I may miss you too Tinpot if there are no other arrogant posters for me to hate on next season!

Oxford have been the true best team in this league and a lot of people recognise that, yes Northampton ran away with it but they are quite anti football and are really just an unfashionable plucky L2 team who had the most luck in games and they'll probably come back down here in 1 or 2 years whereas Oxford on the other hand have the potential to keep going forward!

Haha. Shit wum is shit.

Well done to Oxford and Bristol Rovers, didn't think Rovers had it in them after we beat them 2-0 in August and Chesham beat them in the cup, but since the new year they have been superb.

We're a strange team, had a poor start last season too. In fact if you think back to some of the results earlier this season, losing at home to Newport and Stevenage, drawing with a poor Notts County etc. etc. we could have challenged Northampton if we'd been more consistent in the early part of the season. Just emphasises how great we've been since New Year as you say.

But who cares, I am bloody delighted.

P.S. Those saying Oxford have been the 'true' best team in the league are mental.

Oxford have been great, but their home form in the second half of the season meant promotion was still up in the air until yesterday. If they had been in Accrington's shoes yesterday they wouldn't be saying they were the best in the league. Despite being incredible away from home, Northampton have the same record as them too.

Don't get me wrong, Oxford are a great side. They were very good against us in both games. But the league table doesn't lie after 46 games, and Northampton ran away with it.

Add in the fact we took 6 points off Oxford without conceding a goal, and there's only one team in the running.

Congrats to Rovers, hope we don't get you in the heat like the first game of this year, got bloody sunstroke on that terrace!

I agree with all of this, we're very good, Northampton have been special, I think though it was just Appleton having a little dig back at Wilder who has made a few sly remarks over the course of the season

Still, we're all up, and I hope we all stay up next season, no point getting wrapped up in silly comments

I'd like to hear or read these sly remarks? Answers on a postcard (or if you want to post below thats fine) I only know of responses to Curle and Jones.

This whole Oxford thing ever since Wilder joined is quite enjoyable. It's how rivalries start (as per Peterborough in the 60's) Be interesting to see in another 50 years whether the rivalry continues. The closeness of the two clubs helps as well.

Well, what a short but very fun stay it's been. Was hoping for play offs at best this season but anything is possible with this squad and DC, what a great manager. Can't believe yesterday, had to do it the hard way in true Rovers fashion but what a way to do it! Commiserations to Stanley, best of luck in the playoffs

He mentioned a couple of times about certain teams having to go up this year or being in the shit, obviously meaning us going shit or bust, which we didn't. He said about being touted Bowery and turning him down, which is probably true, but it's just needless and clearly shows he has a chip on his shoulder about his time here

There are more too, i'm on my phone so can't find them, but will when i'm home if necessary

Allow me to save you 50 years of waiting: no.

Christ, Leyton Orient relegated us from the football league and we took it really badly and the animosity still only lasted 90 minutes of football. What have Northampton done? Finished above us whilst we got promoted? I still applaud your manager when he comes back to Oxford for Christ's sake.

I don't see anything at all in Northampton. I don't think a single Ox fan thought of you lot yesterday until we saw how much fury Appleton had caused.

Wow! I have a sore head and throat. What a amazing night Gloucester Road was buzzing and police did a fantastic job closing the road of so the fans could gather outside the Vic.

DC is officially a absolute club legend! He has been fantastic since we were relegated to the conference. I am positive that with him at the helm and the backing of the new owners and chairman we can keep moving forward. DC's passion is fantastic but his management and tactical awareness grows by the week, he is destined to go a long way in the game.

All the players have been fantastic again this season but I feel a few deserve special praise.
Lee Brown - could not of been a more fitting player to score the winner, he was easily good enough to go to league 1 two years ago after relegation but stuck with us and always gives his all.
Mark Mcrystal and Lee Mansell are really professional characters and have lead the team over the last two seasons with their experience.
Matty Taylor - his goals have been a major factor for us getting back to league 1 even if he misses a few like yesterday let's hope he is in a rovers shirt next season.
Tom Lockyer - outstanding young player who plays with a old head on young shoulders. Going to go a long way!
Chris Lines - He's one of our own!

Well done to all players and staff for all your hard work making gas-heads proud of our club again!

RIP BEN know you would have loved yesterday.

Looking at Northampton's forum and the fake Appleton Twitter they've set up it appears it's not just the fan above hoping to start a rivalry with Oxford

Bit weird imo

Still hurting from yesterday but have others said, we simply wern't good enough, especially for the first hour. They came for a draw and got exactly what they wanted.

Really don't fancy us in the playoff's but who knows, this League has been crazy this season (as usual) .

Well done to Oxford & Bristol , I just hope we can can join you and leave those morons from Stevenage behind !

I would love to see a small club like yourselves to win the play offs so hopefully you can pick yourselves up and do it. :2thumb:

What a day Saturday was, I'm still only about 20% functional today. Superb performance to cap off an incredible season. I won't wax lyrical about the team and management for 300 words, because I don't think anyone else other than Ox fans would care; but believe me I could write 3000.

Re: Appleton's comments. Buchanan's ones the BBC have quoted today are spot on. It is disrespectful and a little silly. We might have played more games and we may be capable of playing prettier football at times, but they've been the most effective team over 46 games and that's no fluke. Happy for Wilder too - did a good job with us overall.

I disagree about it being disrespectful.

Appleton said that Oxford were the best footballing side in the league. A statement already made by Wilder in February.

Compare that to Wilder's talking about being "punted" Bowery but his wages are too high, that some teams just down the road in the league need to get promoted this season.

Appletons is a positive statement whereas Wilder always feels the need to be negative. The fact it seems to have grabbed the headlines is because of the way they have reacted on their bus...

I would be interested to know what other teams in this league are thinking?

Couldnt care less about this. We won the league, therefore we were the best team in the league. Oxford had a great season as well and deservedly got promoted, thats the end of it basically.

There's absolutely no doubt Northampton are the best team in the division, their current unbeaten streak emphasises their superiority. They cruised to promotion and also to the title, playing decent, effective football in the process. From our games at Brunton Park, there wasn't an awful lot between their's and Oxford's playing style.

The club have tweeted that Charlton have officially approached us for Wilder and Knill. They have been given permission to talk to Charlton, they havnt wasted any time doing that!

Charlton are a big club with a good fan base but cant help feel with their mental owners this would end badly. Would be gutted to see him go but at the same time could only thank him for what he has done for us this season. Would go with no hard feelings, only good will from our fans.

He's been given permission to speak with clubs before and turned them down hasn't he? Or at least been favourite for about 100 jobs since the winter...

No official approach has been made from other clubs that has been announced. Been favourite for every job going though as you mentioned.

I think going to manage Charlton in their current state would be a very bad move indeed.
