There's no doubt that the board will be seriously thinking about getting rid of Mills. I think he's rapidly become more unpopular with a big section of our fans than Wilkin and Morrell were when they got the boot. Neither of them got the level of boos that Mills gets. It's just whether we have the money to change manager.

Mills at gateshead was 50/50. That season during wembley run and 1st half of seaaon after were a good ride. But after the defeat to west brom things seem to go sour. He also got booed like after defeat to nuneaton but theres been worse at gateshead since mills left so he does not seem that bad now. Had he not gone to wrexham am sure he would have got another season at gateshead and corrected the wrongs he made

Do we think the lack of transfer window this season has perhaps meant the PT guys are able to get rid of managers earlier?

I'm assuming most have some on non-contract terms that are easy to get rid of and managers can make more changes and bring players in straight away.

The worst part about Mills has to be his dreadful recruitment, which I recall we were warned about by the Heed fans on here. He has brought in over 40 players (inc. loans) since June 2015 and there's only been a small number good enough for the standard we need; Vose, Nolan, Tilt, Jalal, Newton and maybe a couple more. So roughly for every 6 or 7 players he brings in, only 1 is actually good enough for another contract the following season. He can't say that sort of strikerate is all budget related, it's a hell of a lot of wasted money per season.

It's no coincidence Mills' stock has dropped since counter-attacking replaced possession-based football as the most effective manner of winning football matches.

Although I hear he resorted to long ball at the end of last season, which obviously didn't work out very well.

So he's basically David Holdsworth.

He only seems to give one-year deals out as well, which isn't great for squad building.

True. He's massively underperformed in by far the most important aspect of club management. Something you could kind of forgive a rookie manager like Morrell for, but you'd think someone who's been around non-league for this length of time would be a bit better on. I mean, I seriously doubt any other manager in our league would have signed Michael Bakare.

Sure seems to be a pattern emerging. His first season at gateshead the bulk of players were signed previous managers bolstered by legends oster and lester. Club were boosted by play offs with increase in gates and mills got good budget from chairman graeme wood and club enjoyed biggest crowds ever. Except mills wasted money on duds like tom allen and alex rodman. Only signing that made a mark was danny wright who sadly had to leave for family reasons

Would be a good choice on both counts if it happens. He's done really well at Morecambe with virtually no money since he took over and probably deserves at a bigger club. Also sounds like he's from around Tranmere's way, so makes sense for him to move home. Good move all round I think.

Bentley seems a bit of a left field appointment.

By the sounds of it, adkins was our first choice, but he turned it down, Mellon was in the frame but think we were waiting on him being sacked by Shrewsbury so we turned to Bentley. Lives 2 miles away from Prenton park so makes sense.

So tramere may be a a better supported club than morecambe but seems odd a manager dropping down from l2 to non league. I think bentley must be one of only a dozen managers thats been at a football league club more than 4 year

You've got it all wrong. We sack the first one, our second manager of the season walks out on us!

That Sam Elliott knows very little. He goes off the word of random people on Twitter for his "sources".

The man's an utter bellend.

Big Sam will be available soon, if anyone's interested. Can see him doing well at Braintree.

Morecambe have (had) literally 0 resources. One of the worst supported sides in the league, punching some would say. Tranmere on the other hand have the capability of sustaining League One football. Absolute no brainer imo.

Fair point but they keep on going and have managed to stay in league unlike framers. It's like Eddie Howe or Sean such going to newcastle. Yeah bigger club than burnley or Bournemouth and with more resources etc but they still 1 division lower and ain't guaranteed to get promoted back to there so called level (like tramere)

Haven't Morecambe got new Brazilian owner, potentially improving their finances ? It's unclear if there was any contact with Bentley from Rovers, but if there was an offer a little surprised he didn't go for it.

From a Tranmere perspective, I'm concerned that there are unrealistic expectations about who the next manager will be and there will be disappointment whoever is chosen. There are a lot worse managers than Jim Bentley out there.
