Powell would be my number one choice for us, not that we'll make any contact with him at all, I wouldn't be surprised if we'd spoken to Adams actually (is he confirmed at yours yet?).

He won’t come in as manager to anyone as he has a business venture now, but is in discussions for a part time DOF role and been at both games since Brown left so assume that’s a done deal to be announced with the manager probably.

Nobody predicted Jack Lester's number two correctly it seems. Nicky Eaden.

Wonder how much debt Carson has piled onto Allen's ever increasing weight on his shoulders, given they've paid Forest compo, had to pay Branston off, and bring in a new backroom team?

I know Allen makes his money through the gambling industry, but they don't usually make massive gambles themselves.

I agree with Luke. Aspin doesnt exactly play attractive football and certainly has not set the world alight at Gateshead. In the FA Cup last year they were extremely poor against us in both ties with us eventually winning in ET because we wanted it more and we went on to finish 18th and conceded almost 100 last year..

Not the man I would want to keep me in the FL.
Yous weren't that great either just gateaheads poor form in fa cup past couple of seasons a bit like newcastles. Would like to vet yous again at least my trian fair would not cost much ha ha

Our chairman hasn’t stated who any candidate is, he has said who it isn’t in Askey, all he said was fans should get tickets for next weeks game and has three outstanding candidates in reply to a fan tweeting him telling him to hir3 the dream team of Adams and Aspo and that it would be a manager to restore pride.

Local press have leaked that Aspin is being targeted and some fans supposedly “in the know”

Aspin may have applied (chairman did say only applicants would be considered) and would offer him a FL job at a club close to his heart or approaches may have been made that aren’t being disclosed by the clubs potentially.

We have approached Accrington but Vale didn’t disclose that, their chairman tweeted it so for once we’ve actually kept it under tight wraps, usually we’d all have found out unofficially by now.

Aspin and Askey now ruled out if the local newspaper is to be believed. Ince now favourite according to some.

One win in eleven and still we persist with route one pub team football.

It can only get better.

Smurf says not Aspin, radio still think it might be... god knows! Total fucking mess, he needs to get this right. Ronnie Moore apparently there today... please no!

Is there any name that hasn't been linked with this job at this point? Ronnie Moore, Jesus wept.

Ince is not much better either, my main memory of his managerial career is that he was an utter disaster at Notts County (though I stand to be corrected by any Notts fan) and Blackburn, did ok at MK though had money to spend.

Problem comes that any decent manager is not going to work with an absolute nutcase of an owner.

Issue would be Allen and Smurf working together... two very outspoken and not always easy people.

A journalist has said we haven’t approached Gateshead, our press saying Aspin is one of the three targets Smurf mentioned and some fans supposedly in the know suggest contact has been made... so we will see.

Who the other two is anyone’s guess, Powell has been at the club last week one day apparently and would be ideal...

Will be an interesting few days anyhow. Whoever comes in has some work to do though, confidence is at the lowest and Brown has left us with a massive squad that’s got a lot of loanees. Have some very good players in Worrall and Denton to work with and some really decent kids coming through like Turner and Gibbons so isn’t a lost cause but if we are spending in January we need to offload because our squad size is ridiculous.

Also need to figure out how Lawrie Wilson went from decent promotion winner with Bolton to someone who looks like he’s never seen a football before and reverse spell that’s turned him shite!

If you have seen the film space jam where those basketball players lose there talents over night that's what looks like has happened to Lawrie Wilson and montano in the few games he has played.

Kieran Vale, Ince was terrible for us, he was the first real shocker we had had for a couple of years and fans couldn't wait for him to go.

It’s an odd one. Smurfs gone off on one on twitter again, there’s a story that players were told Aspin will be manager which one fan has quizzed him on.

This next week is massive... one that could not only save of FL status but our existence. He has to get this right. No Ravenelli gamble, no Ronnie Moore or Paul Ince... if costs more it will be less expense than relegation would be for the club.

Heard today Graham Westley in the frame for the Vale managers job.

If it is could do worse, not much worse mind. At least you can save the midfielders wages as you won't need them anymore.

As you’ll doubtless have seen today our midfield is non existent anyway! He gets the job it will kick off massively. The fans would boycott.

If your aim for this season now is just to not get relegated then Westley isn't too bad an option, though you wouldn't want to go into a new season with him.

Yesterday what you thought couldn’t get worse actually did. There has been rumours that the players didn’t want to play for Brown, Ned and Morgan but that seemed to be cured a bit when Brown went with two decentish performances under the latter two however yesterday by all reports we were worse than we’d been. Lack of effort, interest, our captain chucking the arm band when subbed, disorganised, Lawrie Wilson being... Lawrie Wilson.

Our fan base went through a long 2 year battle to rid ourselves of the previous cancer and it took a hell of a lot out of us in 2012 and the fan base seems to have given up this time and is too tired for another battle but sounds as though fans buckled yesterday and had a voice which cause a twitter backlash from the chairman who doesn’t seem to understand what this clubs means to the fans.

We need a tough manager to come in, a no nosence man who will sort the shocking attitude within the squad that seems apparent. Throw Lawrie Wilson in the stuffs until he actually starts producing, strip Anthony Kay of the captaincy for yesterday and sort the lack of motivation apparent in the squad. We have enough to stay up but needs coaching and organising and actually motivating to perform.

We’d have been better keeping Bruno’s foreign legion last year that this lot as it stands, even in our worst form we managed to beat Hartlepool 4-0 in the cup who are pretty much what we are now. Aside from Carlisle away we picked up for results against L2 sides in cups last year than we have in all our games this year!

To be honest and I don’t know if it’s true or not that they have been half-arsing it under Brown and co but if they were then they can all fuck off too as far as I’m concerned. Went through this whole thing with Gannon before and at that time I always felt the players got off lightly.

The more it goes on the more I’m convinced we are screwed. This squad is just not very good. If we fall a goal behind then it’s virtually certain we’ve lost as there is no threat at all and the defence is not much better. Doesn’t really add up to a successful team.

Kewell has had zero budget to work with while Cooper has an embarrassment of riches.

An embarrassment of riches lol. Not this season. Just look at our squad. We're clearly doing things on the cheap. Even cheaper now we've torn up the contracts of one of our highest earners. We aren't bottom by accident. Players aren't underperforming. This is as good as we can be.

FFP could be biting plus some rumours all isn't well at Ecotricity, unexpected redundancies fuelling that, plus the downscaling on the Eco Park plans.

We've been through all this last season. A chairman insisting on a style of play employing a novice puppet 'manager' undermined by his bestest mate who never actually made a pitch side appearance, gave any interviews and then, when it all went tits up, denied he had anything to do with the club.

It can be turned round, though. Power has turned into a recluse, employed an experienced manager at this level and let him get on with it. It's come at a price, though, as the football as a spectacle is fucking terrible at the moment.

Worrying to see such a gap at the bottom already, though. So Smurf needs to get this one right. Soon.

I talked to my sister this morning - she was made redundant in June. She thinks the company is having some big issues, but that Vince is paying too much attention to Forest Green, having taken his eyes off the company. I can't say this is 100% truthful, but my sister isn't the sort to spout bs for the sake of it, even when being made redundant.

Oh yeah, my sister used to get offered tickets, and by offered I mean she was given them and was obliged to attend. She saw it as work, especially considering she can't stand football.

I wouldn't know if that was still the case.

Despite the chairman's denial... Aspin now 1/16 with the meeting to decide apparently today to be announced in the next day or two.
