Any Fleetwood fans on here?

We've just signed Armando Junior Quitirna from them. Played 24 times last season. Just wondering what he is like?

Sounds like a good option/backup/competition to Nemane. Makes sense.

We appear to have adopting a more sensible approach this season but don't want to become dull. We need to entertain the fans so fast attacking wing back who is dodgy at defending fits the bill in our system.
Madness that your continuing with your ‘let’s play wingers who can’t defend as wingbacks, push them high up the pitch and constantly concede five goals and wonder why’ tactic.

Not quite yet.

That's still to be confirmed to be the case but I'm sure Stocky will already know that answer before Notts fans.

We've had a season as L2 entertainers so I certainly hope we change or at the very least effectively adapt our approach.

a) dont be boring

b) we’re trying a radical new evolution on our patented chaos theory this season which involves playing actual centre-backs at centre-back, not full backs across the back 3, which I think will help. Nemane and Jones are only wing backs in name anyway, makes me laugh when people talk about Jones playing ‘further up the pitch’ - he got 20+ assists last season precisely because our wide players are the furthest players up the pitch.

Yeah I never viewed them as wing backs in either match we played against you last season, don't recall them ever defending. Just seemed to be three CBs and then a load of players piling forward, even Palmer and Bostock getting right up there regularly. Proper playground stuff. Must be some concerns that getting more established L2 defenders in isn't actually going to change much if the system remains the same?

I think we will be much closer to having two genuine holding midfielders sat in front of the back three this season. I don’t think we should change the ‘wing backs’, they’re our big threat really and very few teams worked out how to defend against them effectively, but we need to find the structure in the rest of the team to cover for them.

Maynard did try and change some of this stuff when he first came in but the defence was so traumatised by that point we were just conceding loads whatever we did and after a while he gave up and reverted to trying to win 4-3 every game, but with a summer to work on it and a new defence hopefully it’ll change.

I'd love to bang Notts in the top three prediction-wise, but I'm unsure of that Maynard fella.
They're the interesting ones of the division for me. I think their manager will be the difference either good or bad. Remember our last relegation season in league 1? We signed the likes of Payne, Doyle and O'Brien who would have walked into any club in that division, and went through a patch where we looked lie world beaters. Ultimately we ended bottom which was crazy for that team, I put it down to the shambles of a coaching set up we had at the start of the season thanks to that fat charlatan.

Any thoughts on Omari Patrick, Sutton fans? He’s been training with Rovers and played as a trialist in the Preston friendly. We were interested in him during his spell at Carlisle, but didn’t seem to make much impact with you?

He’s a talented player. Never really worked out with us. He came across the season it went very wrong. We had a team previously who all knew their roles and worked damn hard. The manager tried to move away from that I think and get more perhaps talented players in but we lost what we had in terms of solidarity and being hard to play/score against. His highlight was opening day against Notts. I think capable of doing well in the right set up and given licence to not really defend/work too far back.

Lee Angol still in the EFL is astonishing fair play to his agent definitely earning his cut.

Omari Patrick is a good L2 signing in the right set up.

Old school head it and kick it merchant. Likes to engage in the “dark arts” just not someone you’d want to have the ball at his feet too much (see the first goal we conceded at home to Lincoln for an example).

Heard anything about him coming to us? Someone on our message board seems to think he’s heading our way.

He is our longest serving player, almost testimonial and been part of the furniture now since 2016, local and loved, always been decent in League Two but last year again demonstrated that he isn't probably League One level, maybe the captaincy weighed on him but if we come up we probably need better to avoid struggling defensively again.

If he goes though leaves with fond memories.

His big asset is he is a huge s**thouse, pinches attackers and does all that kind of stuff which has had about 5-6 players sent off for reacting and 2-3 retrospectively banned!

someone posted on our forum yesterday saying there was a pub rumour that he had gone to cambridge for a medical.

he has had great seasons, and awful seasons. The great ones are all in league two and the awful ones are all in league one. on one hand he's our longest serving player and more than good enough for league two, on the other, he gets played for his defensive ability even when we have managers who want to pass it out from the back.

2 years ago id have been gutted to lose him, now i am at the stage where i think he is replaceable and should we manage to bounce straight back, we'd need better.

on the flipside to gibbo, smith has barely missed a game for us over the 8 or so years he has been in the team.

He is fast. Trouble is, he literally has no control of the ball when running, we often saw him run the ball out of play.

He scored a cracking goal for us in one match, did nothing whatsoever in the other games.

I would say National League is his level at best

Our CB Jobe has done his ACL so we need a stop gap during his recovery so maybe Smith might be that player.

he needs the right partner next to him to cover his weaknesses, if you leave him to just do the dirty work defensively, he's a good player

Declan Drysdale returns to Rovers on a one year deal. Defensive cover is needed and doubt he’ll be more than a squad player initially.

Probably backs up your point, but he was brilliant for us in the National League - a real handful.

Signed Jack Hinchy, released Brighton under 21s captain. Central midfielder who played a few games on loan at Shrewsbury last season, obviously no idea but right kind of profile to cover our three more senior midfielders and hopefully develop.

Was very highly thought of as a youngster with us (hence why Brighton poached him)

Bowman finally confirmed.

We've also signed centre-back Levi Laing on loan from West Ham. Oddly, he's not played for either Newport or Torquay before.
