morecambe this year.

Barrett is a young well thought of National league full back who plays for AFC Fylde.

Thanks mate both make sense as we've let both of last seasons wing backs go.

They are already in meltdown over on The Fishy and Twitter 'cluster f*ck ' and a terrible transfer window already according to some, might just as well give up now .

I suspect we already have a few signed up , have been rejected by some and are just in the same situation as most other clubs .

I didn't get the impression the budget was going to be cut dramatically , didn't Stockwood say it would be an improvement on last season but that like all other clubs at this level the finances are terrible and they would have to make up a decent shortfall once more (I think they referened the regulator not yet implemented and Efl deal as not being helpful) .

I think we are waiting to see who stars in the Euros before we swoop.
Our fans are way too twitchy, in the promotion season we didn't sign anyone until well into June and don't usually.

I get the burnt of late failures in August and January but still 3 months of the window left nearly... I would expect things to start happening this week (aside from Curtis who's in the dooor)

Yeah same with us. We announced our first signings on 14th June last pre-season and they were praised as inctedibly early signings for us. I think people are just being spooked by the fact that the likes of Gillingham and Chesterfield are swinging their big money dicks around and getting things done early.

Stockport County.
Isn't Grimsby's drop in budget more likely down to not having the Cup run money this summer?

Really surprised to see cheltenham have given Harry Pell a 2 year deal. Imo has nothing left to offer football wise. Is a bit of a circus side show.

We've deposed Cameron as captain and given it to Langstaff, which suggests he's going nowhere. Think this summer was the last realistic one he'd get a big move so will probably see out his long contract, could easily end up our all-time leading scorer.

Good to see that Maynard is taking notice of some of our suggestions on here hehe.

Our on going ability to keep hold of our best players is becoming quite the habit. Let’s hope it continues.

It's an interesting choice from all parties. If a desperate Championship team comes in with an August 31st offer of around £1m, would the owners really turn it down? And would he turn down the opportunity to potentially double or triple his wages and play 2 leagues higher?

And I also think giving it to a striker is always a poor decision Should be a CM or CB every time, unless an obvious candidate in another spot deserves it. I also don't know Langstaff, but giving it to your top scorer, likely as an incentive for him to stay, also feels like a strange choice. He's never struck me as captain material but I could be wrong.

What's the thinking behind it needing to be a CM or CB? I think you get more "captain material" players in those positions but I don't think it makes that much difference during the 90 minutes.

I'm not sure Langstaff is everything I would want out of a captain but I don't think we have that kind of player in the squad at the moment, so picking a player who (presumably) commands respect amongst the players and will be playing every game makes sense. If someone comes in with serious money and he wants to leave then you cross that bridge when you come to it, I would think that whoever represents him will have done due diligence on how likely that is before he's agreed to take it on.

He's been our de-facto vice captain for the last two seasons, had the armband every time Cameron has been unavailable. Having decided to change it, he was always going to be next in line.

Definitely a strange choice from the outside looking in. Stinks of the club running out of options to convince him to stay so now they’ve thrown the armband his way.

Don’t really think it would make much of a difference in his decision making should a top end league 1 / championship club come sniffing round him mind.

Sad to see such a proud old club as Nottingham County whoring out their prestigious captains armband in a transparent desperate attempt to force want-away striker Matthew Longshanks to stay.

The budget is up from 2 seasons ago but significantly down on last season. As mentioned by Stockport fan on this page, last season GTFC had the benefit of FA cup run money etc but, frankly, pissed it up the wall.

If last season’s budget was about 10th in the division, I do worry that this seasons significant cut, will leave Grimsby with a budget in the bottom 6 or 8 so spending it wisely is the key otherwise can see them circling the drain yet again
