Doesn’t have to be us losing. A lot of our wins over the past few months have been by a single goal, it wouldn't have taken much for those to turn into draws. Whilst I'd not be surprised to see us go unbeaten (apart from against Northampton) the rest of the season, if we had a run like last year where we drew every game we could easily be overtaken.
You have a game in hand on most teams below you and a superior GD to all the teams outside the top 3. Crack open the champagne lad!
Would be a failure of epic proportions for Exeter not to get autos as you probably only need to win a few games.

Exeter and fgr are home and hosed. As I said, we're going to have a phenomenal run of winning games if we keep winning in from here. We'll definitely lose one I think and possibly even 2. The aim has to be 4 wins for us, which should be enough for 3rd.

You can save one of those defeats for the play off final v the gas. We owe you one after 1989.
Cant see you guys missing out on autos either though the way you are picking up results

The inconic image of Robbie Earle sat in the tunnel emotional… since that 1989 day we’ve only made the play offs once, 1993! We try not to talk about that final though!

You did us a favour really as the following season we pipped Bristol City to the league title, beating them in the penultimate game in what was arguably the best season ever for many of us gasheads.

I think we did get lucky in the first leg at Twerton Park as Ron Futcher should have been sent off for one of the most blatant headbutts you’ll see.

Had a similar experience losing in 93 to West Brom. Probably my most miserable day watching Vale but then sealing automatic promotion at Brighton the season after more than made up for it.

It was a great season likewise 2015/16. But in my opinion the best was 73/74 starting off at AFCB.

Whilst I agree the top 3 now will finish in the top 3, I certainly wouldn’t say it’s done. If it was between two teams then I’d say maybe, but there are so many twists to come that really anything can happen.

One red card, one injury, one slip - anything really can change the table completely.

Regarding Vale vs the lower teams - this was actually DCs weakness. We rarely beat the bottom teams or made a right meal of it

It has been a Vale weakness probably ever since I have been going (2001!)

Even when we won promotion and wiped the floor with teams 5 6 and 7 in 2013 we had some poor results against the likes or Morecambe and Aldershot at home.

In the Covid cut season when we missed out of the playoffs on PPG by .3 of a point or whatever it was we beat most of the teams above and around us, think only Swindon Away and Exeter Away (beat both at home) out the top 10 beat us.

Against the bottom 6 we managed 1 win all season (and they had a man sent off a 1-0 up in the first half!)

Its just the Vale way...

We are up at champions. FGR probs third. Second probably Vale.
Good that you have FGR as an auto-promoted.
I suspect Dale Vince already has the local tattooists number on his phone's speed dial for that second promotion star on back on his neck to be inked in.
After Saturday's home match v Hartlepool, FGR have 4 away games of which 3 are against promotion rivals: Bristol Rovers, Swindon & Mansfield.
Exeter require 8 points [currently 7 points & GD adrift] more than FGR for Championship before season end.
Of Exeter's remaining games they also play 3 promotion rivals: - Tranmere, Northampton & Port Vale but two are at home and only Port Vale away for last game of season.
Could be a tight race till last game of season.

I have to admit I was worried for our play off hopes when Connor Taylor was being treated after his goal v Bradford. Any injuries to our CBs or RB and we would be screwed as there is no cover (apart from Harries at CB but he causes more problems than he solves)

It's a complete myth. Not sure why Vale fans keep saying it, personally. We threw away a late lead at Oldham (3-2) and lost late at Colchester (1-0). They're the only two.

We lost at home to Walsall (0-1) and Rochdale (2-3) but neither were in the position they currently are when we played them.

We've taken 6 points off Scunthorpe, 4 off Stevenage, play Oldham tomorrow, 6 off Barrow, battered Colchester at home and took 4 off Carlisle.

* 6 off Barrow despite conceding 1st in both games - so there's no struggle there against lower teams as the players seam to have got the right attitude when going behind against them.

Haven't watched Rovers since JB has been appointed and won't until he's gone, and that's fine. Ideal situation for me is Rovers up, Barton down. I find it hard to support a team managed by JB. Regardless of how well they are doing.

In the absence of not going to Rovers though I've found myself looking out for Vales results more. The DC effect. Love the guy so much AND he is a fucking lovely human being.

I don't know if deep down part of me wants Vale to do better than us. Just whilst they've got DC and we've got JB.

I bloody love him. He seems like a great guy. Best we've had since Micky Adams.

Walsall fans are weird for not liking him. Probably says more about the state of their club rather than the man himself.

I think he’s probably my favourite Vale manager since John Rudge. When he took over that squad was a complete rabble and he managed to get a tune out of them to keep us up before thankfully getting rid of them all in the summer and bringing in his own players. The way he conducts himself and his professionalism has been light years from what we had before. Can just tell by the way the players and coaching staff have all come together while he’s been away to get these results we have done lately the spirit he has built in the club.

Vale fans are weird when they’re doing well.

I’ve no doubt they’d queue up to lick the team bus on its return from a gutsy 1-0 win against Market Town Utd, then say they owed them one because of something that happened in the fifteenth century.

Carol would charge them a fiver a lick though, and may I be the first to say, good for her.

I'd say we're a dedicated bunch. I have mates who are Stoke fans and they're nowhere near as bothered about how their team is doing. Whenever Vale fans get together, it's all we talk about!

It’s not like we “do well” that often either! Pretty starved of success and devastatingly poor ownership in decades.

We have a connection with this team for the first time in years.

It’s a pity D.Clarke wasn’t available when we had a vacancy as I would have loved him at Mansfield, as he is a local lad.

However, now we have young Nigel, he is the best.

You should have been down to 10 men early in the first leg and then the outcome may have been a different story. S'alright though, the following season was a better experience than beating Vale in a 2 legged play-off final would ever have felt.

I’m surprised you didn’t take him on with his record (bar Walsall). Hopefully he will be present on a match day before the end of the season, apparently the squad were all at the funeral in Southampton which just shows the unity to the team he has knitted together, it raised an eyebrow when he released all the out of contract players last summer but can’t fault what’s happened now.

Hopefully promotion is destined after the heartbreak he has suffered, certainly can see the squad and doing all they can for him.
