Alfreton 2-2 Solihull Moors (Smith 23, Bradley (p) 75, Knights 45, Armson 90)

Well I am lost for words on how we didn't win Today. It was our best Performance by quite a way for at least 18 months. All those raving about our boxing day performance have a point. We look totally transformed! Nicky has since said some stern words were said before the Tamworth and it safe to say that whatever he said had the desired effect!!

First off let me say that Solihull were very impressive and we be promoted IMO. Its a good sign when you are absolutely pummelled for two halves of football but managed to draw each one 1-1 and come out with a very fortunate draw.

On another day we would have beat Solihull by 4 or 5. Sam Smith was fantastic and had his best game in an Alfreton shirt. Tom Allan and Niall Heaton also shone brightly. While Solihull couldn't cope with the pace and directness of Meikle and the Immense Sam Jones.

We started on the front foot from the off and never really took our foot off the pedal. Sam Jones saw a shot cannon off the post on 15 while Smith saw his follow up saved and Bradleys shot was then cleared away superbly by a Solihull Defender. We then deservedly took the lead on 23 after a great industrious run by Jones down the left was turned home by Sam Smith after he reacted quickest after Dan Bradley saw his shot saved by the keeper.

Further shots from Jones and Bradley were saved before Moors broke with pace from Nothing and Dean poked it through to Knights he fired past Duke to make it 1-1.

It was end to end in the second half with both sides going for a winner. Smith had a shot cleared off the line before our pressure was finally rewarded on 75 when Jones was sent sprawling by Nottingham for an absolute stone wall penalty.
Bradley smashed home to make it 2-1. Minutes late Allan crashed an volley against the post. Before the same man fired a quality across the face which somehow nobody in an Alfreton or Solihull shirt turned home!

Then Heartbreak in the 90th as Moors launched a rare attack and after Knights found Armason he beat Duke at the 3rd attempt after his first two attempts came back off the bar to break Reds Hearts

Its amazing what a win and a bit of confidence can do though. The improvements from last Saturdays limp home defeat to Bradford PA is stark. Replicate todays performance and we will be absolute fine.
Where are your highlights? I want to see our equaliser again :bg:

Sorry, been away for a while. We've made 4 signings, all look pretty crap. All have no experience at this level or very little. At least we didn't sign Clayton mc Donald from Worcester because he is shite! Good win at Harrogate, still think Jansen needs to go. Hope we can get something out of our local rivals Fylde. Always seem to do well against them, hoping for a repeat of last years away game!

Signings are Jordan connerton from kendal, Vinny bailey from an AMERICAN COLLEGES SIDE:ffs:, Raul correia from almada (not sure if it is the correct Raul correia, on our website it only says he is studying at uni in the UK) and Tom field from Airbus.

I think Airbus were glad to get rid of Tom Field, because he was a troublemaker and on a big wedge. We binned him off during our first season at Step 4. Hits a good free kick iirc.

Ref was bad today, disallowed a goal for nothing.
James Dean blazed a penny over the bar, could tell he would as soon as he stepped up, man out of form desperate for a goal, at any level it doesn't normally end up good!:sad::sad:

Nuneaton 0-1 Moors :woo:
We've now done the double over Fylde and Nuneaton. It's down to our solid defence and goalkeeper, who were all sensational again. 1 point clear at the top and with games in hand on teams below.
Darksithlord - Highlights are finally posted :2thumb:

Looked a bit dodgy early on as Lowestoft lead and then had a 2nd disallowed but in the end won 4-1. Apparently the corner leading to our 2nd wasn't and it was a soft pen for the 3rd but relatively comfortable. Another decent turnout (1499- boosted by 109 visitors) although we're running short of programmes now. Twice in a row I've had the last one!
Makes the away game there more bizarre. We'd be top tonight had we prepared properly for that

Disappointed Deano missed that pen. We need every point we can get over Fylde, even allowing for games in hand.

Alfreton 1-0 Tamworth (Bradley 89)

Absolutely abysmal game. Nothing happened at all really. Defence certainly defeated offence with neither side having enough about them to break each other down on the day until the only bit of Quality from Robertson put it on a plate for Bradley in the final minute.

The closest Tamworth came to a goal ws when Matt Duke decided to drop a simple cross at the feet of Tamworth player manager Andy Morrell who was adjudged to foul the keeper. Very harsh on Morrelll and a late Xmas pressie for us. The other other thing that happened in the first half was Meikle latching on to a hopeful punt forward but when he got one on one with the keeper he lost his balance and ended up on his bottom!

That was it 0-0 at HT. The second half was even worse until Jordan Robertson did superbly well to battle his way to the byline and he put in the only quality cross of the afternoon and there was Captain Dan Bradley to steer home to give us all 3 points.

Massive goal too as it was the difference between 18th and 13th in the table. 3 Unbeaten now and 3 wins against Tamworth this season. Also our first clean sheet since September 12th.

Another important game next week at Brackley.

He's desperate for a goal, out of form since last season, he hasn't scored this season. Skied it then had a goal disallowed for your absolutely nothing but the ref said it was a 'foul on the keeper'. Assist was a Roscoe overhead! I'm sure your familiar with that scenario!;) seems like he's been practicing them, he's done it a few times when he's been defending, but this time it will be to keep us up, never mind the play off semi!

Forgot there was a North thread.

Not tinpot but after the Trinity/Boston game last week, Greene said something along the lines of Trinity setting up like they were scared.

Housham's response live on a BBC Radio Lincs Show this week was to reply, "...the only thing scary about going to Boston is making sure you come out of it with the same amount of fingers you went in with".

Just behave!
Looks like we won't have to worry about him doing that in May this year though. You've got a lot of catching up to do

We won't be doing any catching up with that moron in charge. If anywhere, we'll be going down!

Nah, there's plenty of sides worse than you. Corby, FCUM, Telford (though they played well against us), Brackley. Gloucester normally struggle to stay afloat. Stockport capitulated badly at our place

We'll be back in mid table soon when the other teams have played their games in hand, we've been pretty awful for a while now despite actually having good players (in my opinion anyway) we were at our best playing 4-4-2 but the lack of goals led to lack of form which lead to Young changing formation and signing crap players which lead to more than just bad form.

I still think we can get in the play offs but it will be one big task now, we're relying on Young finding 2 new strikers when Margetts and Brewster go back, getting Baggie back to his best and sorting the defence out.

Seems to me your fans think exactly the same as us! On Facebook, the posts that some stockport fans put sound like they're talking about us!!

We drew against Corby, thrashed FC 3-0, beat brackley 1-0 and we haven't played Telford and Gloucester yet, we've done the double against stockport for the second season in a row but that is the only good thing from this season!!

This is Fantastic News. We have beat off competition from Barrow to single the excellent Lindon Meikle till the end of the 2016/17 season

Sorry Barrow Fans

CONTRACT REWARD FOR LINDON MEIKLE
Wednesday Jan 6, 2016

WITH REDS TO END OF 2016/17 SEASON

Alfreton Town have signed experienced winger Lindon Meikle on contract to the end of the 2016/17 season.

Meikle, 27, joined the Reds initially on a month's non contract basis on December 2nd, 2015 following his release by Macclesfield Town, and the contract is reward for his excellent displays including hitting the winner in a 2-1 victory at Tamworth on Boxing Day.

The Reds beat competition from Vanarama National League side Barrow for his signature and Reds manager Nicky Law said: "I am delighted to have signed Lindon and really pleased he has committed himself to the club. He has been a big part of our recent mini revival and hope he can continue in the same vein.

"He has fitted in well with the lads and I think it's a very good signing for us. I am also delighted that Wayne (Bradley) has backed the move."

Meikle joined Macclesfield in September 2015 from York City and made seven appearances for the Silkmen.

The hard working winger has a National League winners' medal with Mansfield Town for whom he made over 100 appearances during his time with them in both the Conference and League Two.

His performances during his first season with Mansfield earned him three England C caps in the 2011/12 campaign.

Lindon started his career at Eastwood Town, where he scored 22 goals in 87 appearances.

He joined York in July 2014 and added twenty-eight games to his tally without scoring

I don't know how you managed that. He's clearly too good for this league.

Wants to stay local, clearly. Can understand him not wanting to live in the middle of nowhere.
