Scumarmy is a must! Somebody must know him!
Thinking about Oaf's post earlier and it is like we have had to run for cover on some nearby planet after our world just ended. Scrolling round to make sure we all made it.
To be fair, the way it's turned out, it's like we were all planning for the end of the world, building our spaceships and deciding on a new planet to start a new life... and instead, God's just gone and said "fuck this, I'm ending it early" and hurled a meteor at us before we've even had a chance to scratch our balls.
In all of the time on TFF since the Smat stuff and the bannings, I've tried to stay supportive of the admin team there. Partly because I thought it was my job as a mod to support the admin team (or at least show support on the face of it) and partly because I do think that jobs like that, running a massive forum, are more difficult than they seem and I wanted to try and give credit where I thought it was due.
But I found my support waiving over the last few weeks, and after the sudden disappearance of TFF, I now find myself able to stand up for them no longer.
I can only echo what others have said. Certain members of the admin team seemed to think that the site revolved around them. And sure, they were massive players in the forums success. They did a mostly superb job for 12 years, 10 of which I thoroughly enjoyed and I have so much respect for them for it. But they were not the most important thing about that site... the most important thing, the most important people, were the members. Sure, the site wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the admin team, but the same goes for the rest of us too. If the members were not around, it wouldn't have been a 100th of the site it was. And it feels like the admin team sort of started to think that they were above and beyond the rest of us, instead of being our equals.
And the main damage was done in the form of a disappointing level of communication between the admin team and the members. Hell, even as a Mod, I wasn't made aware of a lot of details... I still have no idea why a lot of people were banned, and found out that the site was going to close at the same time as the rest of you. That's poor.
But the worst part yet is this sudden disappearance. Now, maybe it's just circumstance. Perhaps the site genuinely died (As it's done before), and seeing as the site is going to be shut down anyway, they can't be arsed to fix it again. That's sort of fair enough. But the last thing I saw on the site was Villaboy (a guy who I have a lot of time for) indicating that the admin team were unhappy about us planning to "meet up in the afterlife" as it were, planning beyond TFF. It almost feels like the admin team didn't want us to be able to stay together. Like their decision to end TFF was THE END. And we had no right to try to save the community and keep it together.
It's awful how it's all ended. And it's a shame... I really do like every member of that admin team, and honestly, I do hope that some, if not all, of them sign up to this new place.
But lessons can be learned. Hopefully Saddler and the rest of his team can use this to build a better future for us. And this should highlight the absolute necessity of being open and honest and keeping communication between admin and members, and the dire costs of not doing so.
Besides, if all of this hassle and relocating of members simply results in us ending up on a forum where Jarvis is once again a regular poster, it'll all be worth it anyway!
