Do Carlisle still run a full academy set-up? Used to take loads of kids from around Furness and West Cumbria. I think our old manager, Darren Edmondson, was academy boss until quite recently.

Yeah we do still run a full academy set up. Some decent players have come out of it in recent years, we sold one to Everton in January for 750k + add ons, he’s already in their first team squad.

Quite a few more have signed first team contracts for next season. It’ll be vital for us if we do indeed go part time.

Can't for the life of me see him move to a League One club given his injuries, and he does have Scottish heritage. So he'll either be in League Two or the SPL next season.

Agree with that, always a bit worrying for me when a defender is top scorer, kind of suggests that our forwards aren't cutting the mustard. I can't see why he wouldn't, and I won't blame him if he does, want to move to a Division One club. However, I would add that no player is irreplaceable and with a likely glut of players looking for a team if clubs go for smaller squads, we probably won't have much difficulty filling his boots if he does leave. You could argue that this has already happened with the signing of Chris Stokes, unless of course he is seen as being more of a central defender...where he did perform well after signing for us.

Not too sure we were in the same league for spending as the others you mention.
When we were taken over by Tony Stewart in 2008 he put us into Admin for the second time and we were given a 17 point deduction.
Mark Robins did an amazing job to wipe the deduction out and we would have been in the play offs but for the deduction on 75 points but other than ALF we didn't spend much money, Nicky Law came in on a free from Sheffield Utd but most of the team were already here.

If you mean we spent a lot when Steve Evans was appointed, fair enough but that was 4 years later, how long do you want teams to wait before they can spend owt without feeling guilty?

I do agree with you about Bolton taking the piss though and it is upsetting for clubs that play by the rules.

Yeah, it could well be that - everyone has taken a 25% pay cut and we couldn't offer the extension to Vernam as well as that. It's been terribly handled however you look at it.

In the last 12 years, he has learned how to run a football club and we are now probably in the top 5 sustainable clubs in the EFL, maybe higher.

You are probably remembering we were favourites to go up in 2010 but lost 3 2 to the Daggers.
With the exception of Ryan Taylor we just didn't turn up on the day and got what we deserved TBH.
