If the Wigan squad is so superior then why did a lot of it do so absolutely shite last season? You can't really point at the gap between divisions either, as Burton and Barnsley managed to do alright.

Genuine question.

Poor management and poor transfer window.
I said it when we were in L1, Caldwell was not a good manager. With the squad and budget we had I could have taken them up. He was found out in the championship after a VERY poor summer window and had no Plan B. We had a chance of revival when he was sacked and appointed Warren Joyce as manager. At the time I didn't know enough about him to comment but after 3/4 games it was clear that he was even worse.

With the right manager, we would have stayed up as there were quite a lot of poor teams last season in the championship.

We play in Wigan pal, it rains every home game. We went to Blackpool in the middle of Storm Brian and won. Weather won’t affect anything. It’s not arrogance it’s just the acceptance that our two squads are far superior to the rest in this league. Sorry, but that’s the harsh reality.
I refer the honourable gentleman to the previous SF correspondence.

Sheff Utd had one of the best squads for about 4 years, still constantly fucked up though until they found a gem of a manager in Wilder.

Mowbray certainly isn't a gem, Cook is decent mind.

Wouldn't be at all shocked if Wigan or Blackburn finished top 2 but its far from a guarantee like some of their fans seem to think.

Two awful managers, two terrible transfer windows, Nick Powell injured for over half the season, sold our best player by a clear mile in January when we had just broken out of the bottom three, the treatment of Sam Morsy by Caldwell. I said in the summer we’d struggle, you can’t go into the Championship with David Perkins as a regular starter and expect to be higher than the bottom five. If we had the same squad and manager this season that we had this time two seasons ago, I think we’d be struggling like Rotherham are right now. That season two years ago was truly awful even for L1’s standard.

What is the aim at Preston currently? Do you see yourselves as anywhere near challenging for play-offs, clearly not worried about relegation but what is the feeling among fans, what do you expect from the club?

OTT imo, the best probably but not by as much as you and Blackburn fans think. We were good value for our win against you, as soon as Powell went off the rest of the "squad" looked very average I'd certainly take Wyke over any of your forwards. As for Blackburn, both us and them started the season poorly. The game was a shocker but if we didn't play the diamond, them score lucky deflection and we had Wyke I think we could have beaten them. No team including us has impressed me this season, in fact probably the best football I've seen came from Oldham as daft as it sounds, or Portsmouth.
Obviously one off games don't tell you everything but neither team anwhere near Sheffield United last season, and no one in the top6-7 should have given up on autos yet as no team is stand out.

Blackburn were mediocre at ours, I understand they’ve probably got better but I can’t see how they’ve got a stellar squad. A lot of big names but apart from Dack vast majority are on the way down rather than up. Dack was their only decent player that game also.

We beat Wigan away so can’t praise them really but they’ve probably got a slightly better squad than Blackburn.

If I was to make up a combined Wigan Blackburn XI there would be more Wigan than Blackburn and that’s me being totally unbiased. Only Smallwood, Mulgrew, Dack, whoever they have at LB and possibly Graham would get in it.

It was incredibly disappointing to lose against Blackburn earlier on in the season, not because I felt we were better - but because Blackburn were so poor, and they were there for the taking.

Let’s have it right, Blackburn and Wigan should be walking this league, anyway. Vastly superior budgets, not squads. Wigan will win the league because they have the experience, but it will become increasingly difficult for Blackburn when the cow-patch turfs make their appearance.

I just hope our owners invest heavily in the Jan transfer window - automatic spots are there for the taking.

I do think it will be Wigan and Blackburn that go up automatic.. But I don't understand why so many Rovers fans especially on the Facebook L1 sites are so adamant they are going to steam roll past us win the league convincingly.
Most of the Rovers fans on Facebook banter pages are taking the piss, we've been doing it since May. But there's every chance we could keep this form going and gain an advantage over you.
My problem for Blackburn is I can't see where they are going to pick up 5 points, where we are going to drop them. Both squads are large and have cover unlike Shrewsbury who we have seen start to slowly grind to halt in the title race.
3 of those 5 could come from beating you at Ewood, the other 2 could be you drawing against Shrewsbury. 5 points is nowhere near as big as it sounds, I'm sure we were 10+ points behind the top 2 not that long ago.

Another 1-0 win for us (despite playing fairly poorly) and now only outside the play-offs by virtue of having scored two fewer goals than Charlton.

A fixture of gargantuan proportions for us next week at New Meadow.

I’ve figured out why Charlton have tailed off recently. Last week I dug out my old forgotten anteposts and found a Wolves, Charlton, Luton top six treble. So apologies in advance.

I fancy us to have a go at the play-offs, if it wasn't for having 10 players injured in November then I'm confident we would be in the top 6 already.

Built a great, young squad here and I'm impressed by Alex Neil so far.

There might have been some tongue in cheek in that post.

No matter what everyone thinks, i have to say that the top two will be us and Blackburn. Any one of the two as champions. Superior squads and budgets. January will be a massive month and the club with the best month will win the league. I personally think Bradford will also come up with us. The league is now starting to take shape. I cant see shrews holding off Blackburn, Bradford, Charlton etc. I see Shrews dropping to around 8th by the end of the season. Ithink the top 8/9 now will be the top 8/9come May...

Well thanks a bundle.

To be fair, we've tailed off because of injuries and the fact we aren't actually all that good and have no proper striker.

Carrying on from where he left of with us then.

Still can’t quite believe that we managed to get £100k for him - and release circa £3.5k per week in wages.

Clarke is decent, really like him. In fact our dip in form stared after his injury which I don't think is that much of a coincidence. We miss his energy and his link-up. No idea why you Bradford fans are so negative towards him, like him down here.

Can't say I've seen enough of Marshall to have an opinion. Don't think he's made that much of an impact but was injured for quite a while.
