I thought Garners next step might be in the conference or back to teaching kids. Maybe he is just preempting the conference

Garner is deluded. Possibly the worst appointment that Colchester could have made. As others have said, he values possession stats over actually winning football matches, never credits the opposition and is full of every excuse under the sun. His interview after our playoff semi final was as pathetic as they come. He also completely sold out his team by assuming that the tie was won after the first leg. His own opinion of himself far exceeds his ability.

We have sacked Micky Mellon.

Gutted that it has ended this way, but the decision was probably inevitable. He is a good man and will go down as the second greatest manager in our history.

I will always be grateful to him for dragging us out of the Hell Hole that is the National League, and for back to back promotions which I will probably never see again.

What's happened to Tranmere? We played you just over a year ago and I think you were either 2nd or 3rd in the table. We snatched a last minute equaliser. You looked OK on the day and I kind of assumed you'd either get automatic promotion or at the least playoffs. Since then you've dropped right off and didn't even make the playoffs.

Thats Curle and Mellon sacked after losing to us, is there an unwritten law amongst L2 chairmen lose at home to newport county then you make sure the door don't hit you in the arse on the way out.

Last season was a disappointment. We had a squad capable of making at least the play-offs but after getting been thumped at home by Forest Green our season fell away.

The Palioi decided to switch to a development model, where we worked with academy cast-offs from other clubs higher up the pyramid with a view to improving them and selling them on. Whether this was something Mellon was aware of being in the pipeline when he re-joined or whether this was a complete change of tack from the Chair depends on who you listen to, I've no inside knowledge. Micky has always worked best with a central core of experienced pros. This coupled with a small squad, where injuries to key players have a greater negative impact have led to our current woes. Unlike many in this league, our owners aren't particularly wealthy and while they've attracted some Indonesian investment, not enough to reverse the downward trajectory. Without more investment or an astute next appointment we're lower L2 or worse for the foreseeable.

It’s often us Gills that seem to drive the final nail in opposition managers coffin over the years. “Can’t be losing to them” is the cry of fans and owners alike.

But they missed this one by a week.

Was Micky at Tranmere 7 years or more? Very long serving manager in the current climate. Wish him well. Where do you guys think he might go next?

Just under six years over his two spells. The longest serving manager we have had since John King in the nineties.

I think he will end up at one of the bigger National League clubs, although northern League Two clubs will probably also be interested. He is still a good manager and will have future successes.

Does seem like a complete waste of time, has to be Keith Hill right? All or nothing last throw of the dice?

Baffling timing. He should've gone ages ago. After Hartlepool completed a double over us.

Not sure you’ve understood what he’s saying there.
I understood alright.
Raj can get rid of more than 4 no matter who beats us.

I did not understand your manager last night, Subs.

Matthew Etherington, Graeme Murty and Brian Barry Murphy are the 3 names we are apparently looking at.

Seems like we are going down the young head coach route.

Apart from sentimental reasons and a slightly shorter commute, I think we're on a more positive trajectory than Tranmere at this moment in time.

Things can change quickly in football but at this moment, I think we're a better bet than Tranmere.

They should walk over hot coals to get him if they can though. Clint Hill is our assistant. Two defenders formed at Prenton Park.

Challinor applied when we appointed Mellon, which in hindsight would have been the better appointment.

As Stocky says, i dont see any reason why he would leave Stockport for us at the moment. Can see him being manager here one day, but not now.

BBM is a curates egg for me.
He got us playing some nice stuff at times and kept us up after Hill lost the plot a few years ago. We looked down and he put a great run of form in for us out of nowhere. He knew a good signing and how to develop younger players. But the season he took us down I lay the blame at his shite tactics. The squad we had was plenty good enough to stay up comfortably evidenced by the fact they pretty much all went on to bigger and better things.
We lost so many points from 2/3/4 nil leads and drew far too many games. And the possesion at all costs mantra drove me mad at times. Pissing around at tue bad, getting caught out and conceding. Getting 60%+ of the ball and often only having a solitary shot on target.
He also allegedly tried to shaft the club for money before he went to City's U23 team. Apparently asking to be paid off by us (not billionaire City paying us compo to break his contract). After we'd told him his job was safe despite relegation.

He's done well at City U23 but I'm not convinced that level sets you up to be a success in league football.

I'm pretty sure Artell applied for this job given he lives in Chester. The baggage from our disastrous 21-22 season must be incredibly large for him to not be considered for this role.

Are you disappointed with Jody Morris' sub 16% win ratio Don? Its not really worked out sadly has it? Reckon the club will give him time or put him out of his misery? I think there is a lot wrong behind the scenes, losing Chorley and getting Di Michele in has been a bit of a disaster.

Fear Artell would be another version of Keith Hill winding up the fans by having a go instead of getting them behind the team.

Maybe Casey or one of the other Crawley fans on here can give the low down on why Etherington only lasted 3 games there.

Not feeling inspired by any of the names flying around at present.

Took him three games to realise what a circus they are and thought "fuck this."

For all his faults, Artell would never be like that. He never criticised the fans when we were at rock bottom and rarely would during his time in charge here. The only time he would have a go is if he felt fans were being unfair towards certain players.

Artell would be far more likely to wind players up with mind boggling tactics and he wasn't a fan of being challenged by senior players too which never ends well. He was a massive control freak and I'm not sure any other Chairman would accept what we accepted as a result.

I hope he gets back in the game but being snubbed by a series of clubs now might be the eye opener he needs.
