We’re doing the very clever ploy of losing every pre season game just to trick the rest of League 2 into thinking we’re shit, then when each team turns up half arsed expecting an easy 3 points we’ll smash the fuckers to oblivion. Easy.

Sometimes it’s good to have a bad pre-season, get the mistakes out of the way.

We made a few daft defensive errors in the 0-0 with Sheffield Utd. They look a good side.

We looked really decent against Pompey. Played some good stuff, but we look weak up front and lost a lot of headers at the back.

Hopefully that is something being addressed at the moment. Fancy ass football is OK if it actually leads to goals.

Phil Brown has also stated he wants a squad of 22. I personally think it’s about 3 short but that’s what he is paid for so I’m happy to trust him!
Our manager has said exactly same and I too thinks it's a bit short too but he's done well so far so I trust me but we did look short of options today, granted against a very decent Blackburn side.

Went to AFC Fylde today. Nice little setup they’ve got to be fair.

We won the game 1-0 but there are worrying signs. Our strike force is absolutely shite, no pace, lack of ability and not much of a goal threat. Our goal was a deflected long range shot.

If we don’t sign some quality in the final third we’re in for a miserable season.
I read the match report in the N&S, made it sound like Fylde were the better team.

He’s shit
Based on what?

He’s already put one away for us and he’s only signed 2 weeks ago.

I rate him, strong, good with his feet. He’s a beast.

See his goal here at 3:15 (shirt number 27)

Second half they were better, but we were on top first half, although we had absolutely no creativity or threat once we got in the final third.

We definitely need one more forward player who can make the difference if we’re going to avoid having an absolute shit tip season.

I would take a chance on Fylde’s number 9. He terrorised us second half, turned and rattled the bar, then forced good save from Collin and then missed narrowly with a rocket of a free kick. I read that he scored 30 goals in the national league last season. He looks far better quality than Bennett or Stockton.

Fylde's no. 9 would be Danny Rowe. Doubt many L2 clubs could afford him.

Been a lot of interest in from league 2 clubs I understand, but as you mention given their chairman, you'd need a large wage to afford him

Not as much as you’d think, but he’s late twenties and never played football league so a bit of a risk.

Very true, I meant more that they wouldn't let him go for anything other than an inflated price given their aspirations to play league football - they also know that any club would hold Fylde to ransom for any player they're interested in given they know they've got money

We were in for him and I suspect the agent was being a bit naughty. Tranmere refused to pay an extra £35k Fylde requested, but another club did bit that amount Chesterfield/Cheltenham I forget which, however Rowe didn’t want to go there.

As for Fylde their squad hasn’t really improved and we took Jonny Smith who was their creative spark.

Tranmere had an open day yesterday and from the messages Palios was giving to fans, it sounds like the club are currently more interested in the infrastructure than increasing transfer kitty. There’s mid to long term plans to spin the pitch 180degrees at Prenton Park to allow for expansion of the Kop into becoming our main stand with corporate facilities.

I'm just hanging on to the hope that normally a pre-season schedule with lots of cause for optimism falls flat come August, so maybe, just maybe an underwhelming pre-season is an omen of a good* season ahead.

We played about 1 pre season game last year and got promoted? About as bad a pre season / good end result as you can get.

My reasoning is that every team has weaknesses and maybe when a team coasts through their pre-season schedule, the manager doesn't have enough opportunity to see what those weaknesses are and strengthen or work around them.

We’ve been trialing a few things pre season, think we’ve got 8 or 9 games as well as a few days in Ireland.

Aspin used the 3 at the back system at Gateshead that England used... Montano converted from left wing to left back with great results for us which seemed nuts at the time... he’s actually been playing the Kyle Walker role in pre season as part of a back three. Not sure how that will work to be honest!

To sum up pre season though... won 8-0 I think against Kidsgrove last year and drew with a strong WBA side so don’t read too much into that... Rekiel Pyke was pinging them in but failed to score and soon disappeared.

We’ve had a mixed bag of results so far but have four home ties all against decent opposition.

Bit of a scalp behind closed doors at Man City's training ground, they finished 10th in La Liga last season. Benteke with the goal again, we have to sign him now you'd think.

We are away at Weston Super Mare tonight, we're playing a mix of first team and academy players.

Just beat a pretty cynical Sheffield Wednesday side 2-1. 3 unbeaten against championship sides, hopefully we can keep this going in the season

Beat Dorchester 2-0 with a team mostly made up of trialists and academy players. A trialist (apparently Yoann Arquin) and Korrey Henry with the goals.

2-2 with a Wolves XI tonignt, two horrific errors from them.

Had a mixed side ourselves out but set up for the last real friendly against Shrewsbury on Saturday.

Looks like we are going with the England type formation Aspo used at Gateshead... not too keen on that myself but we will see how it pans out I guess.
