What is the general consensus of Millwall fans towards him mate? We had him on loan from Chelsea during 2008/2009 under Roberto Di Matteo and most of our fans thought he was awful (though in fairness he was only 19/20). He seems to have improved since then though, evidently.

Retained: Jimmy Abdou*, Mark Beevers, Paris Cowan-Hall, Shaun Cummings, David Forde, Lee Gregory, Tom King, John Marquis*, Lee Martin, Sid Nelson, Aiden O’Brien, Fred Onyedinma, Alfie Pavey, Jack Powell, Mahlon Romeo, Ben Thompson, Ed Upson, Byron Webster, Shaun Williams, Keaton Wood.

Released: Nicky Bailey, Matthew Briggs, Dylan Casey, Richard Chaplow, Alan Dunne, Carlos Edwards, Sofiane El-Bekri, Ricardo Fuller, Denzel Gerrar, Jake Goodman, Magaye Gueye, Justin Hoyte, Stefan Maierhofer, Angel Martinez, Danny Shittu, Josh Siafa, Callum Webb, Martyn Woolford.

Asterisks indicates been offered a new deal on reduced terms. Alan Dunne leaves after nearly 20 years at the club. Bailey is too good for this league but is on big wage and is always injured. Gueye has quality but Harris doesn't seem to rate him much.

Our squad is looking really young at the moment. Only a handful of senior pros left and of those I expect Mark Beevers and Shaun Williams to stay in the Championship. Ambler says we will sign about five players over the Summer, a left back, a CB, a striker and two others. Not sure what to expect next season tbh.
It will be interesting to see what Marquis does.
We are certain to have offered him a deal as well.
I tend to think that he will sign for Millwall as he is reported as having a very good relationship with Harris.
He has, however, had a good spell with us and has had regular first team football and scored goals and generally settled in very well.
I would be surprised if you have offered him reduced terms because if you have then you could lose him for nothing.
If you have offered him a deal the same, or better, than the one he was on then you would be entitled to compensation should he go somewhere else.

I'd take Woolford back in a heartbeat, club legend that lad.

Most painfully average player I've seen turn out for us in years. That's average in its true sense, not a lazy, inaccurate synonym for shit.

He looks OK. Most fans are indifferent about him. I imagine he will be very solid in L1 and that's all we can ask for really.

If he has any sense he will sign for Gillingham, where he's wanted. He will be fourth or fifth choice here, which at this stage of his career would be a disaster. How do Gills fans rate him? He had a purple patch around Feb/March time but I notice he hasn't been prolific since.

Most Gills fans rate him highly.
He has a tremendous work ethic and never gives less than 100%.
He has not been playing much lately due to Edinburgh wanting to take a look at young Luke Norris once we were mathematically safe, hence he has not been on the scoresheet.
He does seem to be a confidence player and once he started to get regular games and the goals were coming the crowd really took to him and you could see the improvement in him.
All in all he seems that he will only get better and most, if not all, Gills fans would have him back tomorrow.

He had 3 good games for us where he played like Messi in a wig. Then he missed an open goal and went back to being utter shite again. I was happy you took him off our hands, although he seemed to do better with you than he ever managed with us

I'd have Hoyte back here. I thought he was always dependable if never amazing. Decent player to have in the squad.

All the 4 released by us could do a good job in League 2 and maybe offered spots in League 1 squads.

Which means we are getting better. Usually our players leaving struggle to get other clubs. I read somewhere that Joe Martin is talking with Milwall. Dunno if true. Hoyte and Galbraith are good enough players according to most on our forums. And Leon as well. Lot of our fans reckon he should have been kept as the 3rd Central defender particularly against some big, mean, Northern clod-hoopers. But he may be wanting regular football at his age, not rotating or subs bench.

Barnsley have released Nana Boakye-Yiadom, Martin Cranie, Kane Hemmings, Leroy Lita, Jean-Yves M’Voto & Rhys Oates. Also transfer listed Milan Lalkovic and James Bailey.

Oates, Hemmings and Lita won't be missed. I'm in the minority of fans who liked M'Voto but can see the reasoning behind it. Gutted for Boakye-Yiadom, hopefully he finds another club. Martin Cranie won't have a problem finding a new home, probably in the Championship too, but he had to go due to the wage space he was taking up.

Neither Bailey or Lalkovic have impressed so can see why they've been listed.

Nyatanga offered a new deal, been great since he's returned so hopefully he signs.

Overall pretty happy with events.

Really?

I thought he was doing okay for your lot!

Not sure whether I'd take him back - he shown great form before he left, but was usually very average, as you said.

He is OK. No real pace or skill. Technically OK but nothing more. Not unintelligent but limited vision. An acceptable scoring record, doesn't assist enough. Like I said, painfully average. It's hard to muster any strong emotions about the bloke.

Both Luke James and Kyle Vassell were fairly pricy purchases I thought, only been given one season? Not good enough? Would imagine a lot of those players will have a lot of interest in them.

I'd take Payne, James, Vassell and Newell from that list. Depending on wage/fees I suspect Deano may be interested. Luke James couldn't be anymore a Dean Smith player if he tried.

I would love Jack Payne back at the Gills but there is no way we would pay a fee for a player.
I think the only fee we have paid in the last five years or so was the compensation for Luke Norris and I shouldn't imagine that was much.

Vassell was never a pricey purchase. James was.

KV has also been here a year and a half now. Not really ever shown enough. Surprised about James as he genuinely seems like he has talent.

How is Norris getting on with you? When we had him on loan everyone seemed to think he would go on to better things, looked a serious goalscorer.

I like him and think he will improve and become a very good striker.
He started slowly and the fact that he seems to have a fairly languid style meant that some of the miserable gits in the crowd got on his back a bit.
This was shown by the fact that his away form was so much better than his home form.
He does seem to have won most of them over in the last few games though.
In short, doing OK with promise of better to come.

Disagree. We have (for the first time in a long time) a bit of financial clout. I don't imagine we'd pay fees similar to when we were buying Asaba, Taylor, Ashby, Smith and Hess all those years ago, but a couple of hundred thousand for the right player is feasible. Thing is, central midfield is probably our strongest area, so would Payne be the right player? I'd want him back with us though, I feel he would add to our squad superbly. Morris, Dack and Loft is a decent enough midfield trio, but with rumours of Pritchard wanting out then that only leaves us with Hess Jnr as back up - not really adequate IMO. He's a Gills boy too, so I think he'd favour a move back home over most others.

Not a Bonser player though, would have to offer a transfer fee!

Can't have that, no no no.

Apparently jack Payne found out he had been transfer listed through Twitter.
Posh hadn't even told him.
Should imagine he can't wait to get away now.

We've taken up the extra year options on Ollie Turton and Jon Guthrie's contracts. But liam Nolan has been released, no news on any of the others.

How inspiring.

Good decisions thus far I think. Clearing squad players out in midfield, hopefully paving the way for some extra quality in there. It's the area in most need of attention for me. Kept hold of 2 defenders who I think have been pretty solid all in all too. Tate or an experienced CB, Leigh or an established LB and I'd be as happy as its realistic to be with our defence.

Good to see Davis getting last season's iron curtain on new contracts.

Good to see Nolan gone tho, and the longer there is no news on Anthony Grant the longer we can all pretend he's signing a new 5 year contract. Bliss.
