My boss is a season ticket holder at Sunderland and has been mentioning it since it was announced, I down played it thinking we’d get a tonking. My tune will be firmly changed in the morning. Regardless of it not being their strongest 11 we also had 5 out injured and 9 academy graduates in the squad. This they need some signings as of the ball fell to anyone but Threlkeld for two of the late chances it would have been 4-0. Pre season means little but their commentary team were getting frustrated near the end.

Thought we played some really nice stuff tonight. Was impressed with Halliday at right back - looks better than both Hendrie and Threlkeld by some distance, especially to say he hasn't really kicked a ball in a year. Thing that impressed me most was the energy and the willingness to drive at players; That was a complete contrast compared to last season! And yeah, plenty of graduates getting minutes. Really pleased to see Hughes giving them some game time.

I don't say this lightly, being a miserable fucker for the majority of the time, but I am excited for the season to start.

Abbo Eisa injured again. Hughes says 'significant injury".

Didn’t hear that about Eisa, looks like it’ll be another Riley or Ismail situation where we are lumbered with them for two years without them kicking a ball. Shame really.

Has Eisa been injured since you brought him in? I noticed he'd hardly played. Was decent for Scunny the year we went down. Really frustrating when that happens. We had three wingers that were out for the majority of last season.

I think he played the first two games of last season before doing his hamstring. He didn't play again until November 27th. He pulled his hamstring again and then didn't feature until the last game of the season against Carlisle. We had quite a few hamstring injuries last season. I blame Dismal Derek.

Real shame for the lad. I was hoping he'd play a big part this season, but it's looking unlikely. Hopefully the injury he has isn't too serious.

Ugh back to back hamstring injuries and then a significant injury now? That's tough.

Lost to a very good Palace side tonight 3-2, but an encouraging performance from the team as a whole and a few stood out. Crowd over 3k too

Bradford City 2-0 Sunderland

Great performance from the lads last night - played some good stuff. I wasn’t sure just how strong the Sunderland XI was, and it seems it was very strong in terms of personnel, but disjointed as players were played out of position.

Sunderland’s XI:

Could’ve been 3 or 4-0 - Sunderland were never really in it.

Disappointing regarding Eisa, I had real hopes for him this season. Unlike last season, these injuries shouldn’t cost us again, as the strength in depth in comparison is night and day.

We play a behind closed door games vs Belgian side Lommel SK at Loughborough today. They're owned by the Man City owners and managed by former Arsenal man Steve Bound.

Blackburn at home for us tonight, don't think it's going to be a mega strong Blackburn side reading between the lines, would be surprised to see many, if any trialists at this point.

We beat Sunderland at Sunderland last season in a league game, we were 2 steps down from dogshite, so I wouldn’t read too much into the result

I’m not - we beat Blackburn and yourself last pre-season. Friendly - it’s exactly that.

However, we played very well against strong opposition.

Business starts with you lot in just over a weeks time. We might just run riot.

Be nice to start the campaign with a win. Can see a 5-0 on the cards.

Drew 2-2 with Rotherham vast improvement on our aggregate score of 0-15 last season

It was clear to see we lack the belief of last season without Smith as the focal point.
Ogbene, Wiles and to a cetain extent Barlaser looked like they were saving themselves for a move to richer climes.
Rathbone, who's game is all about hard work and ratting was not suited to a night where the temperature was still hovering near to 40 degrees.
We improved when Washington and Lindsay came on but we were very lack lustre, a point with which Warne agreed with.

Doncaster on the other hand, played some nice, enterprising football in our half and were much improved from last year's games.
Miller looked a good player and triallist "B" showed he is still capable of falling over if someone breathes on him.
The 2 big lads at the back mullered poor young Kelly, but he still got his goal so well done to him.
A lot of your players look a bit lightweight but quite skillful, it remains to be seen if they can withstand some ould fashioned tier 4 clogging.

Not sure what the crowd was but I thought we had a decent turnout, what with the weather and our non good news transfer situation.
There wasn't too much moaning either even when we were losing, which surprised me.
Good luck for next season.

You just might but then all the pressure is on you, as you are expected to get promoted We just have to perform better than last season

Feel sorry for Warne but like us he’s having to compete with teams that are still being allowed to spend more than they have by an inept EFL

beat sheffield utd 3-0 at home.

A bit like dearne says, friendly results mean basically sod all, but i guess it could be said they’re a confidence booster.

Quality goal by boateng in midfield, probably won’t see many midfields in the league this season like mansfield’s tbh.

all about when the proper stuff starts a week on saturday.

Lost 1-0 to Blackburn, just the Mackem horde to contend with before the proper stuff starts again.

Got Cardiff at the CG tomorrow. They’ve sold 750 tickets which is cracking.

I’ll be watching via Taff TV - £3 a stream.

Went to Salford for a match around 2007-08.
It was then a proper FC, With good people working thier bollocks off to keep the club afloat.
Now just TinPot.

Dagenham away tomorrow, last friendly is always the worst one. Don't care what the score is, just no injuries will do.

We send a youth team to Walthamstow on Tuesday, very much doubt any senior players will feature in that one with the injuries we've picked up in pre season.

Swindon 0-3 Cardiff at half time. More bottom two than top 7 on that showing. Really really poor.

Wandered round to the ground to collect my season ticket and looked like the Salford match was a washout. Barely anyone around and with the horrendous weather I'm not sure we'll learn much. Maybe potential for a few more injuries though...

Yeah, abject 1st half. 2nd half much improved and we won it 2-1! Goals for new boys Shade and Wakeling.

McKirdy will be gone soon imo.
