Back to league fixtures after majority of clubs involved in mid-week Caraboa Cup matches.
Stand out games this weekend would appear to be Derby v Barnsley & Sheff Wed v Charlton although Bristol R v Oxford looks to be a tasty local fixture.
But as usual at this early part of season there is no firm form guide and some results might be unexpected.

Ipswich v MK Dons should be a good game too - Ipswich to push on I suspect.
And Plymouth v Peterborough will give Posh credentials more of a test - Plymouth are generally strong at Home Park.

I'm looking forward to our game against champions-elect Exeter as well... :)

We had a good record over FGR when Cooper was in charge so let's hope that continues without him!

Should be a player or two in by the weekend, Scully is now back from illness, Vernam and Mandroui are back in training as well. Jackson went off injured (surprise, surprise) in the first half last night but apparently is only a dead leg.

Accrington away.
I have to say this - I hope we get dicked. Royally.
That way he will get sacked after the game, if he has not gone before.
Players have stopped playing for him now, body language tells you it all. They want him gone.
Barnsley fans, you dodged a bullet by turning him down. He has lost the plot.
Prediction - 3-0 defeat. 2-0 after 15 minutes.

Fleetwood at home. We have a horrid run of games after this one against all the big boys, so this game feels like a 6 pointer already.

Charlton have started brightly under Ben Garner so will be a tough one. Gregory is back which is a bonus and hopefully enough for us to make it 7 from 9

Exeter at home.

Beat them in the cup last year from a dubious goal that shouldn't have been given. We didn't really get out of second gear that day but I expect this game to be completely different.

Exeter will be on a high after their result last night but I always fancy us to beat any team at home so going for a 2-1 win.

Wycombe away for us.

Apart from our 7-0 win away against them in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy back in 2008, we’ve never beaten Wycombe away. Played them 27 times in the league and only won 2 of them. Definition of a bogey team for us.

We’ve been really unlucky to have just the one point from six so far. We were the better team in both games but we just couldn’t find the net. The referee ruined our game on Saturday with a disgraceful red card decision (won the appeal in the end).

Although I think odds of 3/1 against us is very brave from the bookies, I can’t see us picking up anything as per from Adams Park.

Wycombe 2-0 Salop

Are you still playing more like the style you did under Appleton? If you are it should be a good game with two sides playing some lovely triangles.

A ‘proper’ L1 test for us this weekend in Oxford, although we are hit with injuries and lacking numbers across the pitch.

FGR came up with us and it too early to tell for either side on this division, Burton we’re just an embarrassment - but Oxford is a more realistic test of where we are/need to be at this point in the window.

Expecting a loss though tbh

Will look more in depth at our fixture after the cup game is out of the way, tough test, one you'd hope we'd relish under DC and hopefully Saturday's result doesn't put off our fans and we get another decent home crowd which should see 11-12k in the ground overall.

Play like we did against Exeter we will get smashed but in fairness we've generally bounced back hard after a shitter under the current regime, a lot will depend on who is fit, will we have any strikers signed in time or if the return of Wilson is imminent in how we perform I imagine.

Looks possible we may sign a striker in time which would help massively as a second year scholar up front (who himself is a midfielder) is not ideal.

Hopefully some more minutes into the likes of Walker, Pett, Conlon and Holden tonight will be a boost and surely Massey is ready now?

As mentioned though it does feel like we are writing off August to get players up to speed and the right signings in the door even if it takes us to deadline day.

Hopefully we can avenge the dodgy result from the cup game last year, I would have loved a trip to the other SJP!

Be interesting to see what team is picked, we did ok without Jevani Brown and Josh Key last night. The likes of Jay and Kite are scrapping for places and not wanting to give them up. Also not sure if Jamal Blackman will be fit again for this one.

Clearly it won't be as easy as last night or Saturday, but I still fancy three points, will be a hot one though

Having scored 3 goals in both away games so far and Cheltenham shipping 7. We all know Cheltenham will keep a clean sheet. We've got a terrible record at Cheltenham

We saw two MA styles - the one two season ago where we dicked you in the FA Cup but last season was dull, crab football.

Either way, it is still a passing game but not as risk taking as MA's style.

Not sure what to expect from Shrews on Sat but Cotterill is a proven manager at this level, and I’d expect a well-drilled and competitive side from him.

We got shown up last weekend v a strong Bolton side, I’d hope for something of a reaction on Saturday. It remains to be seen whether any of the dev squad players rotated into the team for yesterday’s Carabao Cup victory have forced themselves into consideration for the weekend - I’m guessing not but you never know.

I was about to say all draws, but remembered we won 1-0 last season didn't we.

I forgot about our decent record against Pompey - I won't hold my breath that it'll continue this week though

Was one of our best players over the 2 games tbh. Don’t even remember him getting injured in the Burton game but obviously picked something up.

It was a big gamble from Barton signing Rotisier & Gibbons - both great players but injury prone. Both of them already out injured..

Think you’ll be fine. We’re pretty ropey at the back still and whilst we’re playing some better football, it mostly falls apart any time we’re near the box so while we might nick one goal, it won’t be enough.

FGR had some excellent results v Lincoln pre-Cowley but as soon as he took charge FGR never won a game. He had the measure of Mark Cooper, which drove Coops mad. :sna:
This season both clubs are under different managers so perhaps not a automatic home win for Lincoln.
Having said that I will be plumping for a Lincoln win on Oakie's prediction site.

MK Dons at home. Big test for us. I feel like we are the 2 best 'footballing sides', i.e. passing it around a lot! However, both sides seem to be struggling for goals. A prime example being last night, albeit with our reserves having 17 odd shots and not scoring. 18 shots against Bolton and only scoring one. 22 against FGR and scoring 2. Really think we need to be more ruthless if we're ever going to get out of this league - pretty football counts for nothing at the end of the day. It's all about putting the ball in the net!

What an odd thing to feel 2 games into a season when you haven’t seen at least 21 of the other sides.

I mean on the eye, not that we're any good - we just both make a lot of passes and look to dominate possession.

Last season we were the top 2 for possession, and this season so far too.

You might be right on that in terms of possession. Personally I think dominating possession is utterly worthless if you don’t have an end product. Sometimes that style can be very slow and dull to watch also.

Don’t think last season there was more than a handful of games we had more of the ball but were just able to pick teams off on the counter.
