Still relatively early days but I do like a league where everything is as close as that table than basically a few clubs dominating and the rest fighting over scraps. Might be wrong but I reckon it’ll stay the same all season.
Got to say next weekend is shaping up to be a really good game. Your unbeaten in 7,, were something like 5. Our away form is very good. Just hope Stockley doesn't do the dirty on us as he did to you earlier in the year. Another 2-2 !

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Christ, carlisle are poor. I'm gobsmacked by quite how bad they are.

We have twice before been relegated out of L1 and made a right royal pigs ear of it heading into L2 and on the other occasions just barely scraped survival (one literally at the death with jimmy glass) bizarrely also if I remember on all 3 occasions we spent decent money in the summer and expected to do well.

The mistake on all three occasions was ending season and keeping same manager, first time it was Michael Knighton when he’d decided being a PE teacher had warranted being manager, then we allowed Graham kavanagh longer because he was such a fantastic knowledgable player he’d surely develop.

Then lastly we’d kept Simpson too long, we just don’t seem to react well to relegations and make many bad decisions.

Once again due to an ever increasing Injury listing was convinced we would get beat today. Bogle, Hemmings, Long, Lancaster, Thomas and Powell all players that would start in either our midfield or attack all out.

So a draw away vs one of the favourites to go up, I will certainly take given the circumstances.

Has anyone gone down from League one to national league in consecutive seasons as Carlisle must be at risk right now ?

8th in the league, 3 points off top after surely the hardest start to the campaign of anybody in the league. Delighted with our start, the fixtures start to get kind after Walsall next week, that’ll be a true test of where we’re actually at IMO.

Just heard DAs post match interview. Green out for a bit, Luker pulled something in the warm up, Obikwu also has an injury. Thompsons progress back to fitness has slowed.

We may not be able to fill the bench without Academy lads next week. It will be some achievement if we get to Christmas comfortably top half

I think your absolutely right mate. There's no stand out team, it's incredibly competitive, no massive difference on goal averages. It all points to every team is capable of picking up points from each other. Ok you Carlisle/Cheltenham fans are struggling at the moment, for sure it will turn round. My pal at Fleetwood doesn't want promotion, he said it's far nicer in league 2 !
League 1 has got a few teams that think they're bigger than they are. Bolton (who got really poor attendances throughout the 80s and early 90s) being a prime example. Wigan, Blackpool among others. It's basically full of teams who because they have been in the Premier League, think they are huge. It becomes tiresome. There's also often 3 or 4 budgets that dwarf the rest, which makes it a division of two halfs more often than not.

Everyone in this league is on an even keel and there's no real Billy big bollocks. Much more enjoyable and competitive.

Oh and for one of the first times ever away at Salford we’ve got a decent ref, and by that I mean he’s giving us everything. :bg:
WHAT??
He was bloody awful!
Not every foul is a yellow card! Really boils my piss!

Anyway, home now with a well earned 3 points. It is always great to see Karl Robinson losing his shit with everyone at the end

Must say, after Notts county I thought you'd be bottom half but you've had a really good start after that!

Yeah it’s set up quite well. Safe to say of the four teams who came down last season Vale and Fleetwood having a better time of it for now compared to the other two but am mindful football has habit of coming back to bite you so could well change quickly. To be fair will be hoping the same in regards to Kian Harratt though not sure how much involvement he’s had for you so far.

Stockley has been probably our most important signing this summer. Not just his headers but he has this great ability to bring the ball down with his chest and then release someone out wide, he nearly got an assist today doing that.

As said, happened as recently as last season with Forest Green.

Happened to us in 2011. It's pretty common. Our manager who started our League Two relegation season 14 years ago? Paul Simpson.

As the Carlisle fans have alluded to all season and pre-season, they have to shake that losing feeling in order to start turning things around with their new owners and bigger budget etc. I hope they do it, I like Carlisle. When they beat us on pens at Wembley in May 23 all their fans I saw after outside the ground/services etc were sound, proper football fans. I was disappointed for us but genuinely pleased for them.

You know what I’ve been thinking this about us too. At the moment it feels like every game we’re playing is against a side fancied to do well.

So I’ve just had a look at the table and we’ve played 7 of the current top 9 in our first 11 games, which is a very tough start to life back in L2. The positive I’ll take from that run is that we’ve been the better side in most of those games & only lost 2 games all season, with only one real poor performance in our first 11 games away at Vale… but unfortunately we’ve not always managed to turn those positive performances into 3 points in some of them games which has left us in a lower position than we probably should be on balance of the games.

Our next 5 games are:

Newport A (13th place)
Colchester H (17th)
Morecambe A (23rd)
Accrington H (24th)
Harrogate A (14th)

That’s a much nicer run of games on paper than what we’ve been used to recently, so hopefully we can put a consistent run of positive results and put ourselves in the play off picture by the time the FT whistle goes at Harrogate.

I think there are a few teams with budgets that are far far higher than the others in League 2 this season. They, undoubtedly, will be the sides at the top come May. Always a wild card, and always a complete failure.

Carlisle, currently look to have wasted their big bucks, MKD may recover (?) but PV, Donny, Notts, Chesterfield, Gills won’t be far short. Walsall doing well thus far.

Grimsby had a budget around 12-14th last season and underperformed. The budget this season is quite a lot less.

Artell at his best again when he puts a team out to contain and defend. Looking at the stats, Grimsby absorbed a lot of pressure. Big credit to all involved including the man in the dugout.

The moment he goes back to trying to pass out from the back etc, things will start to come unstuck again. Grimsby and Artell need to stick to what they're good at.

Bradford putting a few wins on the board again. It looks like yet another good predicition from me. They've had a lot of injuries to overcome too. Going to be a very tight league this season.

We still pass it out from the back all the time but we're a lot better at it now.

I've been told that we have the biggest budget in the league, which doesn't surprise me. Byers, Stockley, Curtis will all be on decent wedge.

However, the discrepancy between budgets is a lot less than in league 1. Derby and Sheff Wednesday were paying obscene wages for that level. 15k per week in some instances.

Maybe so but we will probably be in the green still from the Dipepa sale you’d think.

Mind you Byers hasn’t turned down big L1 and Championship clubs for a bag of peanuts and because he likes Dazza.

Chuffed for Shorrock today though, that ball was delicious for the goal. Another big prospect from the academy and once we figured out Nemane he was on top.

First time we have been top of the league ( apart from after 1 game) in any league since Feb 2013. We've had some hard times!

We just defend a lead better now than we did last season. More possession in the first half, second half we hardly touched the ball but still restricted Salford to not much, though did get lucky with the post!

We still try to play out from the back, though I don't think our loan keeper has had that message yet because he kicks a lot, but he is very good at it and can kick it well with both feet!

Enjoyed my trip to Tranmere this afternoon. I thought were pretty solid, nothing spectacular. Hope both Shepard and Byrne are okay.

Kian Barratt scored twice in midweek against Barrow, not really played much yet but looks a pretty useful player and good asset to the team. Always liked Stockley, quite simply the guy is class. He missed quite a lot of games for us last season through injury but significantly when he returned especially towards the end of last season the team improved. I presume he is on good money with you, with us it was around £5k a week, that we don't miss !
