I dont know who is more foolish. Liverpool for demanding such a ridiculous figure or Man City for accepting it. Bonkers.
Liverpool knew City had desperation seeping out of their pores. Well done to Liverpool to sticking to the guns and milking them dry.

It's a mad fee but if he now finally gets his head down and works, he has the potential to be world class. People underestimate this move a little bit I think. Liverpool are a good side but he was a big fish there. He's now going to be playing alongside players like Aguero and Silva which can only help his development. He's also going to be taking on the likes of Zabaleta, Kompany and Clichy now in training which again is a step up.

£49 million is alot but a few years down the line when he's in his prime, I could see a Madrid/Barca come calling with a fee that exceeds what City have just paid for him.

200k/pw :£His contact renewals will be fun.

Good deal for both clubs. City don't give a shit about the money and get one of the top prospects in football, Liverpool get a top fee.

I just think that £49 million for someone who hasn't performed on the biggest club stage, has used at least 5 excuses to force a move and has an agent who will do anything to get what's best for him rather than the player is a big risk - plus the fact it is a totally obscene price for a 20 year old who's had one dynamite full season.

Liverpool are smart to take the money and get rid. I hope Sterling progresses as he obviously has a clear raw talent, but he needs to stay on the right track. He has his whole career to make this sort of move, I hope he hasn't jumped too soon.

I think the agent has been dictating things for far too long, no doubt in order to get a bit of cash for himself. My honest opinion is that he will flop at City, he won't be the main man and there will be far less patience if he doesn't perform. Rodgers, for all the stick people give him, was probably the best manager for Sterling to have at this point in his career.

Man city have been bent over and had a massive fat off cock shoved up their arse here. He's a good player but he isn't worth 15 million more than Sanchez.

Liverpool have done well but surely their fans must accept that they're not quite the club they once were. Any half decent footballer is using that club as a stepping stone to the big powerhouses of England/Europe.

I've said it a million times but there is far more money in the game than talent to go around. City have the better of the deal here, it's rare that teams sell one of their best players and can then replace him, no matter how much they get, and Liverpool are one of the worst big teams when it comes to recruitment in the first place.

If Sterling didn't already think he was the dogs bollocks and finished article, then this will certainly confirm it in his head.

Reality is that he needs to work on weaker parts of his game and also perform consistently in even his strong areas.

From an England perspective I feel this is a bad move.

Liverpool must be laughing.

Price of Sterling has really gone up in this Eurozone crisis.

Heh.

Nice bonus for them. What happened to them being kicked out of the Football League? Be a lot of money to spend in the Conference.

He had Sturridge and Suarez not so long ago who were on the same level if not better than Silva and Aguero. He also had the service of Coutinho last season and believe me he missed some absolute sitters. No doubt about it City have bought potential here rather than ability, but he may be like a rabbit in the headlights with better players around him.

He was our best player in the first half of the season last season, but 2nd half he was average at best. He had a strong finish to the 13/14 season though. He can be really frustrating to watch at times but at other times he's unbelievable, and for someone so little he has so much strength. I think £49mil is a great deal for us as long as we invest it wisely. I'd try signing a top player from a club on the same level as us at this moment in time ie Dortmund or Napoli. Or we could ask our old friend Rafa to do us a favour!

Aguero v Suarez I can take as an even fight, but Sturridge against Silva? No contest. Even if they are different positions.

But wasn't his season with those two his best with the club when everyone started raving about him?

If it comes off (he might suddenly decide he wants to go to Villa or something), the thing I think will be most beneficial will be his ability to beat a man. The one thing that has really caused City to come unstuck has been when sides bung eleven behind the ball. Another player able to create some space, with players as good as Silva and Aguero alongside him will hopefully help to break them down.

He does tend to hide in big games. The only 2 I can think where he's had an impact was Chelsea at home last season and Arsenal when we best them 5-1.

He got huge hype in the 2nd half of 13/14 because he burst onto the scene at the age of 18/19, even though there were still players in our team in that run who were better. Sturridge had 7 assists to his name compared to Silva's 9. As a 3 man attack, I don't think it's unreasonable to compare Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling to Silva, Aguero and Sterling even if Sturridge and Silva are different types of players. Even so, if Silva is there to feed Sterling more than what Sturridge was then I wouldn't rely on him to put the chances away.

It's a good signing for City and I'd of likes him to stay, but I'd prefer £49mil. He's not justified that price tag at all.

I think he'll do really well. He's not the best player at City, so he won't receive much in the way of special treatment from opposition players, which will afford him more time and space to do what he's best at. Which is working on getting himself a £300k a week deal with Real Madrid.

For once Liverpool have done well there. He isn't worth £50 mill at the moment imo, but over the next few seasons he will prove to have been a bargain for City. £40 mill in the bank for Liverpool to bag a striker now, lets hope they can get someone decent for that.

Sorry to say that I agree with you completely. Although I would love to have seen him put in the reserves for a season like some have said, Liverpool don't have the capital of the big four to afford to do that, and hence he had to get sold. Players come and players go and I don't get too upset whenever a fine player leaves Anfield generally, but the way he and his agent were treating the club left a very distasteful shadow on Sterling's character. I hope they can use the money to get a good one or two 'b-list' players with experience and hopefully can leave this episode behind and start afresh again.

He is a good player, no doubt about that. Anyone would be pleased to play with players like Aguero and Silva. It's outside of them two where I think City are flattening out. Yaya Toure is a fine player but getting older and more inconsistent. The rest look so-so (at the top level). I'm not sure he's backing the righ horse here for his development as I said months back.

His pace and trickery is a great strength but his final product needs plenty of work. He'll definitley be an asset for City, 49m's worth, not for me but City were desperate and need English players, preferably young and talentend.

I think Liverpool and City will be at each other's thoats for that 4th spot. Could be fascinating.

Another thing about Sterling, I actually prefer him more central. I think he gets a little lost on the wing.

£49 million is absolutely bananas, Liverpool have fleeced Man City. Fair play.

Do City really need him that badly?
