Bloody hell, his stock was through the roof not long ago.

Yes indeed. From the outside it looks like he was working to a pretty small budget and generally over-achieving before this season. Maybe he lost too many of his best players and couldn't replace them with enough quality? Rovers fans will no doubt know more.

Just read some reports - looks like he criticised the club over the weekend. Evidently didn't go down well.

Odd thing for Stoke to announce. What happens if he turns it down or a deal to release him from his contract isn't reached? I can only assume this is now at the formality stage and the announcement will be reached in the next couple of days.

I now eagerly await the bitter Luton fans who will:
State Stoke aren't even that big a club and this is a sideways move
Trash either Jones' reputation by calling him a snake or managerial ability by downplaying his achievements
Say Luton could be in the same division at Stoke if he stays for the rest of the season
Point out all the ways he will fail as Stoke boss

Come on Hatters fans, don't let me down.

On paper you'd stay at Luton, looking good for back to back promotions and hardly a small club. However being a lower league player and now manager this will probably sort him out for life, and if he fails he'll get another gig down in L1 or 2. Nothing to lose.

I will never believe a manager pumping his chest, kissing the badge, showing real passion is doing it genuinely again. I am gutted; truly gutted. I bought into this persona - was it all a front? Will he be doing it with his new fanbase on Saturday?

Did you in the first place? Football is a fickle sport.

He won’t see out 2019 at Stoke, it’s a massive step up and I can’t see him being able to handle all the egos at Stoke.

This is actually all very similar to Eddie Howe at Bournemouth in 2011. He left 3 days after announcing he was staying...

I was a fool. It all seemed absolutely genuine.
You'll learn, we all do eventually. If it makes you feel any better he'll probably be sacked by this time next year, unless he's a huge success of course.

Must be a sad day for luton fans, lets hope it doesn`t work out for him at the Bog Smashers and perhaps he won`t be gone too long, .

While Luke Berry as a character isn’t a “kiss the badge” type, the feeling you’ve got now is similar to what we had when he joined Luton. I sympathise with regards to Jones but there is a part of me which is pleased you are experiencing similar emotions.

We all bought into his persona which makes his departure hurt even more. Its not so much that he has gone to a bigger club in a higher division but its the manner of his departure. The supporters feel cheated with his statements about his long term future at our club. Yet within a day of the Stoke job being announced he's off. On a day when we find ourselves second in league one with a huge match upon us, a potential 4th round cup game at Chelsea and positive news about the move to Power Court.
Part of me wants to thank Jones for taking us this far but there is another part hopes he fails miserably at Stoke.
Have absolutely no idea who we can get in to replace him. Whoever it is doesn't need to change much. We have a style of play which suits the team. Perhaps a manager who's main asset is his ability to man manage.

Bit of momentum behind appointing First Team Coach Joaquin Gomez as next Luton manager. I think it would be a popular appointment with the fans if that's what the board end up doing.

It's probably the only way we can keep hold of Gomez as well because Jones is reportedly keen to take him to Stoke. So if we don't go with Gomez then we are suddenly looking at the only person still left at the club being the Assistant Steve Rutter who only came in a couple of months ago.

Sounds good to me and afterall it used to be the Luton way to promote from withing and a successful one at that.

I don’t see the big surprise personally, he’s done well and deserves the shot at Stoke, it’s a no brainer to go really.

It’s just a manager, Luton are still doing pretty well and have been on the ‘up’ for a few years now. It’s all about if you trust the board to appoint another decent manager I suppose.
