It's not about the money,
It's not about the money,
It's not about the money,

"150k a week, Raheem?"

"Love this club, was never in doubt, minor contractual issues..."

if he joins a bigger and better club the liverpool fans will say coutinho is better and they are glad raheem has been sold. if he stays though he is better than ronaldo and messi combined.
If Coutinho was being chased, you would say Coutinho was our best player. Sterling in the same sentence as ronaldo and messi? They are not even fit to lace Sterling's boot, seeing how highly you guys rate him :D

I get that he wants to win trophies, who wouldn't, I just think he's too young to be worrying about it this early on his career. See out your contract at Liverpool...leave in 2/3 years join Madrid/Barcelona/Chelsea and won as many trophies as your can get your hands on.

He's made Pagnell look a bit of a tit here hasn't he with this latest interview?

Odd comment. He's claimed it isn't about money, I'd say he would sign up to a new deal in a heartbeat if we added another £50k to the deal.

Feel free to elaborate.

One of these is not like the others.
Lol. Honestly I reckon he'll end up at Arsenal and we'll get Theo.

For some bloody reason we've shown interest in that show pony.

A homegrown player who can score goals and contend for Chelsea's XI, it would make sense. I'd love Sterling as a Walcott repalcement, but I'd prefer we left that role to Welbeck/Oxlade-Chamberlain/Gnabry and invested in a Dybala or Lacazette. Giroud is brilliant, but he's aging and already lacks mobility. Welbeck is an okay CF, but I prefer him on the wing with a promising young CF to challenge Giroud.

Walcott for Cech + £10m, done deal. :bravo:

Edit - Just saw he said he's flattered to be linked with Arsenal days before he plays them. A bit shit for him to do, even though I'm personally excited as an Arsenal fan. He'd move to us and then be flattered by that cult in Barcelona.

Not sure why he'd go to Arsenal if he wants trophies, complete side way step. Manchester City only viable step from here.

Agreed. I can't see what Arsenal offer that Liverpool don't.

I suppose, the stadium is a big boost in terms of revenue. Champions League football. London, he's from there after all.

However, I think Manchester City are most likely. I see no way on earth that a European side would be interested, he's just not good enough so might as well stay in a weakening league where his stock will only rise.

I think location could play a part. I get the feeling he'd welcome a move back to London.

It's funny, but sometimes I forget that footballers are human beings too.

It seems blatantly obvious that location would be a key factor in most people choosing to move job, yet when it comes to footballers it's not something I ever consider. I suppose I just assume that because they get paid so much that they'd be willing to go anywhere. Obviously that isn't always the case.

I think that's a fair point. Obviously there's the allure of being in London, the capital which offers the most expensive shop etc on a grander scale than anywhere, plus he is from London.

Possibly not enough to force a move but you can see how it might be a motive.

Think his mum said something about wanting him to come back to London, but other than that it's probably conjecture.

It isn't ludicrous to suggest we're more than a "sideways step" for Sterling. We're nearer to the league title than Liverpool, fared better in the CL, are based in London, and have healthier finances (including the increased CL revenues next season) to continue improving. We've noticeably improved in recent seasons and Sterling could see himself as another piece in the puzzle. I don't think there's much between our squad and City's if I'm honest, particularly given the regression of Kompany and the need to replace Yaya Toure, which will be difficult to do and simultaneously improve under FFP regulations. City's desperate needs for homegrown players makes a summer swoop for Barkley and Sterling seem likely to me. Barkley to try and replace Youre and Sterling as a huge upgrade over Navas. Only way I think we land him is if Walcott moves to City himself, or if it's a swap with Sterling.

No. But the feeling comes from Liverpool being a complete dump in comparison to London.

From someone who has spent a lot of time in both cities, that is very subjective. I doubt you have ever been to Liverpool, never mind in recent years. There are numerous reasons to choose London over Liverpool, but one being more of a 'dump' than the other is not really one of them.

And Spus, Arsenal are shoo ins for top 4 every season, so that's certainly something they have over Liverpool at the moment. But in terms of trophies, there is little difference. Arsenal haven't had a shot at the title for years, and I see no reason why that will change with the money City and Chelsea have. And that's ignoring United joining in with their "try to buy success" philosophy now. Arsenal's biggest change of a trophy is still a domestic cup, and I'd say they're little to no more likely to do that than Liverpool.

You're as much a non-entity when it comes to big trophies, Liverpool have been closer to the league title more recently than you. You enter the Champions League for financial purposes only, second round exit no matter what calibre of opponent. Nowhere near the league title this year and won't be for the forseeable. Flat-track bullies if we ever saw one.

Liverpool are a bigger club with bigger history too, although that makes little difference.

It's not like these players live in the city, they live in Cheshire or the Home Counties with the rest of the millionaire Tory club. Both great cities though, if on different scales.

Then that is odd because no one who had seen Liverpool properly in recent times would call it a dump unless they were either an idiot or very selective in what locations they'd visited. Perhaps you can tell us what one is applicable.

Of course, there are parts which are shit holes even now, but there isn't a large city in the UK where that isn't the case, including London. And I'm saying that as someone who worked in Bermondsey for nearly 5 years.

Pagnell I'm not getting into a debate about which city is better....I don't care. All I said was that he might want to come back to the city he grew up in. A lot of players sooner or later return to their home cities, especially if said city contains 2 clubs which have the same expectations as the player.

There was a story a year or so ago by Darren Lewis reporting that Sterling's mother wanted the family to move back to London.
