Nearly 3000 at Vale.includimg 245 Crewe fans abit high from both sets of fans which isn't great considering the abomination this cups turned into. Still a fair way better than the 8000 odd that turned up at Wrexham. Hold your heads in shame.
To be fair that was only because we had the two for twenty offer both clubs came up with!

8000 at Wrexham is bonkers especially as they were playing a B team as well.

What are the rules on who you have to play in this cup these days? Williams has basically played a complete reserve team in every cup match he’s had and his record in them is terrible, god knows what he might put out against Wolves’ kids next week.

Chance to go to the ground for people who can't usually get tickets and a reduced price I suppose.

It's not really a very good excuse though.

Pleasingly low attendance in the Despicable Cup, and three goals with no reply is just what we needed so good training exercise too. Didn't watch but apparently Stevens' goal was a belter.

There aren't really any, keepers you can change and you have to play X amount who've made so many Career apps or something so not as tight as it used to be in terms of previous league team.

Rumours going around our fan base that Wrexham have asked for our full + extra away allocation of 2,300 when we play them on October 10th. Be interesting to see if we give them that. Going to be way more away fans than home fans that's for sure given we had 600-700 for our 2 home matches in this competition last season.

Didn't they play a fairly strong XI in the first game too?

We may have a few go there as a first visit in a long time (hopefully with less trouble than the 2003 visit!) but will still be in the low hundreds.

Seem to be taking this more seriously than most clubs.

Not really. Keeper was making his debut after signing on loan, Evans made his home debut, Tunnicliffe's first game since April as been injured. Max is our backup kid, Forde needed some minutes, McFadz is probably not in the squad, McAlinden the same, Young played due to illness, and 2 forwards who are normally on the bench.

Our bench was first teamers who played over the weekend.

Won 1-0 but yet again we should have scored about 5.

Okonkwo looks like he's going to be fun. A tad erratic and a monster kick.

Also the referee seemed to have decided that he was going to let the Newcastle kids get away with as many fouls as they wanted without showing cards - maybe because they were half the size of our players?
don't get excited about beating Newcastle U-21's;- we played them pre-season and were 4-0 up at half time

We've played them twice in this so far and beaten them both times, all be it gave us probably the closest test of any of the U21's (we've beaten all the U21's we've faced so far), Liverpool were the worst, we played them the previous two seasons and won 5-0 and 4-2 without getting out of gear with our second string.

Williams continued his ongoing hatred of all cup competitions tonight with a whole raft of changes and a defeat to Wolves u21s. Sounded like we ensured it by missing a succession of open goals.

That's now as many defeats in his five cup ties as manager as he's had in his 53 league games.

Poor old Luke Warm
He's probably got one of the safest jobs in the division this season. Lots of goodwill towards him. The Pizza cup is ideal for fringe players getting minutes but as we've a small squad with a couple long term absent I don't think anyone at the club will be losing sleep over last night's result.

I keep reading this but he always comes across as entirely reasonable to me, serious perhaps but nothing that marks him as strange.

They said the same about Tom Brady because he eat, sleeps breathes (American) football. It's an obsession, so far I'm very very happy that he is.

Plus looking around the stands and terraces for league games, I'm not alone.

Yey, this competition is back for most of the league. Everyone looking forward to another round of fixtures?

Going to be weird at Gresty Road, as I think Wrexham will have probably sold out the 1,600 capacity end and they'll likely be less home fans than that in the ground. Although I wouldn't be surprised if a few of our 'yoof' show up to cause trouble. Hoping we fully rotate and get rest for as many first team players as possible.

Meh! I had to look our fixtures up. I couldn't even remember who else was in our group.

No tinpot trophy matches for us until November.
