According to a rumour on our forum, George Tanner, a full back just been released by Manchester United, is joining us.

Morecambe(not so much Salford) fans, is he any good?

also Joe Riley (Ex Man United and Bradford) apparently signing.

feel like I’m saying this a lot but... Bradford fans? Opinions? Another shit one to add to our list of Bradford rejects?

Hard to weigh up Joe Riley really.

He has obviously got the pedigree from his days at Manchester United

Our bonkers ex co-owner Rahic pushed the boat out to sign him two years ago. He really struggled at the beginning of his first season under coach Michael Collins, and was eventually frozen out by David Hopkin when he became manager a few weeks into the new season. He had his best game for us in a pre season friendly last summer, before suffering a serious injury in the following pre season game. That's it, we never saw him again. I think he played about 6 games in the 2 years he was with us

Cheers for the info lads. Doesn’t sound promising but you never know, I suppose Omari Patrick didn’t do it for you but he’s looked good here so far. So I’ve got to hope we know what we’re doing.

Have you signed Elliott Watt yet? He’s really good, a bit slow for a young lad which is probably why he hasn’t made it at wolves, but really good passer and has an intelligent football brain. Sits in front of the back 4 and controls things with ease, also his set pieces are a real asset. Suited to a midfield 3, don’t think he’d be good in a 2.

Reported that we’re waiting for the window to officially open before announcing Watt. The journalist who covers us suggests it’s a perm deal but he’s still got a few years on his Wolves contract and I can’t see us paying a fee, unless it’s minimal with a whopping sell on percentage.

Danny Whitehead seems to be rumoured today for a move to Vale, worked with Askey at Macc and we are after a central midfielder to boost competition there.

I cannot believe a team just promoted to League One were going to pay that much for him. Madness.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him sign for us to be honest.

whoever wins the National League always has other teams sniffing round their players.
Cardiff and Hull are allegedly looking at our 2 wing backs if you believe twitter (which i don't usually).

I can’t believe Barrow have given him a 3 year deal tbh. Think he may struggle at L2 level unless come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of years.

Curle offering 150k for a barrow striker doesn’t surprise me to be honest. He’s the manager who convinced our board to pay actual money to them for Richie Bennett who turned out to be fucking shite.

to be honest he was a good NL striker and you ruined him - it will be interesting to see how he does at Stockport this coming season with John Rooney also there.

He was alright for us last term but fairly weak away from home. Scored a few and surprised we flogged him to County.

I don’t think we ruined him, he just wasn’t L2 standard, it was obvious from day 1. I couldn’t see a single attribute that made me think he had any possibility of making it.

Where you hear this? There's been no announcement by the club and can't find any news suggesting it.

Heard it from his own mouth in a podcast he was on. Said he’s turned down the contract offer and has left the club.

I originally thought "here we go, overspending again" when Bolton's signings of Doyle and Sarcevic were announced. But the lads from Cambridge and Colchester (and Matt Gilks as goalie cover/coach) do seem sensibly budgeted - the sort of signings that Dale might have been looking at if they were unfurloughed. Fair play.
We have to adhere to a strict embargo and the forthcoming Salary cap. So far we have signed four players on what from the outside look like good contracts, but the four they have replaced Hobbs,Lowe and the two Murphys we will have greatly reduced our outgoings and in my opinion we have vastly improved our team.

I'd be annoyed if Tanner went to you and we haven't attempted to get him back. I would have thought he would go to a league 1 club as he was linked to championship clubs in January. Not playing at all at Salford has probably ruined any chance of that happening. He looked really pissed off signing for them, as he didn't want to leave us, all down to United that though.

This is Carlisle United, keeping the fans informed is not a priority.

He talks about Carlisle near the end, 53 minutes onwards. Confirms he rejected the contract offer.

Interesting, though rejecting a contract offer doesn't necessarily mean he's leaving, he says he rejected it a month ago so would be a bit strange to go that long without the club announcing his departure; without anyone in the media realising he hadn't been a Carlisle player for a whole month or without being linked with a move to another club being a free agent. Still might be on his way out but I take from that maybe he's still in discussions over the offer and a line hasn't yet been drawn under his time at the club.

With CJ gone, I reckon JR will pretty much give the fee back to GC to spend.

I was not really expecting us to be using transfer fees this time round, but It’s very likely now.

I find it hard to believe Blackpool paid £300,000 for Hamilton, a L2 winger with a poor season behind him, but reckoned they only paid £200,000 for Yates, a L2 striker with 14 goals which helped his team get promoted.

They didn't have to negotiate with the Radfords for Yates though.

It’s probably closer to £250,000 to be fair. It’s the sell on that’s important. He was a free transfer and was not willing to commit to a new contract so it’s good business from Mansfield.

If we sold him before last season we were probably looking closer to half a million. But he’s still highly rated in the bottom two divisions, that sort of price is not surprising at all to me.

You are looking at it very short term too, Blackpool want to make money out of CJ. He’s practically got a 4 year deal.

‘Bottom two divisions’ are the important words there. Is Blackpool signing, almost exclusively, L2 players a good strategy to get out of L1.?

I dunno, but we were on about you finding it hard to believe the fee paid, which I don’t understand because it seems about right to me.

I‘ll guess he will do pretty well but it’s probably his limit too, Blackpool fans keep going on about him being ‘up and coming’ he’s nearly 26 - I doubt you will get the consistency in end product for him to go any higher for a decent period.

Brox got any idea why Paul Digby only made 17 appearances for Boro? Tactical reasons or injuries? Cheers.

I think That Fat Centre Half used to watch Boro as well when Luton had an away game. Did you get to watch the chap this season? Thanks.

Injury. Signed in the summer and got injured before the season started, didn't start for us until December. He did ok for us, was surrounded by crap which wouldn't have helped him. Wasn't overly disappointed to see him go but would have been happy to keep him also, was very much on the fence with him. It's difficult for me to be too enthusiastic about any of the squad from last year as we so poor, he's versatile, could cover multiple positions which is handy, particularly if you're running on a smaller squad size this season.
