It's a pen according to the hand ball rule.

Whether it's harsh or not doesn't really matter

Draw a fair result? We dominated the second half I thought. Used to the ref coming to Nottingham county's rescue though.

Draw seems the fair result there. I can understand why people are saying it's a harsh penalty, but the arm is away from the body and he gains an advantage from that. I think they get given 9 times out of 10 up and down the country. Decent watch though, two teams who try to play forwards but are fallible at the other end.

Onto our game with Accy, realistically it's a must win for a side up the top and it looks like we might be going for it a little more today with 2 strikers and 2 out and out wingers in the side. Accy will be energetic and direct and we'll need to handle that, but beat their press and we should be able to get players into good positions high up the field. I think we need to score early (first 20 or so) to settle the crowd after a difficult 10 days or so but it's a game we should be looking to be front foot and take control of from minute 1.

3-1 Gills.

I don’t think it’s a penalty for the record but Mandeville has bizarrely got his arm in a weird position so kind of see why it was given (again, wouldn’t have complained if it wasn’t given).
I don't think it's particularly unnatural, he's just getting ready to turn. I was quite happy to go in half time level though so on the balance of everything, a point each isn't far away from right. Just thought we'd done enough 2nd half to be winning that game. Subs made good impacts. Thought Jacobs did well when he came on, and Colclough just did what you'd always expect him to. Got to start for me tbh.

Strange and rather defensive line-up from Rovers with no place in the squad for one of the midweek scorers Hawkes and Taylor only on the bench. Inclining towards a Bradford win now, though be delighted to be proved wrong.
Looks like Atkins has done his homework then, we’re terrible against negative teams and have little creativity to break them down.

There it is folks once again "dominated" :bg: a seemingly loosely and overused word in North Derbyshire.

Slightly fortunate first goal for Madden following a shit
Jatta dominating Naylor.
Grigg just onside for goal.
Handball harsh but often given.

Momentum swung this way and that and neither keeper was overly tested.

Great touch from Madden for the first one, he controls that, doesn't just hit him.

A draw was fair to be honest but I can see some big Chesterfield- Notts beef coming on here this weekend.

Fair result overall and the way it happened was probably funnier and more enjoyable than winning would’ve been. Got to be happy with that, off for a beer.

I wouldn’t say Chesterfield dominated. Notts dominated the first mostly but Chesterfield had the better of the second half so overall probably the right result.

I thought both teams had spells in both halves to be honest, kind of went back and forward. Even in the first half they had a spell before half time when we were pinned right back, and us the same in the second in the ten or fifteen before their 2-1 goal.

It must be one or English football’s most entertaining fixtures over the last few years, always really good to watch.

You've definitely cried as an adult at the football.

Back to the game. The neutrals stating a draw overall was a fair result, wouldn't wish to argue with that.

Madden, Grigg and McGoldrick, proven quality scoring 3 of the 3 goals and a combined age of 103. Golden oldies

Only Jatta bucking the trend who once again looked a danger caused defenders issues and continues his goalscoring hotstreak.

Bass didn't have a chance with either goal but the rest he did well.
Bedeau pick of the defenders, he's a surprising star so far this season.
Robertson very mixed. Important muscle in their breaking yo play but loose in possession.
Palmer ok, no more.
Crowley lively, tricky a threat but nothing came off so frustrated.
Gordon good and had Mandeville in trouble.
Austin shouldn't start, all effort little impact.

Notts fans, fucking hilarious bunch honestly. Way they went off at FT you’d think they’d won, and now they’re all on here celebrating a famous draw down at our place (Jacobs comment on the draw being more enjoyable than a win…   ), bless em.

Listen lads, you’re just another bang average side that’s took an undeserved point home from our place, not the first (Joined our friends Salford, Cheltenham & Swindon in doing so) and definitely won’t be the last cos at the moment we love throwing away leads.

All the hype on this Crowley btw??? End product fucking hilarious, takes 30 touches every time he goes near it and then follows it up with either an over hit cross or a shot 30 yards over bar

Final thoughts, got to be some sort of record this one surely… same person MOTM for Notts 3 times in a row in a game between the same 2 sides? The man in the middle dressed in all black. FairPlay that man, outdone himself with that pen decision at the end

Dominated is a bit strong. Neither team dominated either half. I think the fact that County are much happier with this result than we are sort of shows how balanced the 'fair result' is though. I'd say Notts edged the first half, where as I thought we were much the better side once our subs came on 2nd half, but without really having that many gilt edged chances. We should just run that game out 2-1 shouldn't we and feel slightly aggrieved we perhaps haven't got another.
Does a 'proper' right back just have his arms round his back for the penalty? Possibly. Hard to harsh on Mandy though, he tries hard but he's just not a right back.
County have one of the oddest defensive shapes I've seen in a while though. The furthest forward player is almost never ahead of the ball, it's basically 2 banks of 5 facing the play. If it works I guess, but I can't imagine there's many counter attack goals come their way.

95th minute away equalisers when you’ve been on the beers since 9am? Fun IMO.

Surely just shows we scored an equaliser right at the end, no? Flip those two goals round with us going 2-1 up and you lot would’ve rightly been exactly the same.

It was a decent game between two quite good but fairly flawed teams. Hopefully we’ll both have some players back for the rematch but overall we both look like potential play-off sides for me but probably not much more than that.

Conceded from yet another cross with a free header, after we went a goal up after a minute.
Have to say I’m surprisingly impressed with Salford’s forward play though they look very menacing, I think they will score again before half time.

Yea probably, on both points. I still think we've done enough 2nd half to be upset at not taking all 3. We looked much the livelier side for the last half hour. I don't think the pens a pen personally, and the keepers doubly unlucky after saving it.
It's not one of those types of games where you're screaming at the injustice of it all though from our point, for most of the game it was largely even. Two pretty balanced sides, although I'm looking forward to us having a few missing players back and I do think we'll get stronger as the season goes on. We're still a bit in flux, and we're a year behind you in reality. I'd be very happy with a playoff birth tbh

Got away with one there Stockton should’ve buried that.
Shinned it thankfully.
Oh and for one of the first times ever away at Salford we’ve got a decent ref, and by that I mean he’s giving us everything. :bg:

I thought we dominated the ten or fifteen mins up to your goal to go 2-1 up, but after that we never looked like getting back into it and you had enough half chances to kill it probably. One good pass and we were suddenly like four on four in your box in the 95th min when you’re defending a lead though, that’s the kind of naivety that makes you remind me of, well, us.

By the rules it's a pen, ( rules are dumb ) poorly taken with a lucky rebound. A hard earned away point that we just about deserved.
Cook was far more proactive putting on good players to win the game. Maynard was reactive, McGoldrick should have been on from the hour, not waiting until we fell behind.
Still unconvinced about Maynard, not sure he adds the extra that turns us into definite promotion contenders from good squad for the top ten.
