Not saying Liverpool don't have the right to hold out for £50m, but that is an awfully inflated price. I don't think any club in Europe will pay that much for him right now.

That's probably the discounted rate for Bale this summer and no one is going to choose Sterling over him. Not to disservice Sterling, but Bale has proven more, is more physically gifted, and is much better suited to helping his team compete for titles immediately.

He was clearly exaggerating grossly but didn't Pellegrini say something about Sterling potentially costing £100m a few months ago? Most of us seem to agree that if he leaves Liverpool then City are the most likely destination for him, and I wouldn't put it past them to overpay drastically for a young, English (quotas) player with fantastic potential. £50m might be stretching it but I can easily see them paying over £40m for him.

Ok the price I quoted may be a bit inflated, but a team would be getting a player who has proven he has great ability with plenty of room for improvement, and will work in various roles well. Heck £50 mill for him wouldn't be the worst bit of business around.

The idea that Real, Barca or Bayern are interested in Sterling is pure fantasy. He's no where near good enough. It'll just be his agent trying to inflate his value.

Sterling won't leave Liverpool this summer for less than £40 million, and I'd be surprised if he left for less than 50.

Liverpool do not need to sell, and so why would they let him go unless they get offered stupid money? As with most transfers, the player's true value is somewhat irrelevant. Liverpool are in the position of power [for this year at least] and so I totally believe Rodgers when he says that Sterling won't be going anywhere.

Different situations. If you remember, Suarez had already kicked up a stink the year before, when Liverpool hung on to him despite him making it pretty clear he wanted to leave.

Same with Sterling. I see no reason why this year Liverpool should let him leave, regardless of his contract situation. The summer after will be a completely different kettle of fish, as was the case with Suarez, albeit for different reasons.

They are different situations you are right, but I still wouldn't place much stock in what Rodgers says.

That was said that about Bale, yet where is he now?

You do remember after that article Suarez did 'bite' a player at the World Cup thereby forcing Liverpool to sell. That wasn't anything to do with Rodgers wanting to keep him or not, and the manager did not do anything wrong. His word is better than most out there.

Good luck to the little fella, he owes Liverpool nothing and football is a short career.

I think EG meant he's nowhere near good enough now, which he isn't. He'd be a forgotten entity at any of the three elites right now. Bale wasn't good enough at 20 either. I remember when it took two seasons for Tottenham to win a game with him in the XI! He was a meddling left back still.

I agree but if he wants to improve then he will be allowed to improve at Liverpool as he has done since he has come in to the first team. If he moves for big money and gets a colossal salary, then the pressure will be on him to step it up quicker than he may be comfortable with and that could be to the detriment of his career. He has to be careful.

What makes you say that? He is up there with the biggest bullshitters in the league.

If he wants to improve then he will be better playing day in day out with a higher standard of player at somewhere like a City or Chelsea, and competing in Europe's elite competition.

He's treading water at Liverpool, carrying a lot of average players, which is something he was clearly hinting at in the BBC interview IMO.

The track record Liverpool have of selling their better players for years is a contributing factor to this. Why would players want to commit to a club that never sustains its progression?

Liverpool should be determined to keep the core of bright young players and matching their ambition by bringing in some quality for them to play with.

He's always open and honest what he says. Yep sometimes it comes out a bit David Brentish, but he calls it as he sees it. I'd rather have that than listen to someone like Mourinho who basically only says two or three default things.

Mourinho is a master of mind games in the media and getting his players to respond.

Rodgers calls it how he sees it? He's rampaged against Costa's stamps and then said he's not seen anything in it with the Skrtel stamp. He needs to go to the optometrist with Wenger.

That's because there was nothing in the Skrtel stamp, I fully agree with him in that. Gerrard was rightfully sent off, but the other one is a ludicrous decision by the FA to ban him.

Shows you what those 'journalists' know - that will never happen in a million years.
Might happen, can't blame him if he did. He evidently has a burning desire to play for a big club, United would be a good choice. Wouldn't have to worry about being far away from his kids etc.

They have as much chance of winning the league or trophies as Liverpool currently, i.e. not a lot. Then there is the fact of the unofficial transfer embargo's between the sides. Its a waste of ink that 'story'.

Aye, maybe so. Player power though ini, if a dude wants to move to a bigger club then ultimately he will move to a bigger club. If Raheem wants to live the dream then he will do, whether LFC like it or not.

If they come in for him then it'll be triple the price ;)

But United are going to continue to invest and bring in the best players possible. Liverpool sell their better players and struggle to bring in top quality.
