Tranmere needn’t worry about today, the National League want them in the showcase event. It’s next weekend that they’ve no chance.

I'm looking forward to watching Tranmere be reffed out the final vs Sutton trying to Sutton themselves out of it. I expect at least 5 controversial penalties awarded to Sutton with them all subsequently "accidentally" blazed over the bar.

They'll win 3-0 today, don't worry.

Losing a League Cup Final, how awful. Losing playoffs in the old Division 1, soul destroying. NOT.

They've only been in Non League for about 5 minutes, they've got a world of ACTUAL heartache to come. The National League have barely even got started on them yet.

Having seen some of the penalties and other decisions given against this season, we're being reffed out of promotion to avoid embarrassing the National League and the Football League

4 in a row for us, with only one final. Read somewhere that Ipswich have the worst record but can’t remember how many they’ve lost out in.

I'm quite sure Preston have the record for most play-off failures, nine in a row before they eventually won the League 1 play-offs in 2015 through beating Chesterfield and Swindon. But out of the teams never to win the play-offs, Sheffield United must have the most failures with eight (including relegation to Division 3 through the play-offs in 1987).

Ours was 3 losses in consecutive seasons before winning it in the 4th consecutive season.

Seem to remember Lincoln under Big Keith losing out 4 seasons in a row in League 2 I think.

Five in a row, no other team has lost more than three I believe.

Since Tranmere were last promoted when they won the League One playoff final in 1991

- 3 playoff semi final failures in 3 seasons
- Agonising League Cup semi final defeat to Villa
- Lost the League Cup final to Leicester
- Relegated in 2001
- Missed the playoffs in 2003 with 80 points (I believe they're the only team to ever do this with 4 playoff places available)
- Missed out on autos in 2005 then lost in the playoffs on penalties to Hartlepool
- Came 3 minutes away from the playoffs in 2009 but conceded and then Ronnie Moore was sacked which set the club back a few years.
- Started the 2012-13 season on a 13 game unbeaten run then bottled the Top 6 completely.
- Relegated on the final day in 2014
- Back to back relegations to non league in 2015
- Missed playoffs final day 2016
- Lost the playoff final in 2017

- Not to mention, particularly in recent years, Tranmere have a habit of bottling huge league games, the Macclesfield at home one really sticks out this season. If any fans deserve some success, it's them lot and their time is long, long overdue.

Interesting stuff and thanks but most of that is things Tranmere didn't expect to win (old division 2 play-offs, league cup games), that were out of their hands (getting relegated in 2014, they would have still gone down had they beat Bradford, missing out on the play-offs in 2016), that happened well before the final day, or where Tranmere were just plain unlucky (missing the play-offs in 2003 with 80 points, they went on a great run, but so did QPR and they just couldn't catch them). Only losing the play-off final last season, missing the play-offs in 2009 and losing the play-offs in 2005 count as bottle jobs, but you're right Tranmere have had more than their fair share of heartache to put up with.

Why have they not saved Peter Wright to referee the final then? Being diplomatic, he doesn’t seem to give us much.

Nice to see that crucial push from Cook ignored there. Great news for the Natural Order.

Ebbsfleet have noticeably been getting reffed out of it ever since the equaliser. Referee smells blood here and he's going for it.

One or two, and it was paper. Don't tar us all with the same brush. Ashmore was inciting it from the very start, he's not totally innocent.

Hope this game calms down, too many hot heads.

Really have been abysmal away followings in the play offs this year.

I'm trying to watch it at work, but my stream keeps going. What did Ashmore do? Seems to have had things thrown at/towards him earlier on in the half.

I'm usually last to defend cockneys but travelling up to Birkenhead for a 12:15pm or whenever kickoff? Evil prevails.
